Li Yanchen was suddenly shy. He whispered into her ear, “Xia MO and the rest are all here.”
Lin Wan didn’t let go. “So? We aren’t doing anything wrong.”
“Ooh, Wanwan, you’re good!” Xia MO teased.
Xia Tianlin also chimed in. “It’s no wonder Brother Li is so anxious to keep in shape.”
Lin Wan let go of Li Yanchen. “Sister Xia, control your husband. There are others here.”
Xia MO pulled Xiao Tianlin to the side. “You have such a big mouth! There’re children right next to you. What if they hear you?”
“You’re right, honey.” Xia Tianlin fell silent.
After Huo Meijun and Su Wei finished their dinner, they took Tutu and went home. Li Zekai played hide-and -go-seek with Jian Jia.
After a while, Luo Xi called Jian Jia. “We should go home now.”
Jian Jia obediently walked to his father’s side. “Jiejie, I have to go now.”
The corners of Li Zekai’s lips drooped down in sadness. “When can we play together again?
Jian Jia also looked dejected. He looked up at Luo Xi. “Daddy, am I going back to the orphanage tomorrow?”
Luo Xi crouched down on the ground. He held Jian Jia comfortingly. “Just for a few more days until I can take you home with me. After that, you can see Jiejie more often. ”
Jian Jia knew he had to be in the orphanage until Luo Xi turned 30. He didn’t know how long that would be. However, he knew it would be soon, and that was enough for him.
Jian Jia smiled brightly. “Great!” He turned to Li Zekai. “I’ll go back now, Jiejie. We’ll meet again.”
Li Zekai said goodbye to his friend. Luo Xi also said his farewell to Lin Wan and the others.
For the first time, Li Yanchen walked Luo Xi to his car without any reservation and watched him drive away.
Xia MO nudged Lin Wan. “What’s going on between those two?”
Lin Wan “I don’t know.”
After all the guests had left, the children fought among themselves to decide who would take a shower first. They then went to bed. Lin Wan also made her way to the bedroom.
The next morning, Li Zexin woke up early in the morning and went back to his school. He watched his brothers enviously. He didn’t like it that they got to sleep while he had to rush off. The others woke up a little later.
After staying home for three days, Li Zexuan felt energized to return to school. The moment he reached Yun Xi High School, he instinctively made his way to Xingzhi Tower.
He had a little furry pendant in his hands that he had brought from home. He wanted to give it to Xie Wanyu.
Li Zexuan was unaware that Xie Wanyu had stopped visiting the Xingzhi Tower after the library incident. He hadn’t expected to see Lu Wenqian there.
Lu Wenqian had returned to school early and gone to the Xingzhi Tower just to see if anyone was there. To her delight, she found Li Zexuan near the wisteria flower rack. Lu Wenqian knew that this place was where Xie Wanyu and Li Zexuan usually met. She didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad about it.
Li Zexuan was unhappy to see Lu Wenqian here of all places. He tried to cover his face so she wouldn’t recognize him, but it was too late.
“Are you waiting for Xie Wanyu?” asked Lu Wenqian as she sat beside him and opened her physics book.
Li Zexuan ignored her. That annoyed Lu Wenqian even more.
Her brother had found out all about Xie Wanyu and her family. “Do you think Xie Wanyu is pure of heart like you said? Let me tell you. She is not as innocent as you think she is. Her mother was a corrupt lawyer who distorted the truth for her clients for money. Somebody decided to retaliate against her. Xia Wanyu’s father beat up that person and was taken to jail.”
Lu Wenqian had been in disbelief when her brother told her about Xie Wanyu’s background. At first, she believed Xie Wanyu wasn’t someone very significant, as she kept to herself and didn’t mingle around with others. However, Lu Wenqian figured that nobody dared approach Xie Wanyu because of her background. Now it made sense why she was always alone.
Lu Wenqian wondered how someone like her with a problematic family background was allowed in Yun Xi High School. Her brother was certain that the information he had received was accurate.
Xie Wanyu was a top student. It was unlikely that she would have no friends. However, everything made sense now. Who would want to be friends with a criminal’s daughter?
Lu Wenqian knew that Li Zexuan didn’t believe her. She tried her best to prove it. “That girl, Luan Rongrong, is not any better. Her father isn’t a good person, either. Her mother was smart enough to remarry a rich man. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be here in this school.”
“If Xie Wanyu didn’t have good grades, she wouldn’t be here,” said Lu Wenqian. “I need to ask the principal about their selection process. Do they only look at grades? Do they ignore the moral standing of a person when they allow them into the school? What if these people turn out to be criminals just like their parents and hurt other students?”
Li Zexuan hadn’t said a word till now. He put down his book. “Lu Wenqian, parents and children are not the same. Our parents are different from us. In my eyes, no one is as good and kind as Xie Wanyu.”
Lu Wenqian laughed. “How long have you known her? Xie Wanyu just transferred to this school recently. You just met her a few times, and you think she is the best thing that ever happened to you. What a joke! Just because she rejected you, you call her good and pure? Girls like her love playing hard to get.”
Li Zexuan was stunned. How could she say something like that? He didn’t bother to continue the conversation. He just got up and walked toward his dormitory.
However, Lu Wenqian blocked his way. “Xuanxuan, Xie Wanyu is not good for you,” she said. “You are a celebrity. You should be careful of the kind of people you befriend.”
Li Zexuan stopped in his tracks. “I can choose who I want to be friends with. Who are you to criticize my choices?”
“You still think she is good and kind, don’t you? She is deceiving you! Don’t tell me you like her… She is the daughter of a criminal. You know what our classmates will think of her when they find out about her family?” Lu Wenqian’s words concealed a threat.
Li Zexuan frowned. “Wanyu hasn’t offended anyone. You don’t own this school. If anyone spreads rumors about her family background, I will assume you are behind it. Just try it. The consequences won’t be pretty.”
Li Zexuan returned to his dormitory.
“Alright! Just wait and see!” shouted Lu Wenqian at the boy’s receding form.
That night, she posted about Xie Wanyu’s identity on the school forum. When the parents saw it, they became anxious. Everyone dropped their opinions in the comment section.
How could their children feel safe with someone like that in school?
The school administration and the Student Recruitment Office got a lot of calls and messages from the parents. They asked for an explanation on the matter.
Xie Wanyu didn’t own a phone. So, she was unaware of the post on the school forum. She went straight to her dorm after her classes ended.
Lu Wenqian only wanted to use the pressure of the public to get Xie Wanyu expelled from the school. She didn’t want Li Zexuan to get affected by the news. Thus, she hadn’t mentioned Li Zexuan in her post at all.
However, someone had posted a picture of Li Zexuan and Xie Wanyu from the library. Their heads were close together. The photo immediately created an uproar.
The students had seen the news on their phones. But, the people actually involved in the scandal were unaware of the whole thing..
