Ch. 28 Marriage Tree
At morning, as soon as Jiang Juan opened his eyes, he realized that the situation was not quite right. This doesn’t seem to be the room he usually slept in, but rather Xie Jingxian’s room.
He turned his head, and when he saw the familiar table and chairs placed against the wall, he sat up straight immediately.
This was really the room where Xie Jingxian slept, then, why is he here?
Jiang Juan pressed his forehead as the memories of last night’s drunkenness came flooding in. Looking at them, Jiang Juan was very embarrassed.
Next time he really can’t drink so much. After drinking he doesn’t communicate with anyone during the whole time, making his behavior very strange. Not only that, but he also took up the bed of his classmate who was kind enough to take him in, which was really too much.
Jiang Juan glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside, and saw that the hour hand was pointing to eight o’clock.
It was already so late, what about Xie Jingxian? Why didn’t he wake him up to go to school.
Was he… angry?
Jiang Juan put on his slippers and ran out. As soon as he opened the door, he saw that the door of the room next to his also opened. Xie Jingxian walked out and the two looked at each other. The two of them had the same messy hair, and the same sleepy eyes.
After looking at each other for a moment, Jiang Juan was the first to break the silence, “Morning?”
Xie Jingxian nodded and turned around to wash up. Jiang Juan went back to his room and changed his clothes that still smelled of alcohol, then went to Xie Jingxian’s room to clean up his bed that also smelled of alcohol.
Xie Jingxian was washing in the bathroom, and he could hear the rustling sound from Jiang Juan’s side. He looked at himself in the mirror, frowning slightly.
He has been self-disciplined for so many years, no matter how late he sleeps, he can always get up on time the next day, but today was the first time he woke up so late. Was it because of the relaxation of the mind, that he slept till now?
The sound in the room continued, although it was subtle, it still felt very lively.
Even though it was the first time for him to be late for class, Xie Jingxian was not at all in a hurry, but instead felt that it was a wonderful feeling. He was paying attention to the movement on Jiang Juan’s side, and after a while, he saw Jiang Juan stick his head out of the room and say, “Xie Jingxian, your quilt smells of alcohol, throw it away, I’ll buy a new one for you, even the bed.”
Xie Jingxian washed his face with water and replied, “No need, just wash it.” He wiped his face and walked into the room, only to see the bed in a mess, which was a result of it being tossed by Jiang Juan.
Facing Xie Jingxian’s gaze, Jiang Juan was a little embarrassed, “I’ll wash it for you.”
Xie Jingxian shook his head, took the quilt and sheets into his arms, and said to Jiang Juan, “Go wash up.”
Being late was a foregone conclusion, so the two of them were not so anxious. Jiang Juan helped Xie Jingxian to wash the sheets and covers, and also washed the dirty clothes by the way.
Finally after cleaning everything up the two got out of the house to go to school, even then they were still in the mood to go to the food stall for breakfast.
Jiang Juan felt a little guilty for causing Xie Jingxian to be late, but thinking that this was the first time Xie Jingxian was late in his student life, he couldn’t help but want to laugh. And he really laughed, causing Xie Jingxian to pull him aside to prevent him from walking onto the road, where cars came and went.
Jiang Juan then asked to Xie Jingxian in an interview type of way, “Classmate Xie, so, how are you feeling now?”
Xie Jingxian said lightly, “Those who are close to the ink are dyed black.” [1]
Jiang Juan laughed. By now he could tell whether Xie Jingxian was really angry or not by his eyes and tone. He knew that Xie Jingxian was not angry, but instead was in a good mood.
Jiang Juan glanced at the time, it was already nine o’clock, and was already too late, so why don’t you do things that have never been done before.
For example, instead of going through the main entrance, go to ***[2]
Jiang Juan said that he wanted to take Xie Jingxian, a good student, to experience the fun of bunking school, so that he should not leave any regrets during his student days. In fact, this was something he had always wanted to do but never did.
In the world he originally lived in, he was Young Master Jiang who was followed by thousands of people. In this world, although he was also Young Master Jiang, everyone knew what he was like.
——Fighting, not studying well, poor grades, and not getting along with good students anyway.
Jiang Juan was now very grateful to the original owner for his status as a learning scum and school bully that he had established over the years.
As a traverser who was familiar with the original book, Jiang Juan knew that there was a crooked-necked willow tree outside the periphery of Jincheng High School. It was far from the main entrance of the school and does not come under the inspection of the guard room. It was the easiest and safest way to enter the school from there.
But safe doesn’t mean that it’s not exciting.
Jiang Juan led Xie Jingxian to the tree with the crooked neck, and found that there were many red cloth strips wrapped around the tree, which looked like the marriage tree worshipped by the hero and heroine in the TV series.
A Marriage tree?
Jiang Juan suddenly remembered that since this crooked-neck willow tree was in a good location, many boys and girls in the school chose to skip classes from here to go out on dates.
This willow tree has witnessed many couple oaths, and it is called the marriage tree by the students. Some couples even come here to climb the marriage tree, praying for a long-lasting love.
Under the tree, Jiang Juan and Xie Jingxian raised their heads slightly, with the blowing wind, the red cloth strips tied to the tree swayed along with the willow branches, looking very beautiful.
As a student of this school, Xie Jingxian naturally knew the saying of the marriage tree. He just didn’t expect Jiang Juan to bring him here.
Was it intentional or unintentional?
Jiang Juan was planning to teach about the origin of the marriage tree to Xie Jingxian, a scholar who “doesn’t hear things outside the window and only read the books of sages” [3], but when he turned his head, he saw Xie Jingxian looking at him, with a strange expression on his face.
Jiang Juan tilted his head: ?
Before Jiang Juan could discern the different emotions in Xie Jingxian’s eyes, Xie Jingxian had already withdrawn his gaze, stepped on the tree trunk first, and climbed up. Seeing him, Jiang Juan also quickly followed.
Seeing Xie Jingxian smoothly jumping off the wall, Jiang Juan was a little puzzled, was this really his first time?
But Xie Jingxian had already gone down, and was standing under the wall waiting for him, so he could no longer delay. Jiang Juan stepped on the wall with one leg and was about to go down. At this moment, a loud shout came from not far away, “Which class are you from, come down!”
The man’s voice was really loud, and because he was unprepared, Jiang Juan was taken aback, as he slipped his feet, and fell straight down.
Xie Jingxian was standing under the wall, and it was too late to hide, so he could only reach out to catch him.
With a slightly panicked look on the boy’s face, he fell into his arms, and Xie Jingxian could smell the unique fresh smell on Jiang Juan’s body.
Although Jiang Juan was shorter than Xie Jingxian, he was also an adult who was about to come of age. In addition to the impact of the fall, Xie Jingxian took two steps back, but he still couldn’t firmly hold him, and the two fell to the ground together.
Xie Jingxian was under Jiang Juan. According to common sense, Jiang Juan should have been unharmed. Unfortunately, the **** [4] “symbiosis system” was at work. Jiang Juan only felt his head buzzing and then his back started hurting a lot. Sure enough, Xie Jingxian was injured.
Jiang Juan hissed and climbed up from Xie Jingxian with help of his arms. One of his hands pressed against Xie Jingxian’s head, only to realize that he was holding something in his hand.
It was he who accidentally ripped off a long red cloth above his head when he fell. At this time, one end of the red cloth was in his hand, and the other end fell on Xie Jingxian’s face, covering his eyes.
Xie Jingxian raised his hand and grabbed it, holding the other end of the red cloth in his hand, and Jiang Juan also raised his arm with the intent of pulling it.
The two looked at each other, both slightly startled.
Jiang Juan smiled bitterly and said, “That’s good, now I don’t know which of my dear brothers’ marriage was ruined.”
He put away the red cloth strip, stood up, and pulled Xie Jingxian up. When he looked up again, he saw the gloomy face of the dean in front of him.
Seeing Jiang Juan, the dean’s nose was almost crooked, “It’s you again!”
Jiang Juan felt that the use of this word ‘again’ was very subtle.
The dean scolded Jiang Juan till his spit was flowing everywhere, and when he turned to Xie Jingxian, his voice was a little bit less cold. He asked Xie Jingxian, “Why are you also late?” Although his tone was still cold, in comparison with Jiang Juan, it could already be called a pleasant face.
Xie Jingxian didn’t make any excuses, only said that he got up late.
Even after that the dean’s face was still cold, and after a while, he said, “Go back and write a thousand-word review and give it to me.”
Xie Jingxian ssai, “Okay.”
Jiang Juan also said from the side, “Thank you sir, then we will go back first.”
The dean felt that the smile on Jiang Juan’s face was very dazzling. What he hated most were students who didn’t study well, especially Jiang Juan, who made trouble everywhere by relying on his family’s power, and still wouldn’t get punished.
Although Jiang Juan has been a lot more honest since the beginning of this semester, the bad impression Jiang Juan left on him in his first year of high school cannot be eliminated in such a short period of time.
The dean said with a cold face, “You also write a review for me. Next Monday, at the flag-raising ceremony, go up and read the review.”
Looking at the angry back of the dean, Jiang Juan turned his head to Xie Jingxian and said, “I’m sorry for dragging you down. I’ll write this review for you. As for the flag-raising ceremony, I can’t help you go up and read it.”
Xie Jingxian started walking towards the teaching building as he replied, “No need.”
Jiang Juan followed after him, “You have no experience, I will help you write.”
Xie Jingxian said, “I wrote it before.”
Before? When did Xie Jingxian write a review? Jiang Juan recalled, but he didn’t remember such a scene to be there. Whether it was in the book or after he transmigrated here, there was never any incident where Xie Jingxian had to write a review.
Jiang Juan thought hard, and finally remembered it before stepping into the teaching building.
On the day of the National Day holiday, they fought with the senior students in the food stall. At that time they were caught by the head teacher. The Dean also called Ren Tao for this and was very furious.
Taking the exam at the beginning of the school year made Jiang Juan forget that there was still such a thing, not to mention today’s one, he hadn’t written that one yet.
Jiang Juan and Xie Jingxian returned to the classroom. It was just after the class ended. Many people were going in and out, but they didn’t attract too many people’s attention.
It was Xu Rang who noticed Jiang Juan for the first time and asked, “Brother Juan, what are you holding in your hand?”
Jiang Juan rounded up the red rope and threw it at Xu Rang, “You can play with it.”
Xu Rang looked suspicious and asked Jiang Juan again, “Why are you late together Xie Jingxian today?”
Jiang Juan said, “I drank too much yesterday and didn’t get up on time.” He looked at Xu Rang and asked, “You came on time ?”
Xu Rang pouted, “I was late and was even caught by the dean. In the end, I was fined with a thousand words review.”
Jiang Juan then asked again, “Is it finished? Lend it to me to learn from.”
Jiang Juan had just told Xie Jingxian that he will help him write a review, but in fact he had never written it himself. Fortunately, Xu Rang was here. This kid has been with the original owner since he was a child. He didn’t know how many reviews he may have written, must be very experienced.
Hearing what Jiang Juan said, Xu Rang knew that he was also caught by the dean. He was a very loyal brother, enough to show Jiang Juan his own review generously.
Jiang Juan took it and saw the dog crawling handwriting all over it, not able to recognize even a single word written.
Jiang Juan put the review back with a blank face, and thought in his heart, it is better to do it by himself.
