Margarita turned around slowly to face me. I gazed into her lifeless eyes. An involuntary shiver ran up my spine.
“…Margarita-san?” I said.
“…This is the room that leads to the dungeon cells,” announced Margarita, with a detached air, and opened the door to the room behind her.
I wondered what in the world was happening. Why would Margarita guide me to the dungeon cells? I was unconsciously putting myself on guard.
“Please hurry, before we are discovered,” Margarita urged in a low voice.
“Alright,” I said.
I wondered if Margarita on my side. Despite my recent depression, I still felt a pressing urge to find Edward, Yuki, and Makoto, and to make sure they were all right. And so, I did as Margarita told me to, and entered the room quickly.
As I entered the room, Margarita softly shut the door behind us. As she did so, the room went dark. She had said that this room led to the dungeon cells, but there was nothing about this room that made it seem like an entrance to anything. On top of that, there was nothing resembling furniture in this room.
“His Majesty the King’s subordinates should be guarding the dungeon cells at this time. Let us please hurry,” said Margarita, and put her hand on a candlestand attached to the wall. Margarita pulled the candlestick towards her, and a part of the wall slid to the side, and a stairway leading down appeared.
This stairway looked very dark, as well.
“Let us go,” said Margarita. She lead the way, and I followed Margarita down the stairs, step by step.
My eyes adjusted to the darkness, and I was able to observe my surroundings. All around us were walls made up of what I figured was stone. The stairs themselves were probably made of stone, too. My steps clacked and echoed around us. Yet, Margarita’s steps were, indeed, still silent.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
After descending the stairs for a while, we abruptly stepped into an open area. It appeared that we had arrived at the dungeon cells. Where we were, at the bottom of the stairs, there were two guards standing.
Margarita gave these guards a slight bow and continued on. I did the same and gave the guards a slight bow, then followed closely behind Margarita.
After advancing forward a bit further, Margarita stopped where she stood and turned around.
“…Here it is,” Margarita said, and as I looked to where she was gesturing, I saw Edward, Yuki, and Makoto sitting in the middle of a cell.
“Edward-sama! Yuki-sama! Makoto-sama!!” I cried out. I ran over to get closer to the three of them without thinking. It was then that I noticed that I was separated from them by steel bars.
When I called out their names, the three of them became aware of my presence and looked over at me with surprised, wide eyes.
“You did well making it all the way down here,” said Edward, smiling.
“You can take action on your own now, can’t you? You’re making progress,” said Yuki, smiling proudly.
“Welcome to our dungeon,” said Makoto, smiling as he greeted me.
Then, a question mark floated into my thoughts. Why was everyone acting this calm?
“Do you have any injuries? I want to somehow break you all out of here…” I said.
“Don’t worry. Rachel, the King his Majesty has arranged for us to spend our time here comfortably,” Edward said, still smiling.
“Yes. The only thing that has troubled me is that we can’t freely see you, Rachel,” said Yuki.
“Personally, I’m a little dissatisfied about the fact that I can’t continue my research on magical objects,” said Makoto.
Yuki and Makoto didn’t seem worried at all. I wondered what in the world was going on.
I turned around to face Margarita. Unlike her usual lifeless eyes, her eyes were now full of affection.
“Lord Naaotto’s subordinates will not come here at this hour. Please take your time, and don’t worry,” said Margarita.
“O-Ok…” I said. I was being told to not worry, but I was more than worried – I was baffled by the situation.
After pausing for a moment, an explanation finally came to mind. I wondered…
“Is the King his Majesty trying to save us from Lord Naaotto?” I asked, in a low voice. Edward, from the middle of the cell, looked at me, and slowly nodded.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]
