Lucy’s POV*
The Toland family is one of the most prestigious magic families in the Kingdom of Roserial, which is focusing on training magicians. It is a family line that has produced many court magicians and powerful people, many of whom became the chief of the magic division in the past. I always thought that I would take over the Toland family. I was the only child of my father, the current head of the Toland family, and I thought that I would adopt a son-in-law in the future and focus on the survival and development of my family, and I have been educated to do so. It was both my wish and pride.
Until Geese was born six years ago.
Until then, I was preparing to enter the Magic Academy. I was blessed and expected to be the next head of the Toland family. But six months before I entered the school, I found out about my mother’s pregnancy, even though she was told that she wouldn’t be able to have a second child. The people around me who had supported me as the next head of the family began to happily say, “If it’s a boy, the long-awaited next head of the family will finally be born.”
Finally? The long-awaited next head of the family? Then what about me?
Until now, it was obvious that I would become the next head of the family, but was I not truly recognized as the next family head? Has all the effort that I put in to become a suitable head of the family until now gone to waist just because I’m a woman? If I were born a boy, would I have already achieved it?
The only person who noticed my anxiety and comforted my suffering, was my mother, whose pregnancy I couldn’t congratulate from the bottom of my heart. My mother snuggled up to me during her pregnancy without scolding me for not being honestly happy.
“Whether Lucy becomes the next head of the family in the future or goes another way, I am proud of you. You will always be my precious daughter, and the daughter of a wonderfully talented father who is the current chief of the Magic Division of the Kingdom of Roserial. Even if your standing or position changes, your value won’t change at all.”
My mother, who comforted me by saying that, lost her life when I was a 15-year-old freshman at the Magic Academy, in exchange for the birth of my younger brother Geese.
When I received the news, I hurried back to the mansion and what I saw was my relatives and other related people who were excited by the joy of the birth of a boy, and the dead body of my mother laying quietly in the room at the back of the mansion.
I will never forget it for the rest of my life. The day I heard the voices of joy coming from a distance while I held on to my cold mother’s body and cried in a dimly lit room. The voices of joy celebrating the birth of my younger brother Geese who stole my mother and the position of head of the family.
Isabella’s POV*
“Is that why you sold Geese to the magicians, Lucy-neesama?”
“Yes. That’s right, Isabella-chan. This is revenge. It’s revenge against those who were celebrating the birth of Geese with my mother’s death. Besides, if Geese dies, I can take back the position of family head that he stole from me. Then, Isabella-chan’s older brother, Trevor, will come to our house as an adopted son-in-law. My father likes Trevor, so I think he will cherish him as a son instead of the lost Geese. That’s why Isabella-chan should go with peace of mind.”
Hearing that, I looked up from the barrel to see Lucy-neesama had a distorted smile.
When I followed Lucy-neesama, I was brought here with a magic tool that sealed my physical freedom and magic. Despite that, I didn’t feel particularly wary because the other party was Lucy-neesama, and I wore magic tools on both hands and my neck as I was told. . .
I was taken to a fairly large, ruined building that looked like a church or monastery.
There were people wearing deep hoods, people wearing masks, people hiding their eyes with transparent cloth. . . . Anyway, there were people who were hiding their faces. Even if you hide your face, it doesn’t make a difference to me. By the way, their appraisal result is magician. So, this is probably one of the hideouts or workshops of the magician organization.
In the damp mossy basement of the ruins that I was brought to, there were a lot of barrels on top of a magic circle. On the tightly sealed barrels, a bunch of sage and bones were placed in a cross formation, and magic circles and other objects were also written on the surface of the barrels.
. . . . . Maybe it’s not wine inside.
As expected, I didn’t have the courage to look at the contents, so I only chose to use [Lust], but that judgment didn’t seem to be a mistake. I won’t tell you the details of the appraisal results, but I’m vomiting about what the sorcerers are doing.
One of the barrels lined up, an empty barrel that was still unused, was put there by the men who hid their eyes with transparent cloth. I didn’t know my sister-in-law’s purpose, so I asked her, and the answer I got was the previous story.
“Maybe you were procrastinating your marriage to Trevor-niisama not because you didn’t want to get married, but to get Trevor-niisama as the son-in-law after Geese dies?”
“That’s right. At first, there was also an official wait-and-see, right? If Geese doesn’t have magic or magic talent, I’ll be the head of the family, right? But it’s no good. Geese had magical talent.”
I see. Let’s wait and see. To be honest, even if the marriage of my eldest brother was postponed, it’s for the convenience of the parties concerned, so I thought it would be nice if I could marry off my second brother to sister-in-law Marin without worrying about it, but was there such a reason? If Trevor-niisama is adopted as the son-in-law, Daimon-niisama will be the next Duke of Rottenstein, and sister-in-law Marin will be the next duchess. So, as long as the head of the Toland family was not clear, it was impossible to get married anyway.
Someone should have told me. It’s me. It’s about my own brother’s marriage. . .
Well, normally, even if you explain such a thing to a 6-year-old child, they won’t understand. The child feels like it’s outside the mosquito net. It was the same in my previous life.
Well, I understand Lucy-neesama’s situation. So I don’t need to keep quiet in the barrel anymore, and I have no obligation to be used as a material for magic.
“Lucy-neesama, I understand your resentment and sadness, but I don’t want to die because of it.”
“Huh? It doesn’t matter how Isabella-chan feels. Not only did the kidnapping of Geese fail, but Isabella-chan, who is trying to expose the existence of the magician organization, is in the way. And there is Isabella-chan’s fiancé, who is sniffing around us. Don’t worry, Isabella-chan and Isabella-chan’s fiancé’s souls will be used as materials for the same magic tool. Then you will be together forever.”
You’re saying that you’re going to kill Ursch-kun in a roundabout way and use him as a material for magic, right?
The moment I understood that, all of my feelings for Lucy-neesama, that remained even in this situation, were sucked out.
“. . . . I had a little sympathy for you until a while ago, but now it’s all gone. When you make a statement that would harm Ursch-kun, you are no longer my relative, but my enemy.”
“Ara, that’s too bad. . . Isabella-chan is still my cute sister-in-law. But no matter how angry Isabella-chan gets, as long as you can’t get out of here, there’s nothing you can do. Isabella-chan and also that boy named Ursch-kun, your fiancé? That child is also dead and lining up here.”
“Don’t call my fiancé’s name casually. Also, why did you think I couldn’t get out of here?”
If you really think you can seal me with this level of magic tool, it’s a big mistake. If you want to seal me, bring something made by Ursch-kun, enough to seal a medium-sized dragon!!
Whether it’s made of metal or magic stones, if it’s not something Ursch-kun synthesized, it’s like a cookie in front of my grip strength!! I crushed the magic tools on both hands and my neck, and broke the barrel that I was put inside of. Lucy opened her eyes wide in astonishment, blocking the fragments of the barrel that were shattered as if it had exploded.
“No way!! That’s a strong barrel with advanced techniques built in!!”
Ah, was there some kind of technique? This barrel. I just broke it normally though. But this is not the only way to break it.
I point with my index finger toward the ceiling. This is the magic I’ve always wanted to do since I was reincarnated in a world where magic can be used.
“Lightning!!”
That night, many people screamed and saw a huge pillar of lightning raising from bottom to top at the edge of the royal capital.
Ah. Lucy messed up when she threatened Ursch. She has made an enemy of the extremely OP Isabella. I understand that Lucy was upset but killing your little brother over it is just going overboard. It’s not like he had any choice in the matter to begin with.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter and thank you for reading.
