Chapter 59 Second Night Sleeping Together

Wen Yantong just finished throwing his clothes on the ground when she saw Chi Jingxi standing by the door connecting to the study.

She didn't change her posture and immediately reached out and retrieved the clothes. She patted them with her hands and pretended to say to herself, "Aiya! So strange. Why did these clothes suddenly fall to the ground?"

Chi Jingxi simply glanced at her, walked up to the main hall, picked up the cloak, and put it on.

"Does the Little Marquis plan to go out?" Wen Yantong asked.

Her nose was clogged, so her voice was a little hoarse. As soon as she opened her mouth, one could tell she caught a cold.

Chi Jingxi was silent for a while and then asked, "Did you get up in the middle of the night yesterday?"

Wen Yantong scratched her head. "The charcoal fire went out last night, so I got up and had a look."

He fastened the buttons on the cloak one by one and then seemed to want to ask a question. In the end, he didn’t say another word as he lifted the cotton curtain and left.

There was only one maid guarding the door, and when she saw him, she immediately lowered her head. Trembling, she handed his cotton boots to his feet.

Chi Jingxi changed his shoes and said, "Boil some hot water and let him drink it."

The maid hurriedly responded and respectfully sent off Chi Jingxi.

The snow was still falling outside, but the snow was lighter than yesterday. The snow in the Academy was constantly being cleaned, so it barely reached the heels of the shoes and would crunch when walked upon.

Cheng Xin waited for him for a while and came out immediately after hearing his guard knocking on the door. He asked with a smile, "How did you sleep last night?"

Chi Jingxi was very casual. "As usual."

Cheng Xin said, "Then why did you punish a maid early in the morning?"

"She didn’t know how to serve well, useless to keep." Chi Jingxi stated.

Cheng Xin couldn't help laughing out loud. "That’s still Wen Yantong's person. Did you ask for permission before handing out punishment?"

"He didn't ask me when he lived in my bedroom," he replied.

"I checked," Cheng Xin said. "When Wen Yantong hurt his leg before, Fu Tanghuan arranged for him to sleep by himself and assigned a couple of servants in order to make it easier for him to recuperate. Some teachers were also aware of this. He really didn't know the single dorm room was yours."

Chi Jingxi squinted slightly. "Aren’t those two siblings of the Fu Residence a little too close to the Little Cripple?"

Cheng Xin smiled without replying. The two chatted about some other things and headed toward Li Boyuan's room.

Wen Yantong relaxed a lot after Chi Jingxi left. She had a severe headache and felt weak all over.

She lay down again groggily.

A fever was not a big problem. Drinking a cup of hot water and covering your body until it sweats will reduce the fever. It was just that Wen Yantong had just taken a bath, so she didn't really want to sweat. Moreover, she didn't have the strength to move around.

But just after she laid down for a while, a maid brought hot water in. She walked gently to her side and whispered, "Wen gongzi, Wen gongzi..."

Wen Yantong opened her eyes in a daze. "What's the matter?"

"Little Marquis ordered this servant to deliver hot water, saying it was for you to drink," the maid replied politely.

When Wen Yantong heard that it was sent by Chi Jingxi, her mind became clearer. She slowly sat up and took the cup obediently.

The maid looked at her appearance and said, "Gongzi should have caught a cold. How about this servant go and get some medicine?"

"No need." Wen Yantong burned her tongue on her first sip. She waved her hand to further discourage the maid from going outside. "It's hard to walk on the snowy road. Don't bother freezing yourself in vain."

The maid sighed. "Gongzi is such a kind-hearted person."

Learning from the first sip, Wen Yantong drank the hot water in small sips. Seeing the maid's sad face, she couldn't help feeling puzzled and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you so depressed?"

The maid glanced at Wen Yantong, looking very timid, but only replied, "This servant is fine."

"Just say it. I'm not feeling well now and will be sleeping after I finish drinking, so don't delay." Wen Yantong said weakly.

"He Ying was punished by the Little Marquis for not fulfilling her duty last night. He had her move out to the servant’s courtyard of the Academy temporarily." The maid said with red eyes, "It's cold and snowy right now, and even if there were vacancies, those rooms aren’t often cleaned up. There’s no stove warmer there, and He Ying would definitely freeze to death if she went!"

He Ying was the maid who kept watch last night. The maid currently in front of her was called Mo Li, and both of them were handpicked by Fu Tanghuan. They usually served her well, so Wen Yantong liked them very much.

Hearing that He Ying had been punished, Wen Yantong was astonished. "When did it happen?"

"Just this morning." Mo Li replied.

Wen Yantong understood. It must have been because she didn’t add more charcoal last night that she angered Chi Jingxi. Though the strange thing was she heard none of this happening in the morning.

She asked, "Where is He Ying now?"

"Packing her belongings."

"You tell her to stay first." Wen Yantong said, "Tell her that I didn't blame her, and let her continue to be on duty when the Little Marquis leaves."

"But the Little Marquis’s guards are watching her pack," Mo Li said.

Aiya! This Chi Jingxi! Always doing things in sets...
