Chapter 61: The Struggles of a Cold
Chi Jingxi stood on the soft couch, lifted a corner of the quilt, and put his hand on the back of Wen Yantong's neck. The hot temperature instantly formed a strong contrast with his cold hand.
Wen Yantong was woken up by the sudden coldness. She shrank her neck suddenly, but this, in turn, pinched Chi Jingxi's hand tighter into her neck. It was so cold that she squeaked, "It's so cold! So cold!"
As she spoke, she squeezed Chi Jingxi's hand even tighter.
Chi Jingxi pulled out his hand and whispered, "Get up. Don't sleep anymore."
Wen Yantong was burning badly, so she was a little confused. When she heard Chi Jingxi's voice, she thought he was messing with her. With a voice full of resentment, she exclaimed, "Don’t use me as a hand warmer, Little Marquis! That’s too much!"
Chi Jingxi stated. "Since you can recognize my voice, then you haven’t burned yourself into a fool yet."
Wen Yantong muttered something again and then stretched out her hand to retrieve the quilt, successfully covering herself. She was ready to continue sleeping.
She just felt very cold. Her legs and feet were freezing, so she hoped to be warmer.
Chi Jingxi lifted the quilt and hung it on the back of the soft couch. He then grabbed her arm and easily lifted the person up to sit.
Wen Yantong's body was limp and had no strength at all. As if her bones were softened, she was about to fall down again.
Chi Jingxi turned Wen Yantong and let her lean on the soft couch. "If you sleep again, you will die."
Wen Yantong frowned uncomfortably. It was unknown if she had heard Chi Jingxi’s words.
He said, "Sit down. Don't cover the quilt anymore. Let the heat dissipate off your body first."
Wen Yantong nodded heavily as if agreeing to Chi Jingxi's words.
Chi Jingxi waited for a while and saw that Yantong wasn’t moving anymore, so he turned around and went to the door. He called the attendant, who was guarding the door, and asked, "Are the snowy roads travelable?"
Thinking that Chi Jingxi wanted to go back now, the attendant replied, "Carriages are not feasible, but walking is possible. It will just take a longer time."
"Go buy some herbs to treat cold and fever." Chi Jingxi ordered, "Have it made as soon as you return, and then bring it in."
The attendant took the orders and left quickly.
He then ordered another person. "Have the kitchen prepare some light dishes and serve it while it's hot."
Chi Jingxi only came back after ordering another two servants to boil some water.
Who would have thought? After he walked in and took a look, Wen Yantong had already wrapped herself into a cocoon again, with her head tucked into the quilt.
Chi Jingxi walked over and lifted the quilt again. He rolled it up, threw it on the bed, and said to Wen Yantong, "Get up."
Wen Yantong started acting up. With a very reluctantly voice, she asked, "Why are you tormenting me—"
The temperature on her body was already scorching to the touch. When Chi Jingxi saw that she was really going to burn into a fool, he pulled her up forcefully and called the maid, who guarded the door, to come in.
As soon as Mo Li came in, she saw Wen Yantong's face was extremely red, and she was lying crooked on the soft couch. Chi Jingxi said, "Take off two of his cotton-padded clothes."
In order to keep out the cold, Wen Yantong wore two thick cotton-padded clothes on his body, which kept the temperature of her entire body quite high.
Mo Li immediately stepped forward and said in a low voice, "Wen gongzi, this maid will be taking two layers of your clothing off."
Her hands were already in action as she spoke. Wen Yantong weakly opened her eyes to look at her. As if she seemed to have just woken up, she groggily asked, "What time is it?"
Mo Li said, "It is yuu-shi (5-7pm)."
Wen Yantong asked again, "Is the Little Marquis back?"
Mo Li glanced at Chi Jingxi, who was standing diagonally behind Wen Yantong, and answered quickly, "Yes."
Wen Yantong cooperated very well and allowed her to take off the padded coat. She then twisted her neck and looked around. "Where? Where is he?"
Chi Jingxi took two steps forward and asked, "Are you more awake now?"
Wen Yantong looked at him. She was very slow to react under the high fever. Her eyes had to look hard to concentrate, so she looked at Chi Jingxi for a long time.
The strange thing was that Chi Jingxi, who was usually impatient, didn't blame her with a black face today. Instead, he stood there, waiting for her to say something.
Wen Yantong said slowly, "Then close the door. It’s time to sleep."
You still dare sleep.
Mo Li said, "Gongzi, you have slept all day! You can't sleep any more!"
Wen Yantong said, "But I'm so tired."
Even though she was lying on the bed all day, Wen Yantong felt that her limbs were weak and exhausted, and even her eyelids were very heavy.
Mo Li probed her head and exclaimed, "Ah! It's so hot! What to do now?!"
Seeing that her situation was not optimistic, Chi Jingxi said, "Pour the water in the jug into the basin. Dip a cotton cloth in it and wipe his neck and arms."
Now that the medicine had not been bought back, this was the only method that can only be used to cool Wen Yantong’s body temporarily.
Mo Li listened to the order and hurriedly went to find a basin. Wen Yantong, who had lost her support, was about to fall down again. She laid on the soft couch with her eyes closed and remained motionless.
Mo Li quickly wet the cotton cloth, moved a chair to the bedside, and put the water basin on it. She wrung out the cotton cloth and supported Wen Yantong up.
The water in the jug was the hot water that Mo Li had prepared in the morning. It was kept in the room for a whole day. Although it was cooled down, it was still indoors, so it was not too cold.
But even if that was the case, Wen Yantong couldn't stand the coolness. She twisted to dodge as soon as she was wiped, pushed the towel back with her hand, and told Mo Li to back away.
Mo Li couldn't hold it by herself, so Wen Yantong broke free at once and fell forward.
