Chapter 92 The Secret in the Underground Tunnel (1)

The moment Wen Yantong heard the voice, her whole body relaxed; she no longer struggled.

It was Chi Jingxi.

In this dark tunnel where you can't even see your fingers, danger and fear was inevitable. There was a risk of being stabbed if not careful.

But after hearing Chi Jingxi's voice, Wen Yantong's originally panicked mood suddenly melted.

She herself knew very clearly that if it was anyone else standing behind her covering her mouth be it Mu Yang or Fu Zixian, she would not let go of her fear so quickly.

It was only because it was Chi Jingxi. As if he was a magical existence, as long as he was by her side, she would feel very safe. Wne Yantong didn't know if this was because she knew that Chi Jingxi was an important supporting role in the original book.

After realizing that Wen Yantong was no longer struggling, Chi Jingxi slowly released some strength in his hands as he pulled her back gently.

After Wen Yantong's mouth and nose were liberated, she took a deep breath. Because she was panting too loudly, Wen Yantong was covered by Chi Jingxi’s hand again. She wanted to free her nose, but suddenly heard footsteps coming from the tunnel again.

The arm around her waist increased their strength again, and Chi Jingxi almost covered her whole body in his embrace. He was breathing so lightly that she couldn't hear any sound, but she felt the scorching breath brushed past her ears. Wen Yantong’s heart started to race again. She turned her head and subconsciously burrowed deeper into his arms. Wen Yantong had buried her face in his lapel to soften the sound of her breathing.

Feeling as if she was too close for his confort, Chi Jingxi pinched her face and tried to pull her away. Wen Yantong heard the footsteps getting closer and panicked. Because she was scared, she quietly competed with Chi Jingxi.

The more he pushed, the more she drilled in.

Because the footsteps were getting close, Chi Jingxi stopped fighting; he was afraid of making a noise. Wen Yantong also stopped. In just a moment, she heard the sound of someone passing by. They seemed to have been traveling briskly as a slight cool breeze was felt by her head.

It seemed the person did not discover the two of them.

Hearing the sound getting farther and farther away, Wen Yantong let out a long sigh of relief. Just as she was about to speak, Chi Jingxi pushed her shoulder and took two steps back.

Wen Yantong immediately got closer, humphed in a low voice. "It's so dark here. Don’t push me, Little Marquis, what if I fall down?"

There was darkness in front of Chi Jingxi's eyes, but he could clearly imagine Wen Yantong's expression when she said this: with her lips pursed, and her delicate face full of displeasure and complaints.

His adam's apple moved as he replied in a deep voice, "Stand still."

Wen Yantong obediently listened to his words, but her hands unobtrusively grabbed Chi Jingxi's sleeves, filling her hands with fox fur. As soon as Chi Jingxi moved, she could feel the tug of his sleeves.

Recalling that Wen Yantong had grabbed a handful of mud just before, and now she was touching his sleeve, Chi Jingxi's brows could help but twitch.

Wen Yantong followed behind him like a good student. Curious, she asked in a low voice, "Little Marquis, how did you know I was here?"

Chi Jingxi didn't explain. He only said, "Shut up."

Wen Yantong didn't dare to talk anymore. Fearing that someone would come around again, she even breathed lightly as she quietly followed Chi Jingxi in the tunnel. Because it was too dark, neither of them were in a rush.

Apparently Chi Jingxi was somewhat familiar with this underground labyrinth. He methodically led Wen Yantong to turn a few turns, gradually slowed down, and finally stopped, "It's safe here."

Wen Yantong breathed a sigh of relief. She looked left and right, and found that there was still no light, and couldn't help being doubtful, "How do you know it's safe here?"

Chi Jingxi ignored her doubts, but said, "Why are you here?"

Wen Yantong muttered, "Little Marquis hasn't answered my question yet."

Chi Jingxi fell silent again. In such a dark place, as soon as he kept silent, Wen Yantong felt as if she was standing here alone, so she quickly asked, "Can I light a fire here?"

"You have fire?"

"There are two firestarters in my pocket." Wen Yantong replied. This was something she kept in her pocket before she left, thinking it would come in handy.

Chi Jingxi said, "Take it out."

Wen Yantong hurriedly took out two firestarters. She fumbled around looking for Chi Jingxi's hand, and handed him one. After pulling off the cover, she blew on it lightly, and a small flame appeared, adding a touch of light to the endless darkness[1].

The outline of Chi Jingxi was drawn in an instant. Although the visibility was not high, she could still see his beautiful and deep eyes. Wen Yantong was very happy as she continued to question, "Little Marquis, why don't you explain? Just a few words to relieve my confusion!"

Chi Jingxi didn't blow the firestarter in his hand, but took the one from Wen Yantong's hand. He held it to the wall and walked a couple of steps.

Wen Yantong followed closely behind him. When Chi Jingxi stopped, he pointed his fingers at a certain section on the wall. Only then did Wen Yantong realize that there was a palm-sized tiger engraved on the wall; it looked very inconspicuous.

Chi Jingxi said, "This is Yinhu Road. Those people don't come here often, so it should be considered safe."

"How do you know?" Wen Yantong was puzzled.

Chi Jingxi doesn't look like he's been here before, so how was he so familiar with the tunnel?

He took out a folded piece of paper and handed it to Wen Yantong, "This is a map."

Wen Yantong was startled. She quickly took it, unfolded it, and looked under the light of the fire. Shit, she couldn't understand anything on it.

Wen Yantong blinked in confusion, only feeling that the lines on it were dazzling to her eyes. She glanced at Chi Jingxi, folded the paper in half with a deadpan expression, and asked, "How did the Little Marquis get into this underground tunnel?"

Chi Jingxi seems to have expected that she would not understand. "Yinhu Road is close to the self-destruct device in the underground chamber, so few people usually come here. They will only come here if something serious were to happen.”

"How do you know this?"

"Through Interrogation." Chi Jingxi replied.

Footnote:

[1] So apparently there is this kind of fire starter where you just have to blow on it and it starts a small fire. This video and also this novel is slightly exaggerated. In reality, this fire starter should only start a small ember, just enough to light a fire, without much of a flame, but we won't nitpick ahaha.
