After swimming a few more times, I arrived at the entrance of the ancient building. Only then did I see that there was actually a three-meter-tall wall outside of the huge ancient building.
To my surprise, the material of the wall was the same as the stone wall I had just stepped over. It was a huge rock!
I shivered. Could it be that the stone wall wasn't formed naturally, but was a part of this wall?
A plan quickly formed in my mind. If what I imagined was true, then the stone wall I crossed from the top to the top of the ancient building was the first barrier that prevented outsiders from entering. The three meter high wall in front of me was probably the second barrier.
However, was there no mechanism between the two stone walls?
If everyone, like me, had effortlessly crossed the first obstacle, would there be no other facilities to hinder the enemy? Was it because I had been floating in the water without touching the ground that I hadn't set out on any other mechanism?
Then why is there an old building here? Was it built thousands of years ago and then flooded?
However, if this ancient building was truly over a hundred or even a thousand years old, then the wood that was used to build this building should have long since decayed. Moreover, it was soaked in water every day, so how could this ancient building still be standing firmly on the spot?
I thought of many possibilities, but they were all rejected by me. Regardless of whether I was willing to believe it or not, under these circumstances, I should have followed a scientific method of analysis.
I thought about how I had just come in from the stone wall, and I wanted to do the same thing again. Maybe there was a hole somewhere in the wall that would allow a person to pass through.
So I began to search along the wall.
Although these stone walls were not tall, they were very long, making it difficult to find them. Even though I no longer had the concept of time, I still felt that a long time had passed before I was able to find a wall.
I estimated that this period of time, according to my senses, was less than half an hour and more than twenty minutes.
In this way, if I was unable to find anything even after searching all four walls, then I would have no choice but to return empty-handed. However, thinking about it like this, I started to feel a bit unhappy.
As I began to grope for the second wall, I felt my shoulder ache, so I lifted my head and tried to move my neck, but just as I did, I suddenly realized that this three-meter wall didn't seem to be much higher than the one I'd been using in the water, so why didn't I swim over it?
Thinking about this, I wanted to slap my forehead, but the water had too much resistance, so I stopped and floated up, trying to swim over it.
However, after swinging my arm up and down for more than ten times, the distance between me and the top of the stone wall didn't seem to have changed at all. I couldn't help but feel depressed.
But why was this stone wall taller than me? Will it rise with me? Or was it because it was in water, and through the thick water, my estimate of the height of the stone wall was wrong?
I couldn't figure it out no matter how much I thought about it. If I were to give up now, I wouldn't be willing to give up. So I pushed myself a few more times, and found that the distance between me and the top of the stone wall had not really changed!
I gradually began to understand that the underwater world I was in was most likely an illusion! Therefore, I should not have viewed this place in a normal way from the very beginning!
With a clear idea, I felt a lot more at peace. Humans were always like this. After one had a certain understanding of their surroundings, no matter how one previously felt, or even how different they were from this, a deep feeling in one's heart could completely defeat this kind of brain's rejection towards the beast race.
Since there's no way to cross over, I can only return to the lowest point of the wall. I am prepared to use the old method to slowly search through it.
I lowered my body to the lowest point and didn't give up as I looked up. Indeed, the distance between me and the top of the wall hadn't changed at all. I could still see it, but I couldn't reach it with my hands.
I finally gave up and had to bend down, inch by inch, to start searching.
After a long time, I finally managed to find the second wall, but I was still unable to find the entrance. Am I really going to start off thinking like this?
Disappointed, I turned to the third wall and was about to begin when I noticed a gate in the wall!
It was the standard entrance of an ancient residence. There was a signboard and a tile on top of the wooden door. Maybe it's because I've been in the water for so long that I can't read the words on the signboard anymore, but I'm still very happy because I found the door. That means I can go in and search for Zhao Xue's corpse!
I rushed to the door in a hurry. Just as my hand made contact with the metal ring on the door, before I could use any strength, the door creaked and opened automatically … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
'This is in the water! Can it be that the wooden door in the water also makes a sound due to its age? '
I didn't know what was going on. Just as I was about to head in, I suddenly heard the water in my surroundings start to flow violently. I didn't know if it was strong or not, but I could feel the attraction.
With one glance, I was almost stunned --
Right in front of this door, a large part of the sand at the bottom of the water had sunk in, leaving a hole the height of a person. Until now, sand was still continuously flowing into this hole. That's why I feel the accelerated flow of water.
I didn't know what was inside the hole, but I had a bad feeling that something was going to jump out of the hole, so I didn't dare to act rashly, didn't dare to leave, and didn't dare to approach.
I watched in silence for a long time, until I felt the ground start to shake. I quickly used one hand to support myself against the wall, but then I saw a black object slowly rising from the hole!
It rose about two-thirds of the way up, and I recognized it at once. It was a coffin!
Restraining the fear in my heart, I thought to myself, I am a medical student, I have even dissected a corpse, what are you afraid of?
Thus, I suppressed my fear and walked towards the coffin.
I put a hand on the lid of the coffin to check if there was anything wrong, but just as my hand touched the lid, the heavy lid floated up and out of my control. It followed the flow of the water into the distance.
My first thought was that there must be something strange in this coffin!
Thus, I didn't dare to look into the coffin. Instead, I used all of my strength to swim out a large piece of the coffin. It wasn't until I estimated that even if the thing inside escaped, it wouldn't be able to harm me for now that I slowly stopped.
I turned and stared back at the coffin, ready for something to crawl out of.
After waiting for a few minutes, the coffin in front of me still hadn't moved at all. This time, my courage finally increased a bit as I slowly swam forward a few times. After seeing that there were still no movements from the coffin, I simply took large strides and returned to my original spot.
But it doesn't matter if I look at it. When I did, I nearly vomited in the water.
Inside this coffin lay a dead man!
This person had extremely long hair and wore a red robe. His skin was swollen from the blisters, and many parts of her body had already started to rot. Her exposed flesh and blood had turned pale and green after being soaked in water.
I brushed the disheveled hair from the corpse's face. Her cheeks had rotted, and her face looked as if it had been soaked in water, like an irregular sponge that had been soaked for too long and had begun to grow moldy. But what makes one's hair stand on end is that even though her face has changed, I can still see that there is a trace of a strange smile on her face!
Although she was unwilling, I have to believe that from her outer appearance, she was Zhao Xue!
I stretched my hand out towards the coffin, but it was useless for me to pull it back. Although I was already used to seeing corpses, this was the first time I saw a disgusting corpse like this. It probably wasn't possible for me to carry her back with my bare hands right now.
Even though I knew that I had to do it, I still couldn't bring myself to do it.
I kept comforting myself that Zhao Xue's soul was already under our control, so this was really just an ordinary corpse. There was nothing to be afraid of, so we could just pretend that we were in the operation room!
However, no matter how much I think about it, I can't get through this trial in my heart …
Finally, I thought of a way to take off my jacket and wrap it around my hand. There was a gap in my hand, as if I was wearing gloves. When I touched Zhao Xue's corpse again, this hurdle in my heart had finally passed.
I forced my hand into the coffin and paused for a while. Finally, I gritted my teeth, closed my eyes, and grabbed Zhao Xue's arm. However, in the end, I had never come into contact with this kind of corpse before. I grabbed towards Zhao Xue's corpse with all my might, but suddenly I felt Zhao Xue's skin was like cotton.
I was startled and quickly retracted my hand. When I looked again, there was already a depression on Zhao Xue's arm and it didn't show any signs of recovering at all.
I couldn't help but swallow a mouthful of saliva, feeling a little uncomfortable with this strange feeling in my hand.
However, there were some things that had to be done. I hardened my heart and pulled Zhao Xue's arm. I constantly hinted myself to forget about the uncomfortable feeling in my hand. I just had to close my eyes and pull her out.
