Chapter 68: Chapter 67: “Leaving the Mining Area” (Seeking for More Reading)

Collins Mine, Southern Mining Area.
The entire Collins Mine is a private property of the wizard organization [Nature Church].
It produces a rare mineral known as mica mine, which is quite pricey.
The Southern Mining Area alone has hundreds of mine caves, supervised by a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice from [Nature Church].
And Milton Cheney, disguised as Jacob, is also from [Nature Church], although he’s just an inconspicuous outer peripheral member.
On this continent, being an Official Knight does not make you much superior to an ordinary person.
So, after Jacob joined this wizard organization as an outer peripheral member, he did not receive much attention and was assigned to work as a supervisor in the Collins Mining Area.
Considering he is backed by the [Nature Church], not many would dare to mess with him apart from the Wizard Apprentices. This arrangement is already pretty good.
At the restaurant in the Southern Mining Area.
Milton Cheney was eating slowly, head bowed low.
“Jacob, what’s happened to you? You’ve changed in the past few days. You’re not talking as much anymore.”
Sitting beside Milton Cheney was a middle-aged man with a large beard named Theodore, who had developed quite a good rapport with Jacob.
But, of course, “quite good” was the best one could say about their rapport. Based on Milton’s recollection, Jacob was chatterbox, yet he did not have any close friends here.
Theodore, scratching his head confusedly, was eyeing Milton Cheney, who was silently eating his meal.
Jacob used to be the most talkative. Even during mealtimes, he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
But now, he had become so quiet, it was like he had become a completely different person.
Milton swallowed the food in his mouth, gave a light cough.
“I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather for the past few days. I think it’s better if I don’t talk much.”
Milton spoke softly, deliberately lowering his voice to match Jacob’s.
Theodore didn’t notice anything amiss and gave a nod, indicating his understanding.
One couldn’t deny that Milton’s talent for disguise was impressive. No one had noticed anything strange about him over the past few days.
The most that the people, who knew him well, thought was that he was talking less. But no one paid any mind to it.
Having finished his meal, Milton put his plate in the recycling area and left the restaurant.
After two days, thanks to his Spiritual Eye and personal observations, he had pretty much figured out the workings of the Mining Area. Now, it was time for him to leave the Mining Area.
“You’re leaving the Mining Area?”
In the records office of the Southern Mining Area, Malik, who was responsible for registering the information, was slightly surprised.
As he spoke, Malik glanced at Milton standing in front of him.
Milton was a bit unfamiliar to him. Nevertheless, he managed to find the name Jacob in the register.
Looking at the name “Jacob” in the register and then at the date next to it, Malik spoke.
“You’ve only been here for six months. Could you tell me why you’re leaving? Being a supervisor here is a decent gig. The organization won’t arrange any other work for you after you leave.”
Milton had prepared a script beforehand. He knew exactly what to answer.
So he spoke quietly, “Lord Malik, I don’t think the work environment here suits me. Although I’ve only been here for half a year, I can feel my health deteriorating.”
As he spoke, he added on a few bouts of coughing.
His cough sounded severe, so much so that onlookers might believe he was about to cough up a lung.
Seeing that Milton’s act was convincing, Malik, looking slightly disgusted, covered his nose and waved his hand.
“Alright, register for the departure from the Mining Area.”
People like Milton were common in the [Nature Church]. They were said to be outer peripheral members, but in reality, they were just insignificant cannon fodder.
The organization had been merciful enough to assign them work; expecting continuous care was simply unrealistic.
Unless someone was an official member, all other outer peripheral members were treated the same.
So, he didn’t care where Milton goes after leaving the Mining Area.
However, here, an Official Knight without a backing would find it very difficult to survive.
“Thank you.”
Milton nodded and said.
He hadn’t considered staying longer in the Mining Area. But he wasn’t exactly the real Jacob.
If he were to be exposed one day, there would be no escape.
So the best plan was to leave.
After all, he had no shortage of Magic stones. Even after leaving, he could find a good place.
More importantly, this was the Wizard Continent. His Simulator could be of great use here.
Currently, he was a Grand Knight and a Wizard Apprentice. Even if he were to join another organization, he wouldn’t merely be an outer peripheral member.
But Milton did not have any such plan at the moment. All he wanted to do now was to live in obscurity for a while.
After registering, Milton left the Mining Area smoothly.
No complicated challenges or deliberate difficulties arose.
After leaving the Mining Area, Milton faced another problem.
Where was he to go next in this unfamiliar place?
Luckily, Collins City wasn’t far from the Collins Mining Area. According to Jacob, he knew the exact location of Collins City.
He could first settle in Collins City before deciding on his next steps.
Time passed, and following the route provided by Jacob, Milton reached Collins City without any incident.
Collins City, befitting its reputation as a city in the Wizard Continent, was far superior to Far East City.
Just standing near the massively tall and imposing city wall gave a sense of grandeur.
After paying the entrance fee, Milton went into the city.
The city was extremely spacious. The roads were flat and impressively clean, without the sight of any garbage or foreign objects.
Upon entering the city, Milton’s attire did not arouse any attention.
The footfall in Collins City was quite substantial. No one would notice such an ordinary looking person.
Milton didn’t plan on visiting the [Nature Church] base. Instead, he headed straight to a large shop.
Upon entering the shop, a maid quickly greeted him.
“Do you sell maps here?”
“Yes, sir. Please follow me.”
Milton followed the maid while his eyes scanned their surroundings.
The shop was large, with numerous customers. The hum of conversation added to the lively atmosphere.
“Here are our maps, sir. Feel free to let me know your preference.”
Milton took the stack of paper that the maid handed over and swept a casual glance over them.
“Do you have a map of the entire continent or maybe just the southern part of
Milton examined the maps and found that they were all small area maps. The largest one only covered a few nearby cities.
“Large maps are available on the second floor. I’ll take you there.”
On the second floor, the maid whispered a few words into a man’s ear. The man nodded and walked towards Milton.
“I am sorry, but the largest map we have here only covers half of the southern region. We don’t sell maps of the entire continent or the entire south.”
The man sounded apologetic.
“It’s alright. Just prepare the largest map you have for me.”
“Oh, and do you have any decent Knight Swords? I’d like to purchase one.”
Milton nodded before speaking again.
“Yes, sir. Please wait for a moment while I get it for you.”
