Chapter 59
Early morning the second day when Zhao Jiangui goes to seek Ji Han, Ji Han is in his study dealing with the sect's documents and official business. The head maidservant waits outside the door, sees him come in, and gives him a slight smile, saying, "Zhao Gongzi, Jiaozhu is inside."
Zhao Jiangui nods, pushing open the door.
Ji Han seems to stuff something under the desk. The documents are piled up like a mountain before him, clearly because these days he had been injured.
Ji Han lifts his head towards him, expression falling naturally quite flat, "You've come."
Zhao Jiangui also pretends he didn't see anything, smiling slightly as he asks him, "Do you need to change the dressings on your wounds today?"
Ji Han nods his head, "Yes, I already had Xiao Lin go request Yan Daifu come over. Sit down first."
Zhao Jiangui then is sitting down in front of Ji Han, not long after, Xiao Lin soon comes bringing Yan Daifu.
In any case, the study isn't the place to change the dressings of the wounds. Ji Han's room is close by, and the head maidservant accompanies Yan Daifu with Ji Han proceeding before them. Xiao Lin then goes with them, too. He doesn't forget to send Zhao Jiangui a meaningful glance, however.
Zhao Jiangui naturally understands.
He stays in the study and doesn't follow them in leaving. Unexpectedly, no one drives him to get out, maybe all considering him to be Jiaozhu's lover, so no one waits in the study. He then quickly steps over next to Ji Han's desk.
Just now he had clearly seen Ji Han hide something under the desk.
Zhao Jiangui made a name for himself when he was young. He had already walked across Jianghu a dozen or more times, and he had also researched secret mechanisms to some extent. He quietly searches the sides of the desk for a moment, soon discovering a secret object in the desk's leg, obviously a bamboo tube taken from the leg of a carrier pigeon.
On this slip of paper is written the Demon Sect's discovery of that secret path's location.
Zhao Jiangui hurriedly looks the slip of paper over, committing it to memory.
He worries Ji Han or someone else will come back early, hastily returns it all to its original state again, goes back to his seat, his heart nevertheless extremely nervous.
At this moment it seems as if two people are quarreling in his heart. One thinking that he's gravely mistaken in doing this, the other, however, thinks this act can't bear chivalry, that it's supposed to be this way.
His whole heart is still twisted up, Ji Han has already returned.
"Trouble you to sit a while longer." Ji Han teases him, "Wait for me to finish looking over these documents, then if you could please still deign to accompany me in going out to relieve my boredom."
Today, Ji Han's mood seems quite good, even the intonation of his speech is unable to completely restrain his cheer.
Zhao Jiangui nods, feeling only the burden of guilt in his heart increasing.
After waiting for Ji Han to finish looking over documents and drinking his medicine, it's already afternoon.
They eat together, Ji Han's internal injuries haven't yet healed, he's unable to go too far, then they just stroll around together in the Demon Sect's garden.
Before arriving in the Demon Sect, Zhao Jiangui had thought the Demon Sect was a dismal, frightening place, but now that he's seen it, the Demon Sect's garden is cultivated just as well as that of the Haoran Alliance.
The two are low-spiritedly silent and unspeaking as they walk a while. Ji Han finally can't stand it and opens his mouth to ask him.
Ji Han, "What's going on with you these two days?"
Zhao Jiangui, "I..."
Ji Han frowns, "If someone in the sect said something unkind to you, don't hesitate to tell me."
Zhao Jiangui, "..."
He knows Ji Han has misunderstood this, and he steps back also not knowing how to explain.
In any case, he can't tell the truth, so he can only shift away from the topic of conversation.
"How are things going with those assassins?" Zhao Jiangui asks, "Could you find out who sent them?"
Ji Han's expression becomes more grave, "Wen Zhanglao insisted on interrogating the assassins personally, I really couldn't turn him down."
Zhao Jiangui is still somewhat suspicious of Wen Zhanglao, hearing Ji Han say as such, he's inevitably a bit worried, "You let him interrogate them? This... He doesn't count as one of your trusted subordinates, does he?"
Ji Han says, "Don't worry, I already had Hua Hufa follow up on this matter, and now Wei Qi has also returned. Those two certainly are able to ask and suggest whatever things." He thinks a bit, continues to explain, "Hua Hufa and Wei Qi are both my trusted subordinates."
Zhao Jiangui says, "Or investigated thoroughly a bit earlier."
Ji Han says, "I already instructed him yesterday. In a minute we'll go together to ask Wei Qi what progress has been made in this matter."
Zhao Jiangui is forced to nod.
Ji Han thinks a bit, speaks with him again, "Go, I'm bringing you somewhere."
