Chapter 124

The keyboard underneath Shen Youlin's fingers was smoking hot as he typed away. By bedtime, he had written less than 20,000 words but managed to moan and groan enough to get Yu Shu to stay in his hospital room overnight.

Yu Shu had uncovered all of his pen names except for the "88 Discount" one. This guy actually had a pen name called "Little Pink Bunny" under which he wrote romantic fiction aimed at women. The novels would start with overbearing CEOs and sweet indulgences in the upper class, only to take an unexpected sharp turn that sent the stories hurtling down a path of "dark fairy tales." He would typically use a cute pen name and sweet indulgent titles to lure in naive young girls before dropping them into dark pits. The readers would cry one moment and laugh the next, cursing the stories while still following them avidly, not knowing which was more interesting - the book reviews or the story content itself.

Deep into the night, Yu Shu sat propped up in the bed, still reading one of the novels on her phone.

"Stop reading!" Shen Youlin snatched her phone away. "It's already 1:30 AM, you should go to sleep."

Yu Shu had just finished a book and did feel a bit tired. She stretched lazily, "Plug in the charger for me."

With one hand, Shen Youlin plugged the charger into her phone. Then he lay down with a mischievous grin, "Satisfied with what you've read? Woman!"

"Quite satisfied. Keep up the good work tomorrow."

"Well if you're satisfied, don't I deserve a... reward of some kind, hmm?"

"Didn't I give you a 5,000 yuan cash reward already?"

"What?!" Shen Youlin exclaimed in anguish. "You giving a cash reward is no better than just tipping me - the platform takes a cut for itself!"

"No, no! You've misunderstood. I meant a reward, not a cash tip!"

Shen Youlin quickly got back on track, seeing Yu Shu looking confused. He took her hand and guided it towards a certain unmentionable area...

Yu Shu slapped him hard. "Your hand is about to fall off and you're still being naughty."

"Vicious shrew!" Shen Youlin cried out, cradling his privates and cursing.

"........"

...........

After tending to his "injury," Shen Youlin finally settled down. Yu Shu had been kept awake by his antics and was no longer sleepy, so she kicked him lightly. "Can't sleep, let's chat."

Shen Youlin opened his eyes groggily amid yawns, "Chat about what?"

"You're so much better now. In the past, that smart mouth of yours really almost drove me to an early grave."

"Aiya, I thought we agreed not to bring up old grievances."

"I'm not, just reminiscing. Remember when I last had a stomach ache? It was because of you too - that time we ran into each other at the mall and you lied to me about our family going bankrupt."

"No way, you got that upset?"

"Yeah, I was sick from being 'frozen by bamboo shoots'. I had to go look up what that even was."

"Tsk tsk, stir-fried bamboo shoots are so delicious. I love them, I'll have someone prepare some authentic ones for you to try tomorrow."

Just thinking about the images she saw when searching before, Yu Shu felt her scalp tingle with revulsion. "No thanks."

"They're good, you should try them!"

"Let's go to sleep, we can talk about it tomorrow!"

The next day, the two slept in late and had brunch together. On the table were a cold bamboo shoot salad and a bowl of bamboo shoot soup that had been added.

Shen Youlin lifted a bite to Yu Shu's mouth. "Ahhh..."

Yu Shu leaned back in resistance, but eventually had no choice but to reluctantly take a small bite with her eyes squeezed shut...

Yu Shu!!

It was... actually quite delicious.

Seeing the change in her expression, Shen Youlin grinned. "Heh heh, tasty right?"

Yu Fanxing brought over some nutritious chicken soup to the hospital as a warm gesture. But the sight that greeted her was Shen Youlin feeding Yu Shu some bizarre, unidentifiable "poison." She stared blankly as Yu Shu calmly ate it without any change in expression.

"Auntie, your timing is really poor," said Shen Youlin.

He thought for a moment, then added, "Actually, no matter when you come, the timing is never good."
