Second Floor (7)

He is the One Pushing Everything into Entropic Disorder
Lunatic is in the clinic, and Lone Wolf has been sent to solitary confinement. The rather boldly executed scheme has failed for now——The rest of the counterplay will be between higher players, beyond their reach.
As Lunatic’s ‘fuse,’ Jiang Yiyi is naturally sent to the clinic after him.
“All scratches and bruises. Nothing critical…” The Chief Physician tells Butcher.
Butcher glances at Jiang Yiyi, and rubs his nose, “uh… does he need a medical parole, maybe?”
The Chief Physician is still checking Lunatic’s wounds, when he straightens up at the suggestion, telling Butcher, “the outside won’t be any safer than in here.”
Butcher is rubbing his hands together, “I suppose.” He looks at Jiang Yiyi once more, “then well, you can get to work. I have to tell them something.”
The Chief Physician gets back to his duties.
Butcher hints at Jiang Yiyi, then leaves the clinic, and whispers what he is about to say.
“The conclusions of this incident…” His expression suggests he finds the poker-faced Jiang Yiyi, and poker-faced Lin Yi a pain to deal with, “will be entirely up to the supervisors. Regardless, it is too severe to go by without naming the one responsible…”
Lin Yi raises his brow, “not Lone Wolf?”
“Whether Lone Wolf or Lunatic is more problematic is not up to us, but as for who is taking the fall…” Butcher pauses quite opportunistically.
Jiang Yiyi turns to look at Lin Yi.
Lin Yi appears quite sensitive to his gaze; their eyes meet almost instantly as he also turns his head——He suddenly gets it.
“Butcher, you’re saying…” Lin Yi wonders in amazement, “me?”
It would be more surprising if Lin Yi is not shocked, given his activities since arriving on the second floor, he is certainly not a prison officer under Butcher’s thumb. In fact, Lin Yi might as well go around with ‘I’ve got connections’ written over his face.
No matter what Butcher is cooking, Lin Yi is the last person to take any fall——Unless Butcher is trying to declare war against the power supporting Lin Yi.
That would be a most unwise course of action, which, obviously, Butcher would not take.
And he does not indeed. That would bring him no benefit and only endless trouble. Which is why Butcher’s true intention is…
“Not just you, of course…” Now he’s glancing at Jiang Yiyi.
Jiang Yiyi raises his brow in turn.
It’s almost farcical, enough for him to smile, “and me?”
Lin Yi goes quiet as Butcher has decided to face off Jiang Yiyi now.
“As you have decided to appoint yourself the attending psychologist of Lunatic…” Butcher explains with a steady pace, “then the harsh consequences of what the patient did while under your care, must certainly be shared by you as well.”
Jiang Yiyi waits for Butcher to finish his surely incomplete deal.
“If you elect to take the main responsibility, Lunatic may be able to get off lighter.” Butcher smiles, which causes the excessive flab on his face to jiggle incessantly, “you will also be arriving at the third floor, as you both wish.”
Lin Yi straightens up in reflex.
“As we both wish?” Jiang Yiyi repeats that phrase before speaking, “you appear to have misread me. I do not plan on going to the third floor.”
Butcher glances at Lin Yi, and makes a melodramatic display, “I thought you were ‘friends’? So you were after different things in the end?”
It is time for Lin Yi to step in. He walks half in front of Jiang Yiyi, “we need a bit of time first.”
Butcher smiles once again, “ah, I see. Do take all the time you need…” He takes a few steps back, “when you have your reply, do tell me so I can inform the superiors promptly as well.”
Butcher turns to leave.
Lin Yi turns to look at Jiang Yiyi.
Jiang Yiyi looks up at the surveillance camera above.
“That one has been out of order for a few days. It’s not fixed yet.” Lin Yi explains, “Butcher is not that dumb as to have that talk with us on record.”
Jiang Yiyi’s fingers twitch. There is a silver light, and the camera shudders for a moment before completely falling limp.
Lin Yi looks up. He cannot see any visible damage to the camera, however…
Jiang Yiyi takes a few steps to pick up the unassuming blade on the ground. He looks back at Lin Yi.
“Just in case.”
Jiang Yiyi walks back, “given your identity, if you don’t go the extra mile, it’s quite easy to…” he takes the time to watch exactly how Lin Yi’s expression changes in the few seconds while finishing, “die.”
Lin Yi’s expression changes in quite the complex, subtle ways. It’s inscrutable, “given my identity? Of what?” Staring at Jiang Yiyi, he seems confused, “a prison officer?”
Jiang Yiyi blinks, “what else but a prison officer? Unless you do have some other identity.”
Lin Yi furrows his brow in confusion, “Prison officers would not easily die, though.”
Jiang Yiyi offers a business smile.
Lin Yi should really be refuting, but right now, his conversation partner is Jiang Yiyi.
A name now powerful enough to stop him trying to dig further.
“A very impressive display of throwing blades.” Lin Yi changes the topic, “I don’t think I’ve seen you do it before. Did you have training?”
Jiang Yiyi looks at the two solitary skills in his biography, and falls into thought.
“I haven’t.”
“You sure don’t look the part.”
Jiang Yiyi looks at the movement on his hand. The blade whizzes past his fingers, smooth like a part of his own body——Is this a reasonable extension of the skill of Surgery?
Jiang Yiyi pauses, and stares at the thin blade for a few seconds——Why would an unlicensed surgeon even be carrying a thin blade around in the first place? So that he can offer first aid in a timely manner?
He quickly goes through the memories of the NPC he’s already gone through once more. An average, mundane life flashes before his eyes. There is no discrepancy. Only the boring life of another fool.
