Lone Wolf… committed suicide?
Someone bearing so much hatred does not give up their life easily.
“Doesn’t sound like it was suicide. They didn’t find anything else?”
Lin Yi turns his head some more, to stare quite openly at Jiang Yiyi this time, “it was ruled a suicide.”
“That conclusion sounds awfully irresponsible.” Jiang Yiyi comments offhandedly, while still thinking about the suicide, when he realises at the same time, that this incident had to do with the third floor’s avoidance of him and the fact that the Coordinator of the third floor didn’t come see him.
“So you are saying, they thought I did this?” Jiang Yiyi asks with genuine astonishment——All he did was lock eyes with Lone Wolf for a bit while separated by a long stretch of corridor. They seriously think he could be the one to make Lone Wolf commit suicide?
Do they take him for an omnipotent deity or have their brains malfunctioned?
With total obliviousness to his own strange conducts, Jiang Yiyi begins to wonder why he, a normal person, is being treated as some perverse individual.
There is a slight inkling in the back of his mind that has noted something odd, but before Jiang Yiyi can pay attention to it, Lin Yi speaks up.
“Lone Wolf committed suicide.” He repeats, looking away, “at least, that is what they are writing down in the official report.”
“Yet they thought I did it.” Jiang Yiyi look at Lin Yi, looking for an ally, “how can they be so ridiculous?”
Lin Yi watches the grass trampled under their feet, but remains silent.
“With no evidence whatsoever, and only from the fact that Lone Wolf and I are on bad terms, they rushed to a conclusion…” Jiang Yiyi continues speaking. He is gloating, isn’t he?
“Ever since I left solitary confinement, I’ve never interacted with Lone Wolf again…”
He locked eyes with you, thinks Lin Yi.
He puts strength into his feet, repeatedly pushing and grinding the grass into the ground, until it can no longer straighten up.
“All that could count as ‘contact’ is the two of us locking eyes…” Jiang Yiyi pauses, when he recalls something, and stares at his biography – at the skill named Psychology——think about it for a few seconds; this skill really operates in mysterious ways.
However, is the detachment from reality not something to be expected, given that it is a skill in a game?
Lin Yi has not heard a word from Jiang Yiyi for seconds now. He turns his head to look.
Jiang Yiyi notices, and changes the topic, “well, I suppose I cannot accuse them of making an error in judgement.”
“Whether they were right or not, Lone Wolf’s death is officially a suicide.” Lin Yi moves his boot away, staring at the mess on the lawn he’s made, while commenting, “nobody will feel like coming into contact with you just so they can investigate.”
“That sounds like a good thing.” Jiang Yiyi starts walking to leave the courtyard.
“It might be a little boring.” Lin Yi follows, “but for the time being, I would like to ask the Doctor to keep to yourself as much as possible.”
The courtyard door opens, with rows of prison officers to the side who make no attempt to visually inspect them.
Lin Yi leads Jiang Yiyi towards his cell.
“Standing out will only bring trouble.”
“Trouble?” Jiang Yiyi repeats.
“Outside of prison officers and prison officers, there is another department operating in Stargaol. They are officially called Observers.”
“They are the ones who evaluate the danger of prisoners and keep an eye on everyone to ensure Stargaol’s operations.”
Observers. That name rings a bell.
Some fleeting memories come into his mind once more.
Yet again, it is his childhood friend’s familiar silhouette, familiar tone, and familiar words.
“Jian Si, oh dear God, Jian Si. I thought the Observers are at least neutral, but you still got backstabbed in the blink of an eye… So do you even have one single friend you can rely on? Everyone wants you dead. Truly, ‘names may be wrong, but never so nicknames.’”
What happened to the protagonist was truly staggering and shocking.
“If you stand out too much, and attract the attention of Observers, perhaps… you’ll end up sent straight to the bottom floor.”
Lin Yi stops to open the door.
“Observers…” Jiang Yiyi is in thought, wondering, “are their supposedly independent ranks free from any other factions?”
“They are direct subordinates to the Warden, so they must first possess absolute loyalty.” Lin Yi, leaning on the wall, asks Jiang Yiyi, “are you intrigued by them?”
“The Warden?” Jiang Yiyi tries to recall information from his memories based on the term.
“The ruler of the Han Federation Stargaol. The single biggest mystery of the five commanders of the Federation. He has revealed practically no information of himself to the public.” Lin Yi pauses, then suddenly says, “Doctor, your memories…”
Jiang Yiyi looks up, asking calmly, “hmm?”
While the gaze is calm, those who know the Doctor well can sense the threat from Jiang Yiyi all the same.
A threat of death.
“I actually had the impression that Doctor knows the Warden…” Lin Yi changes the topic smoothly, “given how perfect Doctor’s files were.”
“I don’t.”
Not only does he not know the Warden, but he does not even know there is such a person——From memory, at least.
“That would be a little troublesome, then.” Lin Yi is feigning frustration, “with the news of Lone Wolf’s suicide making waves, the Observers might already be on to you…”
“Observers…” Jiang Yiyi comments, “they sound like an interesting bunch.”
