Chapter 47: I Won’t Bother You Anymore

After hanging up the phone with Zhou Muxian, his fingertips were trembling with cold, and the suffocating feeling of breathlessness made him want to take a deep breath.

Zhou Mushi tightly held onto his own mobile phone, staring obsessively at the contacts in his address book, but he didn’t have the courage to make the call.

He hadn’t figured out what to say after making the call.

Sitting dumbfounded until late at night, he suddenly jumped off the windowsill, rummaged through his wardrobe for some clothes, put them on, grabbed an umbrella, and took a taxi to the house he had bought jointly with him and Jin Yang, each owning half of the property rights.

Zhou Mushi, who had previously soaked in the rain, had not recovered at all, and his complexion was still bad, with his lips slightly trembling.

He paid the fare, took several deep breaths, and walked towards the building.

His mind was in a mess, and he didn’t know what he was thinking. He even began to calculate whether he should step with his left foot or his right foot first.

Carrying the umbrella that kept dripping, he watched the elevator rise floor by floor, the red numbers jumping up and down, as if digging out Zhou Mushi’s heart and tossing it around like a toy.

He gathered his courage and stood at the door, his hands trembling slightly as he barely held them together, his index and middle fingers stacked together, rhythmically knocking on the door.

“Knock, knock, knock.”

He held his breath and listened intently, hearing footsteps approaching from inside the room, like a prisoner awaiting his verdict.

Jin Yang opened the door, not expecting Zhou Mushi to be the one knocking. He was taken aback at first, but then relaxed and couldn’t help but show a hint of joy on his face.

“Mushi.”

Zhou Mushi’s chest felt sour, and he made up his mind to not caring about anything anymore! He wanted to open his arms and hug Jin Yang tightly in his embrace.

Just as a relaxed smile appeared on his face, a young boy’s voice came from inside the room: “Is it takeout?”

“I…” The words that Zhou Mushi had not spoken were stuck in his throat, and Jin Yang turned his head to speak to the boy who was bouncing over, “No, it’s a friend.”

Zhou Mushi’s expression froze on his face without fully forming. He slowly retracted his smile and forcibly maintained a not-so-bad mood.

“I, I seem to have lost something here, I came to look for it.”

Seeing that Zhou Mushi didn’t doubt him, Jin Yang reached out and took the bag hanging on the hook near the entrance.

“Is this what you’re looking for?”

Zhou Mushi’s face became even more frozen. He had only made up an excuse and never expected that the other person would actually give him a package to take out.

The young boy looked at him curiously. He seemed to have just walked out of the university campus and looked clean like a bundle of snow.

He tugged at his own face, took the bag handed over by Jin Yang, and forced out two syllables, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“I won’t bother you anymore, I’ll leave first.”

“Okay.”

With one hand carrying a plastic bag and the other holding an umbrella, Zhou Mushi plunged into the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors closed, he began cursing Jin Yang’s ancestors, starting with his great-grandfather, in a non-stop stream.

Before he even made it out into the rain, he felt his clothes getting wet. He reached up to touch his face and found it wet.

Jin Yang with a delayed realization, started to think about why Zhou Mushi had made a trip just for some toiletries at this late hour. If he needed them urgently, wouldn’t it have been more convenient to purchase them at a nearby supermarket?

Could it be that he wanted to see him?
