Chapter 119: Online Dating Requires Caution
“Little girl, what are you saying?” Jin Yuan tried to put on an authoritative demeanor as a parent.
However, he had previously felt that he owed Ranran something and had been too indulgent with this little girl. Now, even though he tried to be serious, she didn’t take him seriously at all.
With her chin held high, she said, “Daddy, although you’re old enough to date and find a stepmother for me, your status doesn’t allow it. You’re a student who will take the college entrance exam next year. Dating will affect your studies. You can’t learn from those bad kids outside. Our teachers said that we should focus on our studies in middle and high school and have fun in college. Jin Yuan, straighten up!”
Jin Yuan was amused by his daughter’s words and responded, “Jin Ranran is right. You must be obedient and study hard.”
As he spoke, he didn’t forget to tap quickly on his phone screen and typed a few letters.
Chili: “OK. When?”
Zhou Muxian had been waiting for a message on the other side. When he didn’t get an immediate response to his question like before, his heart sank. He suddenly felt that his invitation was too sudden. Although they got along well, they were just online friends. How could he ask someone to go on a trip with him?
See, the other person isn’t even responding to you.
Feeling dejected, he sighed and rolled around on his bed. Suddenly, he received a reply agreeing to his invitation. Zhou Muxian sat up and was about to finalize the details, but then he hesitated. The other person was a student preparing for the college entrance exam. Even though he had emphasized that he was an adult who had been delayed for many years, Zhou Muxian subconsciously felt that the other person was still young.
If the other person was only 18, 19, or 20 years old, wouldn’t he seem like a creepy old man with ulterior motives? It was indeed too sudden.
After thinking for a while, he deleted the time he had suggested and typed a new message.
“Hey, it’s already the end of this month. Let’s both take a few days off and go to Venice. We’ll book the same hotel and not tell each other when we’re arriving. Let’s see if we have a chance to meet.”
Staring at the screen, Jin Yuan didn’t know what he was feeling, but he quickly agreed without hesitation.
Chili: “Great. Which hotel should we book?”
Stars: “Hold on, let me check.”
Chili: “Sure.”
Jin Yuan put down his phone, unable to conceal his joy on his face. He took a deep breath and glanced at his daughter who was doing math problems, with a polite smile of a father.
“Ranran, do you feel confident about the entrance exam for middle school this time?”
The little girl said lightly, “It’s fine, I always score full marks every time, so I’m used to it.”
Jin Yuan smiled with relief, “That’s good. Dad wants to discuss something with you.”
“What is it?” Jin Ranran put down the pen in her hand and asked earnestly.
“Um, Dad has a friend who needs my help with something, and I may need to go out for a few days.”
“For a few days?”
“A month.”
Jin Ranran: “…Dad, tell me the truth, did you fall in love online? Let me tell you, online relationships are unreliable, they’re all scams. What if someone abducts you when you’re out there alone? These scammers are everywhere now! How can I be at ease when you’re away?”
Jin Yuan scratched his head nervously. “Don’t talk nonsense. A friend asked me to help with something.”
The little girl’s face was indifferent. She was used to being thoughtful, so she asked, “Where are you going and when?”
“Tomorrow, overseas.”
Jin Ranran saw that he had made up his mind and knew that she could not stop him. She could only remind him, “Then you have to promise me that you’ll call me every day and report your situation at any time, so I know you’re safe!”
Jin Yuan didn’t think his daughter was any different from other kids her age since he came back. It wasn’t until today that he realized that his little girl was only twelve years old and had an old-fashioned mentality. He didn’t know whether she saw him as a father or a son.
He touched his daughter’s small head. “Don’t worry, Dad’s a grown man. I won’t get lost.”
The little girl turned her head away and muttered under her breath, “Who knows whether you’ve been working all these years or just got lost.”
She had known since she was little that her mother was gone and could be ignored, but her father was still there. Why did he have to work for so long and not come back to see her?
Under abnormal growth environment, how can a child grow up to be happy and sunny?
Ranran tried to give herself psychological guidance, to make herself healthy and lively, but sometimes, certain issues are inherently unhsound and cannot be completely resolved.
Her voice was too low and Jin Yuan didn’t hear it clearly.
“Okay, okay, let’s not talk about this. Dad, I want to eat braised pork ribs today.”
“Okay, I’ll go make it for you.”
“You go ahead, I’ll go back to my room and play for a while.” The little girl said and went into her room, closing the door. She immediately dialed Jin Yang’s phone number. Jin Yang had just finished a day’s work and had specially driven to the mall today to buy some fresh vegetables.
Upon seeing the incoming call display, Jin Yang answered the phone.
“Hello, Ranran.”
“Uncle, I have something important to tell you. I suspect my dad is having an online affair and is planning to meet up with someone. He said he’s going to help a friend with something and won’t be back for a month. Uncle, do you think my dad is being scammed?”
Jin Yang didn’t expect to hear this word from his little niece and couldn’t help but ask, “Where did you hear that?”
“That’s not important. You have to do something about my dad. Although it’s just my guess, I feel like it’s very likely.”
Jin Yang agreed, “Alright, leave it to me.”
Ranran hung up the phone and walked to the window of her room, looking out. Her father is still so young but always causes her worry!
In the kitchen, Jin Yuan was still preparing the pork ribs for dinner, feeling grateful for online socializing that made him happy. He couldn’t help but find it amusing that his daughter thought he could fall for a scam as a thirty-year-old man, not a young girl who should be more aware of the dangers of the outside world.
Age has nothing to do with naivety. At that moment, Jin Yuan had no idea what was about to happen, full of anticipation as if he was going to see pink bubbles.
Some people are in denial about their online affairs, insisting they are just friends.
