Ch. 17 - Attack of the Dog Demon

The dog's speed was astonishing, covering nearly a hundred meters in the blink of an eye and arriving at the entrance of the factory. However, sensing something, the dog suddenly halted its movement, arching its back slightly, and its fur bristled.

Inside the control room.

The driver, lying on a bed, shifted in his sleep and mumbled a couple of dream-induced phrases.

The other two individuals in the control room frowned as they looked at the dog on the screen, exchanging glances.

"A dog demon?"

"Though it has only undergone demonization recently, why would it appear in such a remote place?"

"Could it be that fool Luo Tian brought it here?"

"Are you kidding me?"

"Could he be thinking of sending a few apprentices who haven't even left the school to fight demons?"

They were clearly disgruntled.

"What chaos could a minor demon cause?"

"Besides, Luo Tian will take the blame."

The driver, seeming half-awake, stretched lazily and glanced sleepily at the monitor. Bored, he commented. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the NʘvᴇlFirᴇ.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

"Have you considered the consequences if things go wrong?"

"They're playing with their lives!"

"Moreover, what if this dog demon wasn't released by Luo Tian?"

Monitoring personnel A scolded the driver, looking at him angrily.

Monitoring Personnel B nodded in agreement.

"Can't you see the traces of a binding collar on the dog demon's neck?"

"Furthermore..."

"Which of the human race's achievements didn't involve bloodshed?"

"Do you think studying in a classroom can bring peace to the world?"

"Clerks are just clerks, inevitably delicate."

The driver's mouth curled with a hint of sarcasm. He leisurely sat up, taking a cigarette from his pocket and removing his coat to reveal a dark red shirt underneath.

On the right sleeve of the shirt, a medal was affixed.

It depicted a horizontal bar.

Seeing this medal, monitoring personnel A and B, who had been somewhat angry, instantly reined in their emotions. They looked at the driver with a touch of respect in their eyes.

"At least there's some entertainment now."

"An activity isn't bad either."

The driver held his cigarette at an angle, pulling a chair over and squeezing it between the two, seating himself. He looked at the monitor.

Flicking the ash off the cigarette, the driver, with a hint of excitement, muttered, "Let's get started!"

"Let me see how far this little guy can go."

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the dog, which had hesitated outside the door, seemed to sense the absence of danger. It let out a low growl and charged into the factory, sniffing around continuously.

Having identified its target, it charged precisely toward the direction of the students, colliding with various objects and creating noise along the way.

Amid this unusual situation, the students finally began to wake up, groggily perceiving the crimson eyes of the dog demon in the darkness.

The dog's eyes were bone-chilling.

Ferocious, greedy and selective in its prey.

Most importantly, the students had never before experienced such a situation, having always remained safely within the city.

Although they had received teachings about how to respond to sudden demon attacks in the wild, in their panic, they were all like fledglings, utterly bewildered.

The two teachers were the first to react.

They stood up instinctively, positioning themselves in front of the students, and ethereal shadows gradually emerged behind them.

"Do you think this is for the students' own good?" Liu Qingfeng opened his eyes, watching the silhouettes of the two teachers and murmuring softly.

The two teachers hesitated.

Gazing at the dog demon before them and then back at the students behind them, they ultimately clenched their teeth and took a step back.

But before retracting their movement, they used their aura to deter the dog demon, buying a few more seconds for the students.

In a matter of life and death, a few seconds played a decisive role.

The students mustered their courage, recalling what their teachers had taught them in the classroom.

Du Xu was the first to take action.

He picked up a wooden stick nearby and held it, positioning himself in front of everyone.

His robust physique gave the others an inexplicable sense of security.

Even his bearded face looked much more pleasing at this moment.

Zhao Zicheng, on the other hand, immediately searched for Yusheng's figure but found no trace.

Confused, he gritted his teeth and rushed forward and stood beside Du Xu, continuously muttering to himself for encouragement.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid!"

"My dad is the head of the guard department!"

"Don't be afraid!"

Although he spoke those words, his face appeared somewhat pale.

Yet, no matter how much fear lurked in his heart, he didn't step back.

A few more individuals stepped forward, forming a line in front.

However, most of the students were instinctively shrinking back.

The two teachers watched the scene before them with a touch of helplessness. They sighed softly, withdrawing their auras.

The dog demon grew restless once again.

Its bloodthirsty gaze fixed on the humans before it, viewing them as a mere sustenance.

Lacking any form of intelligent thought, it couldn't determine its fate for the day.

Yet an instinctual desire arose within it.

Telling it to...

Devour them.

"Roar!"

Issuing another low growl, the dog demon charged again. Du Xu remained the calmest among them, gripping the wooden stick and moving forward instead of retreating.

He withstood the demon's sharp claws, swinging the stick with a hissing sound.

The damp stick snapped directly.

The dog demon merely shook its head lightly, leaving a bloody scratch on Du Xu's arm.

Seemingly having caught the scent of blood, the dog demon grew even more frenzied, pacing agitatedly.

...

"He does have some backbone."

"Just a bit foolish, not realizing that the dog demon's hardest part is its head."

"A bit clueless."

"But he's like those stubborn fools, exuding a stubborn aura."

Inside the control room, watching the scene, the driver smacked his lips, though his tone was somewhat mocking. However, his gaze toward Du Xu held genuine appreciation.

As a soldier,

He particularly liked spirited young fellows like him.

During his time in the reserves, these kinds of youngsters...

Were particularly satisfying to fight against.

They resisted, they remained unyielding.

They could be repeatedly challenged.

Soon after, he withdrew his gaze. These newly demonized minor creatures didn't pose a major threat. As long as there were more people and their courage was stronger, they could deal with it eventually.

Moreover, these were all elite students from different schools.

He even subconsciously thought that if one of them accidentally died, it might actually be a good thing for them.

Perhaps it could motivate one or two promising individuals.

Unfortunately...

These were just students, not soldiers.
