Chapter 924: The Third Playmate

Yvonne’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets but thankfully she was able to regain her composure as well as rein in the immediate rejection that was just about to slip out of her mouth.

However, the reluctance written all over her face did not diminish in the least bit.

Unfortunately, Queen Zena who was now discussing this matter with her husband had failed to notice the changes that had taken place in the young girl’s facial expressions.

On the contrary, she was focusing on her conversation with the King who was now murmuring and nodding as though he approved his Queen’s suggestion.

???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????-????????????.????????????

This sight only increased Yvonne’s fear for what might take place if the King was willing to accept this unnecessary proposal.

Only a few hours ago, she was glad to have extracted herself from the script this world followed.

However, if the King changed his mind and commanded her to join the Princess then the future she was trying to steer away from would be right within her reach.

.....

‘That is the last thing I want!’ She grimaced, hoping to hear a negative response coming from the King soon enough.

King Ophire had always wanted his children to be surrounded by capable individuals.

Not only his son, his heir, but also the Princess whom he cherished a lot.

Therefore, the King had been attentive while choosing the playmates meant to assist the Princess as they grew older in each others’ company.

Yvonne St. Claire had always been someone he had in mind to take up that role but the chance slipped out of their grasp when she had sustained an injury that made her unfit to join the Princess many years ago.

Though he had been regretful about her inability to study with the Princess, he did not think too much about it later on.

Yet once again, his desire to have Yvonne as a playmate had risen especially after he realized that she was the one who had figured out and corrected the flaws in the policies created by the previous generations.

However, he had been rejected once and did not want to bring this matter up once again as it was obvious that the young girl did not feel comfortable with their arrangements.

Therefore, when King Ophire recalled why Yvonne had initially not become a playmate, his nodding head faltered.

His eyes moved subconsciously and just as he had expected, the young girl they had been talking about now had concealed expressions of disbelief and reluctance evident in her amethyst eyes.

Even now the King had not been able to decipher why she seemed so averse to the very idea of becoming his daughter’s study partner.

Nevertheless, he had to respect her decision which he could tell had not changed even after a few years.

Therefore, his eyes sought the one who could be of assistance to him and smiled when he found the right candidate for the job.

“What does Marquess Samed think about this? Can Miss St. Claire become the Princess’ third playmate?” The King questioned the Royal Tutor.

This query made it seem as though the final decision did not rely on the approval of the Earl and Countess but on the Marquess who was the one tutoring the children.

Marquess Samed was not just in charge of the Princess’s education but was also overseeing the studies of many other girls in the Capital.

Therefore, there was nothing wrong with the King’s question as the tutor needed to be notified about it either way.

King Ophire’s single statement brought attention over to the Royal Tutor once again, stiffening his back at the variety of gazes that were now aimed at him.

Queen Zena and Princess Felicia had expectant looks on their faces which bore great resemblance to each other.

Whereas, the King and the Prince had neutral expressions, waiting to hear what the Royal Tutor had to say.

However, Marquess Samed’s attention wasn’t on any of them but was on the little girl who was also intently staring at him.

Leering would be the right word to describe what the child was doing right now.

Yvonne was doing her best to not glare threateningly at her tutor to ensure that he did not utter anything that would ruin her future plans.

Holding her annoyance in, she continued to fix her slightly narrowed eyes on him, hoping that he would get the message she was trying to convey.

It wasn’t just Marquess Samed who realized that he would be in trouble if he uttered the wrong word.

The Earl, the King, and even the two Princes who were watching this sight from the sidelines were able to decipher what her unblinking gaze meant.

“It would be troublesome, Your Majesty.” Marquess Samed finally disclosed his thoughts once he decided what he had to say to appease both his pupil and the Royal family.

When he found the Queen staring at him as though she was expecting a proper explanation, the Royal Tutor did not disappoint.

“The Princess and her companions have already formed a good rhythm for their studies so bringing a newer member might disrupt the flow of their classes.” He provided a perfectly reasonable justification for declining the Queen’s suggestion earlier.

This answer made Queen Zena ponder over the validity of his statement and found some truth in it.

After all, though the other child was said to be smarter than peers of her own age, she might still find it difficult to compete with those older than her.

Not to mention that the Princess was already used to the pace of her classes and making changes might affect her in the future.

The three girls might have to slow down for the new child which could have a negative effect on their progress.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the Queen nodded before glancing at the child standing before her.

“I mustn’t have brought this up.” She muttered, aiming a regretful smile at the younger one whose hopeful dreams she must have ignited and destroyed with her careless words.

Those words were supposed to be treated as an apology even though there was no mention of an actual apology.

However, Yvonne did not care one bit as she was glad that she had escaped from the fate she was desperately hoping to avoid.

Therefore, she bowed her head a little before the Queen to imply that she was fine and did not mind what had taken place.

She also did not forget to shoot an appreciative glance toward her tutor who heaved a sigh of relief upon gaining this sign of her approval.

This sight was once again observed by the three men of the Rosenhyde Royal family.

The King shook his head when he saw the silent exchange between the pair of tutor and pupil, finding it amusing to see how the Royal Tutor was willing to dance to the tune of the young girl.

On the other hand, Prince Fritzen frowned when he noticed the strange glances these two had shared with each other.

Though he did not know what it exactly was, he had already sensed something odd had just taken place.

‘But what exactly is it?’ He wondered, staring intently in hopes of figuring out what he had just missed.

Finally, the older Prince who remained in his hiding place on the balcony above rolled his eyes at how timid and submissive the Marquess could get at times.

He had long since known that the daughter of the St. Claire’s family did not seem interested in what the Royal family had to offer.

Though he too wasn’t sure of what the true reason behind her actions was, he wasn’t as clueless as his nephew.

Therefore, the three men of the Rosenhyde Royal family had already caught the secret glances that the young girl had shared with her tutor which many had failed to notice.

Standing in the crowd, many young girls heaved a sigh of relief which seemed similar to the Marquess’ earlier but they had done so for a different reason.

If the Miss of the St. Claire’s family had somehow managed to become the unexpected third playmate of the Princess then her position would have risen exponentially in no time.

Therefore, they rejoiced when the Marquess rejected the suggestion of including Miss Yvonne in his classes with the Princess.

In this way, the daughter of the Earl could continue to possess the same lowly status as she always did, not daring to rise higher than them which would be the best for her.
