Chapter 74 - Repay His Kindness

Now inside her room, Yvonne sat on her comfortable bed and was mulling over the challenge that she had accepted from her brother.

'He said that I can start training from the day after tomorrow.' She recalled while tapping her fingers on her knee.

He had even given his reason for choosing the time that he would be away from the house for her preparation before the assessment that would take place in a month's time.

'I will not be here and hence will have no way to know what you are good or bad at.' He had begun with a serious look on his face.

'I will choose the areas of assessment based on the techniques that your tutors teach you and not what you have mastered in the course of a month.' He had declared and Yvonne felt that his reasoning was valid and had agreed to go along with them.

Taking a deep breath in, Yvonne smiled because she had managed to achieve what she had planned.

'Slowly but surely I will move towards my goal and gain everything that I have planned for.' She resolutely determined to work hard to achieve her goals.

Soon, Yvonne felt her eyes grow heavier indicating that it was time for her to get some sleep.

Not fighting the drowsiness that was encompassing her being, she got under the covers and shut her eyes to get some sleep.

'I need to be fresh and energetic for my class with Marquess Samed tomorrow morning.' She remarked and within a few minutes, she was drifting off to her dreamland.

This day, Yvonne was not tormented by insomnia nor was she targeted by an evil being trying to whisk her away to another realm.

It seemed as though the promise of peaceful days that Asmodeus had given her was working its magic.

While Yvonne had fallen asleep, her parents were fretting about what would happen to their precious daughter if she continued insisting on taking these new classes.

Raylene sat on the bed and her eyes followed the man who was pacing around the room.

"Ruthy, come sit! My neck hurts!" She groaned while rubbing her neck and was slightly sore after moving from left to right for the past half hour.

Rutherford did not reject his wife's orders and promptly took his seat next to her.

"Ray, what will we do now?" He implored in a sad voice while cupping her cheeks in his palms.

Raylene nodded her head and held the warm hands that were on her cheeks.

"Ruthy, finding a tutor is not that hard. I'm sure you can find a suitable one for Vonny." She tried to cheer him up but instead, she received a sudden chuckle from him.

"That is not what I am worried about, my dear wife." He corrected her and rubbed his nose against hers.

Raylene was confused after hearing him decline what she had thought was his source of worry.

Looking at her conflicted face, the loving husband in him was awakened and he decided to explain what exactly it was that Yvonne would have to face during her training.

Rutherford narrated how he had first started training when he had aspired to become a young knight.

"Sore muscles, calloused fingers, sweaty body, scratches, and injuries. Ray, these are but a few of the obstacles that Vonna will have to face if she persists on her stubborn demands." He revealed and smiled when he saw the surprise flashing on Raylene's face.

"You weren't aware of these, now were you?" He inquired and received a quick nod from her.

Raylene had grown up in a small viscount's family and had never seen the training that knights and squires underwent.

Thinking in this way, she had a doubt in her mind which she didn't hesitate to place before her husband.

"But Vonny does not want to become a knight. She doesn't have to undergo such gruesome training. She only wants to learn how to protect herself!" She repeated Yvonne's earlier words to make sure that her husband remembered them.

Rutherford had not become so old that he would forget what had happened in the last hour.

"But she will have to bear the pain of putting her little body through the training even if it is not as tedious as the ones meant for the knights." He elaborated on his point of view.

Raylene gave a weak nod followed by a bitter smile before she wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him tightly.

"You remember how she was adamant about riding that horse back in our summer estate?" She hesitantly mentioned that scary incident that had almost taken their precious child away from them.

"Just because we had refused to let her ride one, she snuck into the stable and tried to mount the horse by herself." She continued even though she knew that her husband had not yet forgotten about what had happened.

Rutherford grimaced when he thought back to how panicked they were when they heard the news about their daughter falling off a horse and injuring herself.

Shaking those terrible moments away from his mind he sighed because she was fine now.

"If we disagree with her she might attempt to do it on her own and injure herself further." Raylene muttered in a terrified voice, thinking of how stubborn and bold her daughter was, and hugged him tighter.

"No, no! Ray, Vonna has become a good and obedient child now. She wouldn't do something so reckless." He defended his child yet at the corner of his mind, those same thoughts were bubbling up.

He rubbed and then patted her back to calm her down and then a thought struck his mind.

"We must be grateful to that brave stable boy who had managed to save her in time." He nodded when he thought of the new recruit who had saved her.

In fact, it was a pure accident that had caused Draco Roschester who was disguised as a stable boy to 'save' Young Miss Yvonne St. Claire.

The boy had simply stepped inside the stable to complete his job of pouring water for the thirsty horses when he saw the child trying to climb onto the horse.

Just as he had reached her position, the little girl was thrown off by the angry horse and had thus landed straight onto Draco, flattening him and successfully injuring him in the process.

Raylene gasped when she remembered something she had heard and looked up at her husband's face.

"Ruthy, those boys that the butler had hired as part-time stable boys… One of whom had saved Vonny." She mentioned and then waited until Rutherford gave her a nod indicating that he remembered them.

"They quit the job soon after that incident and we never got the chance to repay Vonny's savior for his good deed." She expressed her regret for not finding them sooner.

When they were about to leave their fief, Raylene had inquired about the boys and that was when she was made aware of their early departure.

Rutherford too felt regretful for not rewarding the boy when he was still in their estate.

"I will certainly repay his kindness if we ever meet again." He declared in a firm tone and was keen about keeping this promise.

Pushing this matter to the back of his mind, he got back to the topic that his wife was worried about.

"As for the matter with the tutor… " He drew his words out and chuckled seeing the curious face of his lovely wife.

"I know just who to call." He smirked when a certain someone's face came to his mind.

Raylene gazed at him inquisitively and pouted when she saw that he was being tight-lipped about it.

"Will this tutor be willing to come on such short notice?" She inquired and obtained an instant nod.

"Oh, he has a favor to return so there is no way that he would give me a negative response." Rutherford sneered with confidence causing Raylenen to giggle.

Her crystal clear voice as she giggled while still pressed up against him made him discard all thoughts about Yvonne's future tutor.

Narrowing his eyes, he focused his sights on the lithe body that was laying in his arms.

Raylene raised her brows when she noticed the change in his eyes.

'Hmm? She tilted her head and continued to gaze into his eyes and failed to notice his hands which were working their magic on her clothes.

Within seconds, she finally realized what was going on in his mind when she felt her dress feel lighter than usual.

"Ruthy!" She exclaimed, shy and blushing while watching his little ministrations coming to fruition.

The collar of her dress dipped causing the top of her supple chest and her cleavage to appear which were meant for his eyes only.

"You've been disobedient today." He muttered and blew his hot breath into her ear.

Raylene shuddered and closed her eyes, feeling his hands which were exploring her bare upper body.

Seeing that she wasn't trying to protest or shy away from his touch, his actions got bolder and in the matter of a few seconds, her dress was completely off her body.

Rutherford's eyes filled with worship and love which roamed across her body made Raylene blush until her cheeks turned a deep reddish hue.

"My Ray is still the shy young lady I married." He uttered in an amused tone following which he leaned forward, pressing her into the bed and under his body.

Raylene giggled and shyly accepted her husband's love that was all hers.
