Chapter 181 - A Troublesome Candidate

While Baron Quinn MacIntyre was sighing in relief thanks to the carriage which was now out of his sight as it rushed towards the Palace, Yvonne was sighing as she sat in hers.

The large and comfortable carriage of the St. Claire's family was heading in the same direction of the estate that it had begun its journey this afternoon.

Raylene had physically exhausted herself due to all of the shopping and was emotionally drained thanks to the fright she received when she noticed that her daughter was missing.

Thinking of her daughter, she turned towards the little girl who was looking out the window with his chin resting on the edge.

Yvonne was watching the scenery change from the busy streets of the Commercial District to the calm and serene greenery along the path towards the estate of the nobles.

"Vonny, sit up straight! You might hurt yourself." The worried mother chided her child who had propped her chin on the edge of the window.

'What would I do if she cut her chin on that sharp edge while the carriage is moving at this fast pace?' She shook her head and was disgruntled by her lack of attention to the child.

If she wished to say to her husband that she had taken good care of their daughter then that would be a big fat lie as she had lost sight of their only daughter for many minutes in Madam Norma's store.

Now, she did not want any more additions to the things that she had done wrong after forcing their child to accompany her to the Commercial District

The child who was reprimanded did not wish to argue as she had a lot on her mind to deal with at this moment.

Therefore, she nodded at her mother and sat as she was told to, with her back straight which immediately pleased the Countess.

This journey back home was the time for Yvonne to get her story straight as she would have to answer her mother's questions and her father's inquiries once she gets back.

'I can deal with her but what about father?' She wondered as she shot a sly glance at Raylene who was lost in her thoughts after making sure that her daughter was sitting properly.

The ditzy and easy-to-please Countess was not hard to deal with according to Yvonne's analysis.

It was the Earl Rutherford St. Claire who appeared to be a troublesome candidate to deal with for the little girl.

As she continued thinking up new ways of tackling the problems that might arise, the carriage entered the premises of the St. Claire estate.

As soon as the carriage came to a halt, a scream was heard from outside which startled the mother and the daughter who were seated inside.

'What the hell was that!?' Yvonne scowled as she rubbed her ears that she had covered with her palms.

Raylene was likewise frowning as she recognized the shrill and screechy voice which had almost hurt her delicate ears.

The scream had not only startled the coach driver and the people inside the carriage but also the servants of the mansion.

Rutherford had been on his way to greet his family who returned after many hours when he heard the shrill voice.

Though he was sure that the voice did not belong to his wife and child, he was still worried about their safety.

Hence he with his faithful butler in tow rushed towards the source of the voice which was identical to his previous destination.

Once the two men arrived at the front porch of the mansion, they saw the woman who had been the source of the loud and shrill voice as she remained glued to the side of the carriage.

'This woman!!' Butler Limo rolled his eyes at the reason for their haste and then stepped in her direction.

Paula, whose scream was the cause of the Master's hurried arrival stood still as she shut her eyes in fear of the creature that stood before her.

She had gotten off the carriage to hold the door open for her Madam and the young miss when she felt a shadow cast over her.

'Has the Master arrived!?' Overjoyed, she exclaimed as she turned around to greet the Lord of the mansion.

The excitement and joy that she felt in her heart as she turned around had now been replaced by terrifying anxiety.

The cause of the fear was none other than the etcher who was looking down at the woman who was blocking his way.

Demon had caught the scent of his master in the air when he was on his usual strolls around the vast grounds of the estate.

Having noticed her arrival, how could the etcher not grab this chance to meet his master?

Hence he had rushed over and what he found was this woman who was blocking his way.

The scream had startled Demon as well who took a couple of steps away from the strange woman he had seen for the first time today.

However, his eyes narrowed as he could smell a strange smell coming from the woman who was now cowering as her body stayed stuck to the carriage door, blocking Yvonne and Raylene's exit.

The maid who was unaware of the scent that she was emitting could not help but tremble when she felt the huge and terrifying beast move closer towards her.

By now, everyone had more or less gotten used to the huge beast who was their young miss Yvonne's mount but Paula was not one of them.

As she had just ended her punishment period and left the Lower Hall, she was lagging on all the events that had taken place in her absence.

Hence she was also ignorant about Yvonne's new pet who was now thought to be the Master of the grounds as he roamed wherever and whenever he pleased.

Demon was trying to figure out the scent that he had caught on the maid with his eyes narrowed dangerously as he exuded a fierce and deadly aura.

Paula had forgotten how to breathe as she trembled feeling the huge and scary horse move closer than before.

Just as she was about to faint due to the fright that her poor heart was experiencing, she heard the voice of the man which sounded like her saving grace.

"Demon, move." Rutherford commanded as he stood a few feet away from the beast and the maid.

The etcher turned his gaze towards the man and his eyes narrowed when he caught the same scent from the man whom his master liked.

Demon abandoned trying to figure the scent out from the maid and stepped towards the tall man who had the same scent.

While Demon and Rutherford were in a silent face-off, Butler Limo dragged Paula away from where she stood frozen.

'She will never change!' He scoffed when he noticed that she was busy gazing at their master who was glaring at the horse.

Not once did Rutherford spare a single glance at the maid who had been saved from the predicament she had been stuck in.

Instead, he smiled as he stepped towards the carriage and held the door open for the people who were inside.
