Chapter 228 - The First Test Is...

Yvonne did not argue with him or try to change his mind using her words.

'Fine! You win, you stubborn mule!' She glowered in her heart at the young boy who found joy in going against her at every step of the way.

"Shall we begi-'' Rutherford spoke up in an attempt to disperse the dampened atmosphere between the siblings but was interrupted.

The cause of the interruption was the sound of horses galloping which were heard from afar.

'Who is it now!?' Yvonne growled as she turned towards the source of the sound.

A familiar carriage which was a frequenter to the estate arrived and came to a halt right before them.

The St. Claire family members knew exactly who the owner of the carriage was and soon even Captain Desmo was made aware of this information.

The driver opened the door for the person who was seated inside and within a few seconds, a young man emerged through the carriage.

The little girl looked at the face of the man she saw every day and this made her roll her eyes at him.

'Why is he here?' Yvonne rubbed her forehead and massaged her throbbing temples when she saw who the newcomer was.

The young man with long silver hair and bright red eyes was none other than her tutor, Marquess Sullivan Samed.

"Greetings! I hope I wasn't late!" Marquess Samed chirped his greeting, appearing to be in a pleasant mood.

He scanned the people present and had already received his answer that he had arrived right on time.

'I would have come by earlier if only Miss Rika could grasp what I was explaining to the girls.' He sighed as the girl from the Kiron family was the cause of his delay.

Yvonne stared at him with questioning eyes when she saw that he was here, uninvited and late.

The Marquess was adept at comprehending her expressions and he was sure that she was mocking him at this instant.

"I am here to cheer for my prized pupil." He announced the reason why he had appeared even when they did not have any classes today.

'One after the other people keep interrupting us when we are about to start!' The child glowered at the second interruption after the Captain who had also arrived late.

Captain Desmo had been staring at the man who had called the pupil that he had been training as his own.

Feeling his scrutinizing eyes, Marquess Samed turned in his direction and their gaze met, following which they took a few seconds to gauge the other man.

The Marquess had come over to witness the assessment and also to gain some valuable and juicy gossip but this also resulted in him meeting the other tutor that his pupil studied under.

Yvonne was standing right between them and she got the first row tickets to watch the sparks of irritation that were flying between the two men.

One was her tutor and the other was her trainer however, it may have come to her knowledge that neither of them liked the other.

Marquess Samed was often on the receiving end of listening to the child rambling about how cool her classes with the Captain were.

On the other hand, Captain was often annoyed when he found that this tutor got to flaunt his relationship with the child before the entire Kingdom while he had to remain a secret.

'Why does it feel as though the main wife, Marquess just met the mistress, Captain, who had been kept a secret until now?' She snickered when her mind thought of this resemblance in their current situation.

Her laughter brought them both back to her senses as they glowered at the girl who was laughing at their expense.

'They are similar in this regard!' She determined which caused her laughter to get louder.

Everyone present stopped whatever it was they were doing and smiled at the child who was laughing heartily.

'Eh? Why am I being stared at?' She wondered and stopped laughing after feeling their gazes on her face.

Yvonne cleared her throat as she felt awkward at being the center of their attention and decided to divert their minds onto another topic.

"NOW can we begin?" She inquired with a grumbling face.

The little girl had been trying to get the assessment to begin but no matter how many times she tried, there was always something or someone who was interrupting them.

Marquess Samed had no clue of what had taken place before he had arrived straight from the Palace after his class with the Princess so he remained silent and gave his nod of approval.

'I just want to see how much this man could have taught her.' He shot a glance at the Captain who was nodding at the child.

Captain Desmo had felt the white-haired man's eyes on him but he did not turn around and respond to it as he had better and more important things to care for.

'I do not like this man!' He declared right after their first meeting.

The fact that Sullivan Samed could flaunt his tutor-pupil relationship to the other nobles while he had to keep it under wraps was a bigger thorn in his heart than what he had expected it to be.

"What will the first test be, Howard?" Rutherford questioned his son after receiving a positive reply from everyone present.

Yvonne felt like she was standing on pins and needles as she waited for her brother's answer.

'What could he have chosen?' She wondered what her first trial might be as she gazed at him unblinkingly.

Captain Desmo Reel had taught her only three skills, which were horse riding, archery, and sword fighting.

'He promised that he would teach me higher leveled skills if I can clear this assessment.' She recalled the promising words the trainer had given to her before their training began.

This promise only fueled her desire to ace the test in order to improve and increase her skill sets which she knew that she would most certainly need in the future.

'My business and my peaceful life in the future depend upon it!' She clenched her fists and decided that no matter what the test her brother chose for her, she would do her best to succeed.

Captain could discern the light in her eyes, the fire that yearned to gain what she had set her mind to, making his appreciation for her strong-willed nature increase after witnessing this sight.

Yvonne had no clue that she had managed to impress her trainer when all she was doing was preparing herself to face whatever challenge that her brother tossed her way.

'For my future!' She strengthened her resolve to succeed as she looked straight into her brother's eyes.

Howard had been paying close attention to her every expression therefore, there was no way that he could have missed her nervous yet brave face which was now staring at him.

"The first test is… Horse riding!" He announced as that was the easiest of the tests that he had lined up for her.

The anxious look on the child's face faded when she heard his words and in its place was a wide and energetic smile.

'I am going to ace it!' She nodded in acceptance while already thinking of how she would celebrate her first victory.
