Chapter 316 - Embarking On Their Journey

"Mama, I'm sure that she will be fine!" Yvonne reassured her mother who appeared to be uneasy for a few minutes now.

The maid who had "injured" her ankle in the fall was commanded to return to her room where she would rest.

Though Raylene had ordered her maid to rest, she was nonetheless concerned that the injury she sustained would cause her too much pain.

She had already instructed the Butler to call a female physician over to check up on the maid and asked him to make sure that she was fine.

After receiving her instructions, Butler assigned the duty of escorting the injured maid to the two who had helped her up.

Raylene then watched them support her limping maid as they disappeared in the direction of the Servant's quarters.

Only then did she turn towards her family who had been waiting for her all along.

'She is so kind-hearted but that woman…' Yvonne sneered when she thought of the wicked maid who had only pretended to be injured in order to stay behind.

Rutherford did not wish to let his wife out of his sight but he knew that if they did not begin their journey soon they would only be delayed for their journey back.

'The sooner they leave, the sooner they get back.' He surmised and brought his wife and child outside the Mansion.

Upon reaching outside their Mansion, Yvonne's eyes widened at the large carriage which was stationed before them as she had never seen this one before.

A huge black carriage stood before them which was bigger than the carriages they had used before.

The symbol of their family, the three intertwined blue tulips, was visible on the side of the carriage which declared that this vehicle of transport belonged to the St. Claire family.

Four brown horses were strapped to the horse-drawn carriage and a scrawny young coachman was brushing their hair while he waited for his Masters to arrive.

When he caught sight of the Master and his family, he halted and ran forward to bow and greet them.

Yvonne was not concerned about the greeting but was focussing her eyes on the majestic-looking black carriage which had intricate detailing carved onto the wood of the door and the frames of the window.

'Truly stunning!' She commended the craftsmanship of the artisan who must have carved those designs into the wood.

The father caught her mesmerized eyes as she scanned their transportation and pride bloomed in his chest.

"This is the newest carriage that was built in our fief." He announced while leading his wife and child forward.

Raylene's worries for her maid faded by a small portion when she saw the beautiful carriage which was a surprise even for her.

Hugging his child, he glanced at the coachman who opened the door for them.

His daughter was soon placed inside the carriage after which he turned towards his wife.

Yvonne averted her eyes as she scanned the inside of the coach only to find it to be the most luxurious carriage that she had ever seen.

The seat and the cushions made one feel as though they were seated on the couch inside the Mansion.

There was even a table bolted to the floor of the coach to keep it secured and to ensure a comfortable travel experience for its passengers.

The windows were the same, one-sided glass windows that allowed them to view outside but the outsiders couldn't catch a glimpse of those seated inside.

When Yvonne looked out of the same window, she rolled her eyes at the sight before her.

The Butler stood at the side with his head lowered while her parents were in each others' arms.

Clinging to each other were her parents as their lips were sealed in a kiss.

Rutherford so wished that he could accompany them but his piled-up work was the only obstacle in his way.

Therefore, he decided that he would let them visit their son alone this one time but he would go along with them if they ever made such plans in the future.

So when the time came for him to wish them goodbye, he wrapped his arms around his wife and placed a long yet chaste kiss on her lips.

Raylene blushed at her husband's sudden gesture of endearment but she did not resist him.

"We will be back soon so wait for me." She whispered into his ear once they broke the kiss.

Nodding in eagerness, Rutherford pecked her lip once more to seal the deal she made and then hugged her tight.

Inside the carriage, the little girl witnessing this scene scoffed and decided to look through the other window only to find another shocking sight before her.

"Demon!" She exclaimed at the horse whose face was right outside that window.

The etcher nodded and neighed when the window was pushed open by his Master.

He had come over to greet her before she left for the Academy which she appreciated very much.

"Be a good boy while I am gone. Eat and rest on time." She instructed the horse in a righteous tone which made her parents who were observing this scene to chuckle.

Their attention had diverted towards her after they heard her excited voice and smiled when they witnessed this heartwarming scene.

Leaning closer to her pet, Yvonne whispered something into his ear while making it appear as though she was hugging the horse right through the window.

"Make sure you keep an eye on Papa and if you find anything out of the ordinary, report it to me when I get back." She instructed and received a serious nod from him.

The two girls of the St. Claire family had bid their goodbyes which meant that now was the time for them to begin their journey.

Though reluctant, Rutherford helped his wife enter the carriage and also kissed his daughter's head while he was there.

"Vonna, don't trouble your mother too much and Ray, please don't cry too much when you meet Howard." He chided both of the troublesome ladies in his life alike.

The two had similar expressions of annoyance as they harrumphed at his words.

'I am not a child!' They scoffed at his chiding words at the same time in their minds.

A hearty chuckle escaped his lips at observing the looks on their faces and his gloomy mood faded just by a little.

Looking at them once more, he smiled as he shut the door of the carriage and took a few steps away from them.

Soon, the sounds of horses neighing were heard following which the wheels of the carriage began to turn.

This indicated that they would be embarking on their journey now.

Yvonne and Raylene peeked outside the window and waved at the man standing right where he was.

Rutherford smiled and waved his hand until the carriage was no longer visible on the path that led to the gates of their estate.

His gentle demeanor dropped once they had left as his stern and cold attitude took over him.

"The men?" He questioned using just a few words but his Butler had understood what he meant.

"Four of our best men will be guarding Madam and Young Miss from the shadows, Master." He revealed that the task handed over to him have been fulfilled as per the Master's wishes.

Rutherford nodded his head, satisfied with this report.

Just as he was about to turn around, he felt the stern gaze of the horse who stood on the other side of the path.

The two stood facing each other, stuck in a stalemate until it was the horse who decided to turn away and stride in the direction of his stable.

"What a strange etcher!" The Earl scoffed, wondering why his cute daughter had to receive such a huge and odd horse as her etcher.

Butler Limo did not comment but he knew that the etcher was just following his Master, Yvonne's orders of keeping an eye on the Earl.

However, he could not speak of this matter to the Earl so he decided to remain mum about it.

The Master and Butler soon returned to the office where they would have to finish the tasks of looking over the budgets of the new reforms made in their fief.

The Butler also did not forget what the Madam had said and sent for a female physician to take a look at the injured maid who was resting in her room.
