Chapter 382 - A 180 Degree Turn

Yvonne could not believe that her dreams were not thrashed away by her father, in fact, he was giving her another chance to place her plans before him.

'The next time, I will be prepared to answer everything he asks!' She vowed as she walked ahead with vigor and vitality clear as she took each step forward.

Right now, it was just the two siblings with the two maids following after them.

Rutherford had led them outside the door once he had finished his piece and after glancing at the old maid, Mrs. Jacinth, he strode away with his Butler.

This left the two children gaping as they stood in the same place, wondering what had just happened.

They were invited to the office out of nowhere and now they were standing outside the same office, once again, confused and lost.

'He just completed what he had to say and then left.' Yvonne rolled her eyes at her father's back which turned around the corner and disappeared.

"Shall we return to your room, Miss?" Mrs. Jacinth inquired with a gentle smile.

The short glance that their Master had shot at her earlier was to remind her to take excellent care of his lovely daughter.

Though she did not need to be reminded about this, she had nodded at the Master in acceptance of the responsibility he had placed on her head.

Thus, now, she was waiting to hear what the little girl had to say in response to her inquiry.

Just as she had expected, her Young Miss nodded her head in approval of the suggestion that she had made.

'I went straight to practice Piano after lunch and now this meeting has drained my entire energy.' Yvonne groaned as she flexed her neck muscles.

The young boy standing next to her was in equal shock after the events that he had witnessed inside this room.

When he glanced at his sister and saw that she had begun walking away in a certain direction, he ran to keep up with her.

As the maids had longer legs, they walked at a steady pace and maintained an appropriate distance from them as they followed the siblings.

Yvonne's mind continued to circulate the different events, the conversations, subtle confrontations, and even some major revelations that had taken place just earlier.

After this meeting with her father, she was now sure that her assistance was not needed for Howard to become a knight.

The past would not repeat itself as their father had taken it upon himself to help his son live out his dreams.

Thus, the little girl felt like a load had been lifted off her shoulders.

'I can concentrate on my dream in this life.' She smiled that now was the chance for her to think about herself.

She was willing to do whatever it takes to help Howard become a knight but what could she do if someone else was volunteering to accomplish this task for her.

Therefore, she would not be foolish to fight for the excess responsibilities.

Instead, she would let Rutherford work hard for them and she could focus on her growth.

If there ever was a moment that he or Howard needed her help, she would not decline and do her best to support them.

'But before I think about anything else, I have to develop my strategies and plans to perfection so that I never fumble before Papa when he questions me about my business again!' She decided that this would be her task for this next week.

Since classes were dismissed until the end of the 'Festival of Changing Seasons', she need not worry about distributing her attention among different classes.

Her sole attention could be placed on this matter which held great importance to her and her future.

Just as she had come to this conclusion on how her itinerary would be this week, they had reached their first destination.

Though her mind was focused on the matter at hand, her eyes had been attentive and hence she stopped before the door which came first.

Turning around, she smiled at her elder brother and curtsied with a bow.

"I shall take my leave for now, Big Brother. I am sure that you have a lot of contemplation to do after what just happened." She whispered with the same teasing smile that her father had before he escorted them out of his office.

Howard blushed at being teased but her words were right.

He had too much on his mind and he could not deny that he was a little giddy with excitement after the changes that had been made to his future plans.

"En." He nodded in acceptance as his cheeks reddened due to happiness.

However, just as Yvonne was about to turn around and walk ahead in the direction of her room which was around the corner at the end of the corridor, Howard halted her path.

"Why were you not excited when you entered the office?" His unsure voice reached her ears which made her tilt her head in confusion.

Among the numerous questions that filled the little boy's head after this meeting, this one was what he was most curious about.

While he was marveling at the room he had ventured into, she was eating like a starving child who had not touched food for days.

'Is there something special about that room?' Yvonne wondered as she straightened her posture.

She was unaware of the importance of that room and she was also ignorant about the tradition that the patriarchs of the St. Claire's family followed as Rutherford had never mentioned anything about it to her.

Hence, she shrugged her shoulders as though this was a trivial matter and replied to him exactly what she thought about that room.

"Other than the tapestry on the wall, there is nothing else that attracts my attention every time I enter that room." She disclosed her opinions without thinking too much about it.

Having answered his question, the little girl yawned without restraint and chuckled sheepishly when she saw her nanny shaking her head in reprimand.

'Being ladylike is such a pain!' She grumbled but the soft smile on her face was unshaken.

"If there is nothing else, I shall leave now." She informed and without waiting for his answer, she turned around and left.

Watching their Miss leaving, the maids bowed to the Young Master and rushed to follow her as they exited the corridor.

Howard stood rooted in his place, watching the three disappear, and only then did he regain his composure.

"Every time she entered that room?" He muttered the words she had just said.

The implication behind this statement was clear for him to grasp and this thought shocked him.

But that shock soon turned into admiration as a wide grin formed on his face.

His twinkling eyes stared at the end of the corridor where his sister had left in and pride was apparent in his demeanor as he nodded his head.

'My sister is worthy and competent so why can she not enter the office?' He harrumphed and raised his chin, turning around towards his bedroom door.

The King of the land had acknowledged an idea that his sister had thought of, wasn't this proof of just how promising and competent she was?

Therefore, he grinned widely as his heart filled with praise for his sister who had entered the office room before he had.

If this had been before, the young boy would most certainly have accused the girl of using tricks to enter that sacred space.

However, ever since a few months ago, his view of his sister had changed by a vast proportion.

Now, it did not even faze him that his sister had been acknowledged by their father as being worthy of entering the office room.

According to what she had just said, she had been there multiple times which further increased his admiration for her.

"She is my little sister after all. It is a given that she is just as excellent and capable as me." He scoffed at no one particular while boasting about his sister's skills.

If the little girl had been present to witness this scene then she would have raised her brows at the boy who had made a 180 degree turn from how he had treated her the first time they had met.

Nevertheless, she would have been pleased that she did not have to fight and be guarded against him as in her sight, home was where one could be their true self and not have to stay vigilant against each other.

This progress, Yvonne would certainly experience in the future and be pleasantly surprised.
