'Step two completed!' Yvonne rejoiced as only one step was remaining to finish today's main task.
She had already planned it so that today was the day they headed out to the Commercial district without her parents' supervision.
She also managed to shake away her brother and Taylor so all that was remaining was to move to the final step.
Her victorious grin as she walked ahead made the young boy following her fall into deep contemplation.
'What is she planning?' Jax wondered as he could see that she was scheming something.
Whatever it might be, he needed to be careful lest he fails in his task of protecting her.
'The Earl will skin me alive if she's hurt.' He gulped in fear because that scary man was capable of doing this as well.
Jax had been warned about the punishment given to disobedient and unruly servants.
Thinking of the place named Lower Hall that he had heard much about during his stay in the St. Claire Estate, he was not hoping to see it ever in his lifetime.
He was not yet familiar with this place so he followed the little girl who appeared to know where she was going.
Walking around the corner, he found a cafe right before them but his Big Boss did not look at it twice.
"Boss?" He called out when he saw that she had walked past it.
Yvonne halted in her hasty steps and turned around to see that her Butler was pointing at the cafe.
However, she shook her head and lifted her chin in another direction.
Following her indication, Jax found a dingy little cafe at the very end of the street.
"That looks like a…" He muttered but had to stop when he saw that she had begun walking once again.
'I do not have time to waste.' Yvonne hurried as she had to complete the agenda of her escape before her brothers would finish their shopping.
The Master and servant stood outside another cafe at the very end of the street where more commoners frequented than noblemen.
{Willow's}
The name on the door was a familiar one to Yvonne but Jax was ignorant and simply followed her lead.
Holding the door open for her, his mouth salivated when the sweet scent of apples and cinnamon assaulted his nose.
Yvonne felt nostalgic as this was the same cafe that she had visited to buy the apple pies that Asmodeus had written in great detail about in the script.
'The secret date spot of the male and female leads.' She recalled the importance of this place in the journey of the main characters.
However, there were still many years before this spot would gain their patronage.
Once they began frequenting this place, Yvonne would never return.
However, until that time arrived, she had no desire to stay away from the place that served the best pies.
Thus, she had appeared here without any hesitation as this was still a hidden treasure that no noblemen had discovered yet.
'Unless you count Damien.' She scoffed as that boy was the only other nobleman she had seen in this place.
Thinking back to their first meeting, she had assumed that he was a greedy and rude commoner but now she knew that it was false.
'He's just greedy and rude.' She sneered and harrumphed in anger.
Jax had been waiting for her to enter but she only displayed a variety of emotions, expressing her thoughts without moving forward.
From anger and dissatisfaction towards that boy, she was now wondering about his whereabouts as she had not heard a word about him since her return to the Capital.
"Miss?" He whispered to gain her attention, succeeding in snapping her out of her daze.
Yvonne felt irked that she had been worrying about Damien's condition and shook her head fiercely to throw these absurd thoughts out of her mind.
'Why should I care about the boy who asked me not to do something 'stupid'?' She scowled at her own thoughts before striding into the little cafe.
The owner of Willow's was an old widow whom Yvonne had met the last time she was here.
The lady too had recognized this child as she was the only noble child who had entered her cafe until this date.
"Granny, can I get your apple pies?" Yvonne inquired while focusing her greedy gaze on the rack of pies on display.
For once, even Jax was drooling over the sight of the pies which proved that they smelled delectable.
The old lady smiled at the child and nodded before looking at the young boy.
Jax was wearing regular clothes but due to his perfect facial features, he appeared as though he too was the son of some noble family.
"Could you pack five slices please?" Yvonne requested and the owner hurried to pack them up for the well-mannered child.
Jax had received a pouch with money in it so he paid the bill and accepted the large box which held the five slices.
"You don't want to eat here?" He questioned because the pies were in a to-go box.
Yvonne smiled at him mysteriously but did not answer his question.
Her eyes were fixed at the door and just as she had expected, someone entered this cafe.
Jax turned vigilant as he shielded his Master from the man clothed in a dark cloak with a hood that covered him from head to toe.
"Miss, please follow me." The stranger ignored Jax and bowed towards Yvonne as he proposed this.
While Jax was about to make a move, he felt the girl behind him step away and follow this stranger who had appeared out of nowhere.
The owner too was concerned when she saw how the child had been coaxed by this man and had even followed him.
However, she could not leave her cafe unattended and only prayed that the boy with her would keep her safe.
Jax's hands were still holding the box but his feet rushed after his Miss who had left the cafe.
Yvonne looked up at the sky and smiled when she saw a familiar bird circling overhead.
Turning her eyes towards the man standing before a carriage, she glanced at the boy who had reached her spot.
"Climb aboard." She ordered her Butler after she had confirmed the identity of the person whom she had just met.
Jax was confused but before he could object, Yvonne had already accepted the stranger's hand and entered the carriage which left him no choice but to follow.
The door was shut once they were inside and soon the carriage began moving at a steady pace.
'Not as comfortable as mine.' Yvonne surmised that the carriage her father had prepared for her was better than every other carriage that she had ever sat in.
"Boss! What are you doing!?" Jax finally regained his senses and questioned her in a loud voice.
The little girl frowned when she saw how he had just spoken but seeing the worry in his eyes, she held back.
"I know what I am doing." She spoke words of reassurance but they did not help.
They had already entered a carriage without thought but now his eyes were focused on the scenery outside the window.
He was memorizing the path they followed so that he might be able to escort her back safely if something were to happen to them.
Yvonne shook her head as his worries were for naught.
'This was my plan all along.' She sighed but did not disclose her schemes to her newly appointed Butler.
The decision of heading to the Commercial District was for a purpose that she had kept a secret from everyone around her.
Now that she had implemented her plan to perfection, she only needed a few minutes to accomplish her main task before they could head back to the same cafe.
'We'll be back in no time and Howard and Taylor will be none the wiser.' She chuckled as she had thought about everything.
She accompanied her brothers to do their shopping.
She was the one who had suggested that visiting the smith's store for their supplies should be kept for the last as that would take the longest.
This way, she planned that just before they could enter the blacksmith's store, she would pretend to be hungry and separate from the group.
Once she was separated, she only needed to head to the rendezvous spot that she had already confirmed with the one whom she had planned to meet today.
The place decided was the cafe where she had bought the apple pies.
Soon after she met the person who would escort her to her destination and thus, she and her Butler had ended up in this carriage that was leading them to the place of meeting.
'Once I finish my work here, we will be back in no time.' She rubbed her chin as that was the plan of action.
Howard and Taylor will take their time in the blacksmith's store as her elder brother was a sword junkie and liked to be around swords for as long as he could.
This gave her the confidence of sneaking away and returning before they could notice that she had disappeared along with Jax.
"No one hears a word of this." She narrowed her eyes at the Butler who nodded immediately as he too would get in trouble if the others heard about this.
Within a few minutes, the carriage came to a halt and Jax frowned that he had forgotten to memorize the directions at the very end.
While he was still in his thoughts, Yvonne hopped out of the carriage with the help of the same stranger who opened the door for her.
'Beautiful…' She gasped at what was before her.
