The Matriarch led Cole out of his room and out into a hallways that seemed to run circular against a central pillar. The pillar itself seemed to be some sort of elaborate aquarium as all sorts of exotic aquatic life could be seen swimming through and fro within it. It was a beautiful sight, but it still didn't answer a question that popped up for him.
"This place, this facility what is it?" he asked as he watched what he could probably swear was a Spanish man-o-war frolic past him, keeping pace with his movement. It freaked him out if he had to be honest, there was something about the creature that made it seem almost….. Sentient.
His grandmother did not say anything at first, it was almost as if she was deciding whether to say something or not, and that Cole would care what she had to tell him, but it seems as if this place has a lot more importance than he originally thought. She shrugged and decided to speak.
"There is no use keeping it a secret from you anyways, this place will belong to you eventually, and with the advent of this system that you've told me about, I do believe having all the cards in hand and all information available to you would be in our best interest. This is a facility yes, a bio engineering facility where the D.N.A of multiple living organisms are spliced, combined, extracted, attached and forged from the ground up in order to achieve two separate goals."
Cole turned to look at her with a horrified look on his face. If he was expecting something then definitely this was not one of it. He was standing in a scene from a freaking horror movie, hell this is the part where all these things would break out and turn on their creators. He stepped up to her his voice a furious whisper.
"Please tell me for all that is holy and sacred in this world Oba Sama, what could possibly possess you to go a make a fucking modern Jurassic park! I get that you have a lot of money and you have absolutely no idea what to do with it but this? You're literally the stereotypical villain with all the power and her hands in all the wrong cookie jars. You're older than me, haven't you seen Jurassic park! Or Anaconda or that creepy movie splice?"
"As a matter of fact I have seen all those movies Cole, but you can never have too much power…. Or too much money. Plus life will continue to advance, the very foundation of humanity is our ability to push through the boundaries of what is accepted as normal and take it all the way to the next level.
Think about it…. You will be creating your own Pokémon. We can bring back extinct species, and yes that includes the dinosaurs, hell we can even make dragons of our own. You say that we would be invaded by other realities who already have established power and authority of their own, with this you can level the playing field."
Cole blinked his eyes a few times, he almost forgot that his grandmother was Japanese. But that was beside the point, this was doing too much and going a little bit too far with the power she had available to her. Perhaps he was now seeing a hint into her true character and the reason why his grandfather could never bring himself to love her.
She was ambitious, and she was greedy. But Cole had to admit that she was through it all a visionary. He knew for a fact that she would never have done something like this if she did not know that it would succeed. So perhaps it was not too farfetched what she was saying and it was more than just a passing flight of fancy.
"We already have too many things on our plate to deal with. Also this can go wrong, history has let us know how messing with biology has turned out. And even if the same history says Ebola and the corona virus came about because of mother nature deciding to give us a very big fuck you, I still think people meddle in things they were not supposed to… this is madness." But even as he spoke Cole doubted he convinced his grandmother.
"The research being done here have come up with a variety of ways to manage if not out rightly eliminate most human diseases. Plus the idea of creating new species is just the base of all our plans. Some of these species can have AI algorithms transplanted into their nervous system, giving many of the artificial intelligence in existence today a body to truly work with and serve their masters.
Plus even if you want to ignore the health benefits, many of the species being genetically designed here are being done so for the sake of terraforming. There are many planets out in the cosmos where human life cannot be supported without extensive years of terraforming. We can seed these worlds with these creatures, and let nature take its course as they would adapt to the environment or the environment would adapt to them.
Making more resources available to humanity as a whole. Plus you have said we should probably expect a war, Cole where would you get your army from. Because from what you have told me the invaders won't all be fighting, they would have people amongst the humans in our universe who will side with them and cause enough chaos to destabilize our society and take over without so much as breaking a sweat.
With this research you can literally grow your own army and do one better…. Create an army that can't be beaten. I am not long for this world grandson, so I will be as honest with you as possible in regards to this project. I have no intention of stopping it, it was my father's life's work and his fathers before him. I'm hoping you will see it through to the end, especially with the advent of the system. Now come along, we cannot dally here much longer, I do believe Morgan should have a debrief for you." She said as she walked past him, moving fast enough that Cole almost wondered if she really was an old woman.
[Master Cole, you uncle and his children have been located somewhere off the coast of Barbados. They had secretly purchased an island there three years back and kept the records secret and separate by using an isolated network separate from the family's. While the rest of us did not know, the Master was aware and kept the records in a secure server…. The Matriarch gave me access to that Server.]
"So what are you saying? After killing my brothers they packed up and went on a Vacation?" Cole asked, his voice vibrating like two steel blades clashing against each other.
[I am not sure sir, however based on satellite imagine and the chance acquisition of a couple of shipping manifest dated a few days ago. There is a significant armed forces stationed on the island with more of them arriving each day. Two of the arrivals I believe have ties with the space pirates the Matriarch had dealings with, while the others I believe and both on and off world mercenaries and assassins. They are preparing for conflict master Cole…. It would not be easy taking them in.]
"Nothing in this life is ever easy Morgan, is there anything else that we need to know about?" Cole asked as they came up to an elevator where the guard who had been sent from Sierra corp was waiting.
[I do believe that the Master is now on his way to the island right now, and apart from the pilot of his jet, he has no backup or security detail with him. It is unclear to me his reason for doing such, and due to that I am unable to calculate if he is in danger or whether he is working in partnership with them. But be that as it may sir, I do believe we will be finding out soon enough. Is there anything else you could possibly require of me sir any calls to make?]
"Not all Morgan, just keep an eye and ear out from strange chatter and things. Also keep me posted on the happenings of the event. Taking care of the trash would take a significant amount of my time and I don't want to be too far out of the loop by the time I return."
[Yes sir, it will be as you say. By your leave Master Cole.]
With a dull tone, Morgan's voice disappeared from the back of Cole's head as the elevator began to rise up. Cole had no idea how many floors up them had to get past before getting to the pad on top of the building, but it gave him enough time to think and brood….. Enough to plot and get himself in the right frame of mind….. Because he was going to kill.
