The area that they had holed yup was actually a fish packaging factory or plant, honestly Cole could not really tell why such a building would be within such a massive indoor city. He'd at least expect that such a building would have been placed outside where the smell would not have been a bother to society.
But instead the place was an absolute fortress with massive steel and pure concrete walls. It was built in such a way to keep the smell contained as it is transported via massive waste chutes big enough to have massive trucks drive through. It was a fortified location that gave them access to this particular floor, and any others. So in a manner of speaking it was a forward base for mercenaries any time they scavenged this tower.
Never the less it was these massive chutes that would lead them out of the building. It was infested with its own fair share of zombies, but it was also the safest and most direct route to the ground and out of the tower. Of course the journey down would not be easy as The Wolves as they have taken to calling themselves had lost 8 members of their mercenary group just to get here,
That did not instill any sense of confidence in Cole, even with the explanation they were given about the losses being due to a careless moment by none other than Marshal the trigger happy idiot. Maybe Cole should have just let him bleed out as having that kind of person around would most definitely hurt his chances. It would be a repeat of having to deal with an idiot like he's been doing with what's his name on the first, second and third floor.
He's hands were a little tied right now, but if Cole would have his way, it would be better if that guy was taken out of the picture right now before he becomes a more annoying threat in the future. Cole did not believe in leaving loose ends. If you did not deal with things like these they are almost guaranteed to come back and bite you in the ass.
He shook his head as he paid attention to what was in front of him. The packaging or would the proper word be Canning? Well this fishy place while fortified was unnecessarily big. It too them a good twenty five minutes to move from one end of the factory to another, and they were driving. Never the less their entire trip has been pretty much silent and Cole would not be the one to break said silence, but he did not have to worry too long about that as a massive metallic groan was heard behind them, and all of a sudden an earthquake ensued.
The truck that they were in screeched to a halt as the Mercenary leader turned to him and in a tone that brooked no argument said to him; "Get the fuck out!" he gave no argument as he jumped out of the truck he was in, finding it easier to find his footing and balance as opposed to everyone else. He noticed that they were all keeping Close to the trucks but had their vigilance up, looking left and right and especially up into the gloom that was the ceiling of the factory.
It was in that moment Cole realized and understood just what the fuck was going on. The entire building, it was leaning, or rather it would be better to say that it was falling. But it wasn't just by itself, while beams and chunks of concrete rained from the air, Cole saw an abomination…. For that was the only word he could use to describe the writhing mass of flesh and tentacles, and multiple mouths, all on a body that was the size of the empire state building... okay maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration.
If he had to be more precise it was the size of a cruise ship in the real world. It was so huge that Cole had no idea where it began and where it ended. And the part of its body that was seen seemed to be moving through the building, burrowing deeper into it. Cole did not even think it was possible for a creature of such abominable mass to be able to move, but it was moving and it was moving rapidly.
"What the hell is that thing?" Cole asked out loud, but he was getting no response as right in front of him a massive beam had fallen from the sky to smash into one of the other mercenaries. He would have seen it coming too, but with that massive thing moving every single thing was unstable, so it was a visceral scene as a 4 meter long and half a meter wide beam smashed him into a very ugly paste.
Cole idly heard somebody call the name of the dead guy, and even more he saw said dead guy's soul screaming in rage as his soul was sucked upwards, right into one of the many mouths on the monstrosity above them…..this literally was scene straight out of a horror movie, they were all dying because Cthulhu decided it wanted to take a little stroll around the block.
In his opinion staying here would not help matters, it was better to keep moving so as to escape the range of movement of the abomination/ Cthulhu wanabe. He turned to the leader about to speak to her when she slammed a hand over his, mouth and pushed him to the ground. Then she began to whisper furiously at him.
"Don't fucking move! That thing senses movement of even the tiniest magnitude, it's why we stepped out of the car so stop!" she never got to finish what she was saying as the massive girth of the creature seemed to fall down from the sky. Cole felt the danger coming before it arrived, and his instincts took over as he grabbed her and immediately used [Shadow Dance] their form melting into the shadows as dozens of tentacles with smaller mouth attached to them sashed into the area their bodies once occupied.
They appeared some ways away as Cole turned around to observe the ruined heap of the truck they had been driving in. the rest of the mercenary group were still standing absolutely still as each and every single one of them could do nothing but wait with baited breaths and pounding hearts. Cole had saved their leader and it had not been a movement but a teleportation, but even that seemed to have triggered the monster as it sent more tentacles smashing down on their location.
Cole observed and realized that even if he kept using [Shadow Dance] to save their lives, the rest of the mercenaries who were still stuck in a single place would be caught in the crossfire. Not that he should give a shit but he had already paid the money that was required to transport him to fucking safety, he was not going to let his investment go down the drain especially when he had absolutely no idea which direction to move in.
[Shadow Dance]
Took him a little further away from the group of mercenaries as Cole made as much noise as possible. It was mistake as the creature seemed to react even more violently. Its massive body began to fall from the sky. It was obvious that it was now going all out in its attempt to destroy Cole, and in return now it wanted to destroy everything.
Normally this would not have been a problem, but this creature was massive, Cole was not even able to see it end and beginning and now it was dropping all or at least most of that extremely large amount of space upon them, and none of Cole's movement skills were strong enough to give him greater range, he would also not be able to bring anybody else along as it would take everything he had to be able to escape the horror that was coming.
He ran, his body blurring as he utilized [Spectral Rover] and pushed that very skill to the limit, burning every last shred of energy in his body as he ran for his life. But even with all the speed and all of the skills, the shadow over his head continued to grow bigger and bigger and the hand of death drew ever closer. But unlike his previous brushed with death, this time Cole was not so sure he would be able to make it out, because he was being slowed down by one irrefutable fact... he was still dragging the mercenary leader along.
