Chapter 15 - Gold Digger

Ling Yue introduced herself and Chen Liang to an old man standing at the door. Then a servant appeared and invited them in to wait in the living room.

After a while, the old man appeared with a woman. She looked friendly. Her smiled was full of warmth that reminded Ling Yue of her aunt, Ling Mei.

"Oh I have been waiting for your arrival for a long time. I almost lost hope after not getting any news from your office," she seemed relieved.

Chen Liang became awkward. He signaled to Ling Yue to speak further. "Hello Mrs. Wang, I'm Ling Yue, who just took over your case ..." Ling Yue asked her what she wanted to know and Mrs. Wang gladly answered.

She brought them visited the polluted farm not far from the King Empire's factory. The river that runs through their land stained and smelly. They made detour and back to Mrs. Wang's house after Ling Yue took several photos.

"Very well, Mrs. Wang. I will try my best to solve it."

Mrs.Wang nodded. "I hope I can get the results soon. People in this village haven't been able to work on the land for almost a month." said Mrs. Wang sadly.

Ling Yue nodded and said goodbye. Mrs. Wang saw their car slowly move away, shrinking until they could no longer be seen. Mrs.Wang deep in thought and looked at her butler, with sparkling eyes. "Somehow my instincts say that I will win this case!"

Inside the car, Cheng Liang shook his head. "So you are going to proceed this case? I thought you want to make her withdraw her demands."

Ling Yue made some notes in her little book. "At first I did not think anything. But based on observations and evidence that Mrs. Wang gave. I think I can win this case," She said casually.

Chen Liang narrowed. "You trust her too much. Be careful. It can stab and kill without you knowing."

"Don't worry. I never trusted my clients until they prove themselves could be trusted." Ling Yue smiled. Besides, her hunchs said that Mrs. Wang was not a bad person. And that hunch had helped her solve a numerious case before.

Ling Yue made some notes in her little book and called her assistant who had previously appointed for her by Du Zhuang.

Two days later, Ling Yue came to King Empire.

the receptionist asked her to wait in the meeting room. Ling Yue pulled out her files and pen between her waiting. The company's lawyers were from the best law firms in the country, thus arrogant and haughty attitude could be seen when one of them entered the room. A woman followed behind him holding a tray of drinks. She served their drinks and leaved.

"I'm An Ruan. I don't have much time. What do you want Miss...?" he said while stirred his coffee.

"My name is Ling Yue. I'm a new lawyer for Mrs. Wang and came to discuss the case, Mr.An," Ling Yue answered politely.

As if remembered something, he stopped his action. "I think the case was closed two weeks ago. We offered Mrs. Wang some money."

"You know the demands made by Mrs. Wang are not only about money." she replied.

The man's mouth twitched. "King Empire has offered a fantastic amount of money for that old woman to keep her mouth shut. But she still asks this big company to apologize publicly and relocate our factory. Do you think they have time to serve this unimportant affair?" He took a sip of his coffee and murmured, "Such a gold digger."

"Pardon?" Ling Yue stared at him.

He put down his cup and continued, "What else we call such thing if's not it? It was really not just because of money? How about this, we will increase the money but you need to make that woman back off. "

Ling Yue finally realized something. "So, all the thing about company's land was not true?" A smiled bloomed on her face. The man shrugged.

"Let's resolve this peacefully. If you want, I'll asked my superior and give you a part."

"Oh I'm sorry, I'm not interested." Ling Yue finished her drink and ready to go. She knew the lawyer like him wouldn't want to back down, rather Ling Yue had ended the meeting and decide to met the owner of this company, in person.

That man chuckled. "Don't be shy! I know people like you, who seem righteous but rotten inside."

"Don't compare me to you. It's an insult." Ling Yue retorted back.

His smiled vanished. "Who do you think you are?! An anonymous lawyer dares say that to me?" An Ruan never heard a lawyer named Ling Yue. The woman in front of him, with bangs and odd glasses, was very brave came to this multibillion-dollar company, challenged him. "You are a gold digger to, right?"

Ling Yue suddenly felt her blood boil. "With all due respect Mr. An, I can sue you for slandering."
