19 The Iceborne

The small group was exhausted. For the past few days, they had gone through a lot of stress. Never able to relax would take a toll even on the toughest of men. As it did.

Since now there were 2 experts among their group giving off powerful auras they didn't see a single beast on their way back. Jay didn't hide his because of his exhaustion and Geralt didn't know how to control his aura as he had only just obtained it.

As the 5 survivors got into the city they were met with a busy town. There were a bunch of people working on what seemed like mid-grade houses that were being constructed in the places of the low-grade houses. Additionally, they could see that the main road was laid with stone, an action he suggested architect Gariel to take.

Just as he was nearing the marketplace he could see architect Gariel making a new blueprint, in order to get the blueprint of it. When he looked turned around Jay was just a meter or so away from him.

"My Liege, I am glad you have returned. We are busy upgrading the current low-grade houses and I am working on a siege weapon. I hope I have performed satisfactorily."

Jay nodded before looking around some more. He was still a little worried, at this point they should have well over 50 people due to the daily increase. Yet he had only seen about 30 people when he walked in, multiple of which were miners.

"It seems to be going well, where is General Green?"

He didn't give an overly positive reply since he didn't really know what had happened while he left. If he had done the job well he could always reward him later.

After hearing the General was in the barracks, he quickly made his way there surprised by a feeling he felt. It seemed like when he was gone, General Green had awakened sword intent as well, placing his pure strength just below Geralt. Obviously General Green would be stronger in a fight, after all, he had a lot more experience.

When he entered, he saw General Green and 2 new D grade Generals talking with each other with a map in between them. Reminded of the first mission he had done in this life he promptly walked up to them.

"My lord, you have returned!"

Seeing Jay walked in the General as well as the 2 new talents promptly kneeled.

Shortly after he had a general idea of the situation. It seemed that one of the miners had spotted a valuable magic lightstone mine further up the mountains. However, when they started mining the resource they were promptly attacked by a small group of Iceborn.

They managed to kill that group but ever since the 2 groups had had a multitude of skirmishes. Both groups winning and losing some.

The Iceborne were an intelligent race. Their faces looked similar to those of polar bears, with different colors of fur depending on their bloodline.

Usually, they walked on 2 feet with clothes on but when they hurried they ran more like how wild beasts would run.

Hearing how everything went on Jay was both glad and disappointed. He was glad that the General didn't hesitate to fight for these valuable resources yet he was heavily disappointed by how basic their attack method was.

It seemed that at best they attacked the resource point from a different angle, they didn't even know how many Iceborne there were. Nor did they know where their base was, these were both pieces of information that could not be missing.

"I am disappointed in the lack of thought you have shown for our future. You decided to continue playing cat and mouse without any information on our enemies. You haven't even mapped their base despite losing nearly 2 dozen soldiers.

"As punishment, I will name Geralt the new main Commander, you will be demoted to Second-Commander. I sincerely you will not act this idiotic again."

After saying these words Green knelt further putting his head on the floor asking for the Lord's forgiveness.

Unmoved by this display of loyalty, Jay started giving out orders. For the time being General Green would act as his bodyguard remaining by his side whenever he wasn't in the city, acting like a Drill Sergeant when he was. He hoped that this way he could teach him the intricacies of war.

Before making any military moves he gave some items to some of the town's craftsmen. he gave the highest grade blacksmith they currently had, a woman named Adriell who currently had a D+ rank despite starting out as an F+, the Great Blacksmith manual.

When this was soulbound to her she immediately managed to reach B rank. This would mean she would be able to make F+ rank weapons, and if she got lucky she would be able to make an E grade weapon.

Other then this, Miss Evergreen was given the first tier golem manual and the Earth and Ice beast elemental cores. It actually looked like she had almost finished her first golem making this gift come at an extremely convenient time. This was because the first tier golem manual showed how to implement a magical beast elemental core into a golem.

After doing all this, Jay started preparing for the war. The first step was gathering information, and since he got a basic talent with Spy C grade he naturally got excited.

After sending the spy out to find out where the Iceborne take their lightstones he went to his magic tower, after all, he had 1 reward left unused: The packet he had gotten from the mighty General.

After getting to his study and putting the mana crystals on the shelf, he took out the package he had gotten. The package was pretty small yet it released an odd kind of pressure. After opening it up he was ecstatic, it was an unmarked Lord's seal. An item like this was extremely important for politics.

When you would use this seal on a letter it would also copy his mana-waves. This not only would show the general magical strength of the lord but it would also make officials letters utterly impossible to copy.

After safely storing this item, he went to sleep. After all, it seemed like tomorrow he would meet the Iceborne.
