Falling Asleep (1)

Lu Nan’s words were hard to refute.

What’s more, this was originally part of Lin Yu He’s job. He signed the agreement and couldn’t go back on his word.

All he could do was agree to the other party’s proposal.

The master bedroom was located on the other side of the living room. As Lin Yu He was walking over with Lu Nan, he kept looking back at the guest room every few steps. It wasn’t until he entered the master bedroom that his other thoughts flew out of his head.

The master bedroom was very homey, dominated by warm tones of light apricot and brown maroon. However, Lin Yu He’s focus was on the bed, and he disregarded the other parts of the room.

What made Lin Yu He sigh in relief was that the bed in the master bedroom was very large. Four or five people could fit on it, let alone two, and they would not feel cramped.

Lin Yu He had not slept in the same bed as others for a very long time. He doesn’t know how he sleeps, but typically he never pushed around the quilts in the dormitory. Now, seeing that there was so much room on the bed, he was able to relax.

He quickly corrected his thoughts, convincing himself that it was just sleeping and would be no big deal.

In the past, when he went out with his roommates, they would also sleep together, and except for Zhen Ling complaining that Lin Yu He’s feet were too cold and woke him up, there had never been any issues.

He also saw Lu Nan taking out two quilts from the closet. This was so much better than the worst situation that Lin Yu He had been imagining. Although they were spending the night together, it didn’t seem to have much impact at all.

“If there is only one quilt, then you might not wrap it tightly enough and get cold,” Lu Nan said.

Lin Yu He nodded, feeling that he had over-thought the situation.

Nobody was left in the house, as Auntie and the part-time workers had left after they were finished with their duties. Even Fang Musen wasn’t there, as they were told to not disturb the developing relationship between the two, so things like laying down the quilt were done by Lu Nan himself.

The man changed into a nightgown, soft fabric showing the outline of his body. With every movement, his long arms stretched and the outline of the shoulders on his muscles moved, displaying wide shoulders and a narrow waist.

Lin Yu He glanced at the man’s firm, reliable back, and couldn’t help feeling a little lost.

When he had returned to his senses, Lu Nan had already put the quilts down.

Lin Yu He looked and realised that the two quilts were not as far apart as he had imagined, but that the edge of one of the quilts were pressed on top of the other, and the two quilts had a long overlapping line.

While he was thinking, he heard Lu Nan’s asking, “I am going to wake up early tomorrow. What time will you wake up?”

Hearing the man talk about getting up early, Lin Yu He didn’t want to drag on the conversation any longer, afraid of preventing the other from his rest. He replied, “I have no classes tomorrow, so I’ll just get up by myself.”

Lu Nan nodded. “Okay.”

Lin Yu He had already washed up, but headed to the bathroom again. When he returned, there was still some damp water vapour on his hands.

The man was sitting by the bed, scrolling through his tablet. Even the warm light in the bedroom could not add softness to his form. The man’s expression was still stern, but when he raised his eyes to look at Lin Yu He, his voice softened.

“Drink some water.”

There was a glass of warm water at the head of the bed with a straw inside. Lin Yu He finished the water and placed the cup down. Before the man could ask, he said, “I already put on the lip balm.”

The coat of lip balm was very thick, withstanding inspection, and did not require the supervisor to do it himself.

His attitude was so positive and self-conscious that Lu Nan kept staring at him for a while.

Lin Yu He felt that he could see through him, but in the end the man didn’t say anything, instead motioning for him to go to sleep.

Lin Yu He walked over, pulled away the quilt and laid down.

The pyjamas were soft and thick, very comfortable to wear. The quilt was also light and warm, making it very cosy to sleep in.

As soon as Lin Yu He laid down, he heard Lu Nan say, “Hand.”

Lin Yu He stretched out his hand, and the man grabbed his palm while still sitting.

The touch was warm, not as cold as before.

Lin Yu He said, “I soaked my hands in hot water for a bit, so they’re not cold anymore.”

The man turned his back to the light so that his face was heavily shadowed and his expression could not be seen clearly. After a moment of silence, he replied, “What about your feet?”

Lin Yu He said, “I also soaked it, it’s much warmer.”

Soaking in hot water was a great way to quickly raise your body temperature, but it didn’t always last long. He had tried soaking his feet in hot water before sleeping in the past, but they would only be warm for a short while, and would end up as cold as it was before.

But in today’s case, just this small amount of time would be enough.

Lin Yu He waited nervously for the verdict, but Lu Nan didn’t say anything in the end, except “go to sleep.”

After the lights were turned off and the man beside him lay down, Lin Yu He finally breathed a sigh of relief in the dark.

Lucky.

Although he may have over-thought it, Lin Yu He had been very worried that Mr. Lu would come up with some idea to warm his hands, so he couldn’t really fall asleep.

Now that the room was finally quiet, and there was a little distance in between that they could sleep on their own quilts, Lin Yu He could feel himself relaxing.

The environment was silent and Lin Yu He closed his eyes.

He could recognise unfamiliar beds, and so it was difficult to sleep well in an unfamiliar environment, but the man lying not far from him was giving off the faint scent of wood, and it helped him relax.

Lin Yu He would sometimes put an ebony box beside his pillow and fall asleep to the scent of wood. He was used to the scent; it helped him find a sense of security in a new environment.
