Episode 11 – Barbecue Party
Ahmed was laughing up a storm, her entire body covered in blood from head to toe. Next to her was a gigantic monster, about three meters long, completely lifeless.
No way… did Ahmed do that to the monster?
“Ooh! Lewin and Smash! You guys came back at just the right time. We’ve got dinner, guys!” (Ahmed)
“Ah, Ahmed-san. Are you injured at all?” (Lewin)
“Me? Injured? Hahaha! This is all their blood. Such a lame mountain monster would never be able to hurt me. Geez… I was sleeping so comfortably when this dumbass bear woke me up.” (Ahmed)
Grumbling in a frustrated tone, Ahmed kicked the monster’s corpse with a loud thud, causing blood to spill out from the monster’s mouth.
“Hey! Dion and Smash, go ahead and drain the blood from it so we can eat some meat tonight! I’m going to go wash the blood off of my body.” (Ahmed)
And with that, Ahmed was off the scenes. My feet were rooted where I stood, totally shocked by this abrupt turn of events.
“Lewin, by the end of these four days, you’ll get used to it. With Elisa around, absurd occurrences like this happen every day.” (Smash)
“Ahmed-san’s way of defeating monsters is so crude. All this time, I’ve never been able to get used to it.” (Dion)
“Oh, there’s Dion.” (Smash)
“I was hiding a little since the battle started. I wouldn’t stand a single chance if I got caught up in Ahmed-san’s attacks after all… Well, let’s handle the processing for this thing and then return.” (Dion)
“I’ll help you out too.” (Lewin)
I didn’t really want to help out with processing the carcass, but I also didn’t really want to be left here alone with Ahmed… so I ended up offering to help them out. Dion and Smash told me that I could just take it easy and rest, but, due to the sheer size of it, in the end I was forced to help them with draining blood and dismantling.
Surprisingly, the grotesque carcass yielded some pretty decent looking meat after dismantling.
…Actually, it looked mouth-wateringly delicious.
“What’s this monster called?” (Lewin)
“It’s called an Anchor Bear. Among its species, this one would probably be considered one of the biggest…. But for Ahmed-san, she still killed it in one hit.” (Dion)
“Slaughtering such a massive monster in one hit… As usual, she’s the real monster here.” (Lewin)
“Yup, that’s a pretty fitting way to put it. Although, taking into account her excessively wild temper, she would be a beast, not a monster.” (Dion)
A beast, huh. Certainly, Ahmed did have a lot of beast-like parts about her. The way she lived by her instincts was exactly like a carnivorous beast.
Since it was a pretty big monster, it yielded quite a lot of meat, but they said it would be gone in just two days. I had heard that Ahmed had an appetite that defied logic and could eat dozens of kilos of meat in a single sitting. She probably expended a lot of energy just being herself, huh. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had those ridiculous body proportions after all.
“Oii! I smell something good! You guys already started barbecuing the meat?” (Ahmed)
After the dismantling work, we immediately started barbecuing the meat. Soon after, Ahmed was lured over by the smell. Grabbing the barbecued meat off the grill with her bare hands, she began stuffing her mouth.
“Mmmmm, it’s so good!! Meat is the best!!!” (Ahmed)
“We prepared a separate grill just for you, so hold on just a moment. That meat just now was for Lewin-kun, who actually helped us out, you know?” (Dion)
“Ahhh?” (Ahmed)
“No, no, it’s okay! Ahmed-san was the one who got us the meat after all, right?” (Lewin)
“Oh? See, Lewin understands me! I’ll feed you my meat, so come here!” (Ahmed)
Ahmed had a sharp expression for a moment, but her mood suddenly became good-natured as she picked me up and carried me under her arm over to her personal grill. Putting me down roughly, she tossed a ton of charcoal into the roasting machine to raise the heat and proceeded to heartily toss a crazy amount of meat onto the grill. A massive pillar of fire rose up from the corresponding amount of meat juice falling into the fire, burning the meat into a crisp immediately, but Ahmed was still looking over at me with sparkling eyes.
“Hey look, it cooked instantly! It’s only a little burnt but… Mmm, delicious!! Lewin, eat up, eat up! It’s better when it’s crunchy!”
Just like this, I hung out with Ahmed as she treated me to a barbecue feast. She could be scary and unreasonable at times, but there were those kinds of people in the Healer’s Guild, too. Yet, I didn’t feel any of the repugnance I felt for those people for her. Not to mention, Dion and Smash were also genuinely kind people.
…It had truly been a long, long time since I had had such a fun and fulfilling day.
