Episode 138 – Get-Well Gift
TL: Sponsored chapter (1/1)
Seeing Kirty fidget bashfully made me feel pretty nostalgic. Back when we had met for the first time, she was like this throughout the entire encounter because of the way things played out.
“So you came to visit me… Thank you. I wasn’t injured or anything, so I’m fine.” (Lewin)
Kirty looked relieved when I told her that. Perhaps… when she didn’t get any response after she had been knocking for so long, she might have assumed the worst had happened and forcefully entered the room because she had no choice.
“……..I see. That’s good then. I was worried you might have been gravely wounded back when I saw you in Seykoll.” (Kirty)
All the people around me now are so kind…
“I brought a Recovery Potion just in case, but it looks like you won’t be needing it, huh?” (Kirty)
“I’m not injured anywhere so I’m good. Umm… since you brought it anyway, you don’t mind if I have it, do you?” (Lewin)
“Yeah, of course. Here you go. Actually, this Recovery Potion is a high quality potion made by a skilled Medicine Master at a shop named Elf’s Tears.” (Kirty)
Oohh! To hear the name ‘Elf’s Tears’ come out of Kirty’s mouth… As expected, that grandma’s shop was famous only to those in the know. The effects and taste of the potions were both outstanding, so I suppose you could say it was no surprise.
After Kirty handed me the Recovery Potion, I immediately opened it and took a sip to show my appreciation. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that the potion was filled with Kirty’s kindness, but this potion tasted so much better than the usual potions from Elf’s Tears that I was so used to drinking.
I mean, because I was helping out at Elf’s Tears, I actually knew a thing or two about this Recovery Potion. And most likely… this was actually a Top-grade Recovery Potion.
I opened it and drank it on the spot because I was so happy that Kirty bought it for me, but the moment I tasted it, I broke out into a cold sweat when I realized that this was no ordinary Recovery Potion.
“….It’s very delicious and all, but isn’t this a Top-grade Recovery Potion?” (Lewin)
When I asked her that, Kirty looked very surprised. From this reaction, it was pretty obvious that it really was a Top-grade Recovery Potion after all. I wasn’t injured or anything, so personally speaking, I felt a bit bad for accepting it.
“How did you know, Lewin?! By any chance, have you had it before?” (Kirty)
“No, this is my first time drinking it. But since I’ve been helping out at Elf’s Tears, I’m familiar with the potions.” (Lewin)
“Eh?! Lewin, you’ve been working at that store?” (Kirty)
“Huh…? Did I not mention that before? In my afternoon free time, I’ve been helping out at Elf’s Tears. My previous job was at the Healer’s Guild, so through that connection I’ve been working there.” (Lewin)
“No no, this is my first time hearing about it, you know?! Mmm… There are so many things I want to ask, but… maybe I should save it for another day. First, I should report to you what happened in Seykoll afterwards.” (Kirty)
Whenever I was with Kirty, we would basically only talk about swordsmanship or combat-related topics, so I apparently hadn’t told her that I had been helping out at Elf’s Tears. She must have thought that I was intentionally keeping her in the dark about it as she was currently looking at me with slightly reproachful eyes. Although she looked a bit unsatisfied, she began telling me about what had happened after we left the city.
“After you left, I made sure to escort the little girl you rescued and her mother to safety. Then, the monsters in the city of Seykoll were all defeated, the city was taken back, and order was restored. All of the monsters on the outside of the city were also successfully taken care of.” (Kirty)
“I see. But… in the end, the damage was still done.” (Lewin)
“That’s… true I guess. I’m sure you saw it too, but they did quite a bit of damage even before we arrived. But still, given that the monsters managed to get into the city, I’d say that the damage that occurred was the least amount imaginable.” (Kirty)
When I heard Kirty say that, my chest felt a bit pained. It was my first time experiencing such horrific damage done right in front of my eyes. I couldn’t stop thinking that if I had arrived even a little bit sooner, I could have helped save more people. My feelings of remorse were alleviated a little by Kirty’s words… But after this incident, I found myself wishing for more power so I could save as many people as possible in the future.
All this time, I had just been training myself with the vague aspiration of catching up to Ahmed in my mind, but now I had a single goal in mind.
