Episode 178 – Dungeon Specific Plants
After putting aside the products from the Perfect Circle General Store, I picked up a plant that I had purchased at Green Formula.
Let’s start with the high-level plants that I’ve already appraised before.
The Medical Herbs, Magical Grass, Antidote Herbs, etc. had bonus effects attached.
First up is this All-Herb…
[Name: All-Herb]
[Level: 58]
[Effect: Healing (Medium), Self-Healing Power Increase (Medium), Fatigue Recovery (Medium), Mental Stability (Medium), Abnormal Status Recovery (Medium)]
Out of all the plants I had bought today, this All-Herb had the highest level effects. Considering the fact that the effects of the All-Herb that could be gathered on Mount Cornello were limited to only having Abnormal Status Recovery (Medium) or (Large), this particular All-Herb’s effects made it seem like an entirely different plant species altogether. Unlike that high-level Medical Herb from earlier, it didn’t have the drawback of having Drowsiness (Medium) among the effects, so it was truly an all-purpose plant that could even surpass potions in the role it could play.
I grinned as I held the All-Herb up and examined it from different angles. When I was done looking at it, I picked up the Angel Grass next. That All-Herb was amazing, but this Angel Grass was amazing in a different way.
[Name: Angel Grass]
[Level: 54]
[Effect: Poison (Large), Paralysis (Medium), Convulsions (Medium), Psychosis (Medium), Breathing Restriction (Medium), Physical Strength Decrease (Medium), Hallucination (Medium)]
[Fertility: ???]
[Origin: Dungeon (Landaust)]
I almost didn’t want to appraise it with how deadly of an aura this Angel Grass was giving off. I felt like it could cause me problems from just looking at it. This one stalk of Angel Grass was probably more potent than the Poison Potion that I used against the Venom Troll. To be honest, I had hesitated a bit, wondering if I should buy it or not because I was afraid some kind of accident would happen. But in the end, there was no way I was willing to pass up a plant with such great effects. If I put it in a Slime bottle and handled it with great care, then it had the potential of becoming a powerful item.
I carefully put the Angel Grass back in the bag and then continued to check on the other plants.
After I finished going through all the appraised plants that I had purchased, the two that had left the biggest impact on me were probably still that All-Herb and Angel Grass. Of course, there were some Bomb Grass and Linrin Weed that had high efficacy, but they still weren’t as good as those two.
At any rate, what I found out by appraising the Dungeon-exclusive plants was that it was pretty much gambling. It would be easy to make some profit by going to Green Formula and buying up all the plants with great effects, but most of the plants being sold there were of low or negative levels. It took me several hours of going around and appraising plants to finally find a high-level plant, so the quantity that I could procure at any given time was pretty uncertain.
The efficiency of earning money was heavily linked to how strong you were, since you could discover drops and treasure chests in the Dungeon while hunting for monsters and even find high-level plants.
These were my impressions on Green Formula… For now, it was probably best to go about once a month to look for high-level plants. With that kind of cycle, I would probably be able to stock up on good plants, and more importantly, it was a lot of fun to look around and appraise things. It felt a lot like going on a treasure hunt. When I found that Level 58 All-Herb, I was so happy I thought I could die.
Recalling that excitement, I turned to look at the unappraised plants. I bought a total of 15 different kinds today, all of which I had never heard of before. With the exception of a few, the price wasn’t that high, so I wasn’t expecting too much from them. Nonetheless, I would be swallowing each one and appraising them.
First up is this Pop Grass.
I put it in my mouth and swallowed it without chewing, and it was immediately appraised.
[Name: Pop Grass]
[Level: -8]
[Effect: Digestion Acceleration (Miniscule)]
[Fertility: ???]
[Origin: Dungeon (Landaust)]
Wow… I pulled a negative level plant right off the bat…
Since I would have no way of telling the levels of the unappraised plants beforehand, I would just have to buy them completely randomly… But if the great majority of them were of low or negative levels, I kind of wanted to refrain.
Well, only the level for the first plant I used for appraisal would be negative, so the effect wouldn’t really apply, and it wouldn’t matter much. However, it was a bit troublesome because it was hard to get a good idea of the effect from a low-level or negative-level plant. The average level of Pop Grass might have something like Digestion Acceleration (Medium) as the norm… But if I wanted to get more accurate information about it, I would have to go to Green Formula to appraise other ones.
While pondering the thought of drawing a negative-level unappraised plant, I continued to pick up and swallow one unappraised plant after the other to appraise them.
In about 30 minutes, I managed to finish appraising the 15 previously unappraised plants that I had purchased today, and I had established a rough understanding of their general effects.
10 of the 15 were of negative levels, and the remaining 5 were of single-digit levels, which led me to have only a very rough understanding of them. However, 2 of them seemed to be usable. Their names were Odor Weed and Warm Herb, and both of them were fairly expensive.
The Odor Weed was a plant with a strong odor, which was a characteristic that I didn’t even need to appraise to figure out, given its pungent smell. But the appraisal results showed that aside from that, it could also cause olfactory abnormalities. In regards to the stink, it could release an even more powerful and far-reaching stench than that of the burnt Magical Grass that I had used in the past.
The Warm Herb was a plant that could warm the body from the inside out. It was a very simple plant, but it was one that could be absolutely critical in certain environments. The equipment I had borrowed from the grandma came with measures against heat and cold, but I was pretty sure the Warm Herb could be used with it at the same time.
For the time being, that was it for the plants that I had bought from Green Formula. I wanted to look into the potions as well… But I had already spent way too much time going through everything and appraising plants, so I could just save it for tomorrow. I decided to synthesize plants and sleep, leaving the preparation for tomorrow’s Dungeon-clearing attempt for the next morning.
