Chapter 6 - Descent! Into the Boundless Void

Chapter 6: Descent! Into the Boundless Void

“Investment contracts are the means by which major factions recruit talent.”

“The Heart of the Lord doesn’t care about your background. The quality and traits are completely unpredictable.”

“Thus, it’s not uncommon for a child from a humble background to rise to greatness. If they sign an investment contract, they can receive a large amount of early resources, even securing a prearranged road to greatness!”

“But, the price they pay is sacrificing part of their territory rights. No matter how much they gain, they must share a certain percentage with the investors.”

“Sacrificing your future to gain a massive influx of resources in the short term!”

These “Investment Contracts” were first widely used overseas, where new Lords didn’t receive rewards directly. Instead, they were handed a stack of contracts and could choose whether or not to sign.

In the domestic realm, the higher-ups didn’t support such behavior. That’s why each new Lord receives a standardized set of rewards to help ordinary families determine their own destiny.

Unfortunately, morality isn’t a measure for everyone.

Take the principal of Shenhe High School, the beautiful woman in red. Initially, she didn’t allow such contracts. However, she was met with opposition from many students and parents.

Eventually, the government was forced to make Investment Contracts optional rather than mandatory.

“How come these contracts all seem to say just two words: ‘Devour the People!’?”

Wu Chi naturally wouldn’t sign an Investment Contract.

He turned and left.

After leaving the school, Wu Chi went to buy some food and water.

Due to the limitations of the Newcomer Trial, he couldn’t bring too many items, whether buildings, Void Crystals, or even daily necessities!

In the end, Wu Chi bought enough resources to sustain 100 people for a month.

Back home, he took a shower, changed into black combat gear, and strapped the alloy longsword hanging in his bedroom to his waist.

This alloy longsword was, of course, a mundane item.

He then entered the living room and opened the Lord’s Heart panel in his mind.

[Lord]

[Territory]

Wu Chi smiled faintly, clapped his hands, and prepared to act.

Suddenly, a stream of information surged into his mind.

“New Lord, this is your first descent into the Boundless Void!”

“The Newcomer Trial has begun!”

“For 30 days, monster waves will appear daily. The monsters will grow stronger as time progresses!”

“Defeat monsters to earn Void rewards!”

“If you leave before the 30 days are up, the trial will fail! No penalties, no rewards!”

“A Lord who survives for 30 days will receive rewards from the Void based on their performance!”

Although Wu Chi had learned about these details in class, hearing them again made him feel a surge of excitement!

He took a deep breath, wasted no time, and immediately pulled out the two building models from his inventory.

[Altar], [Barracks]!

“[Altar]! Go!”

Wu Chi threw the model of the altar.

The small building model grew rapidly with the wind.

It grew larger and larger!

Eventually, it became a grand, ancient altar beside the small hut!

“Since I don’t have Void Crystals to summon units, I’ll summon a hero first.”

Wu Chi took out 10 Void Crystals and walked over.

As soon as he stepped onto the altar’s stairs, an attribute panel appeared in his mind.

[Altar] (+)

Level: 1 (0/100)Function: Summon (10), Advanced Summon (100).Heroes: None.Description: Consumes Void Crystals to summon beings from the myriad worlds to fight for you!

“Hmm? The altar has a plus sign?”

“Wait!”

“Can the [Mechanical Kidney] also function during the Newcomer Trial?”
