Chapter 75 Chance (6)

When the next two wolves tried to hit him, Jake used Cyclone Strike to stop both of them. Now that he thought about it, it was surprisingly easy to critically damage monsters that tend to attack with their mouths like that. Nevertheless, the attack caused some damage, but it was Louise's Fireballs that stunned the enemies. It gave Jake the chance to finish them off.

"All right… twenty seconds and we didn't use that much mana, this is progress," Jake nodded to himself in satisfaction. "Let's keep up the pace."

As they proceeded, the number of encounters also increased exponentially. Still, while only Jake invested in increasing his attack, the girls weren't falling behind. It was probably because the cold wasn't bothering them as much since they had skills to protect them against it. Nevertheless, things started to get complicated around the time four, and five snow wolves were attacking them at the same time…

When he saw a group of five running toward him, he raised his guard… it was time to bring the big guns. Instead of charging one attack, Jake dashed toward one of the monsters, and when he swung down his sword, he also used Mana Blade. The attack easily pierced the head of the monster and divided it in two.

Lana and Louise opened their eyes widely in shock. It was obvious that Jake was the one who always improved more than them since he truly had fun playing the game and he had more experience. Still, they couldn't imagine that he would be able to do that against the snow wolves so soon… They knew that Lana's buffs were helping, but even so…

In the next moment, the four remaining wolves attacked Jake, and while Louise tried to stop them, she only damaged two before they could land the attack. However, when they were about to rip Jake apart, he activated Cyclone Strike. He used it two times and so fast that the girls only saw him using it once. Thanks to that, they opened their eyes widely even more when the monsters fell to the ground, dead.

"Hmm, I guess using this much stamina against so many targets is acceptable," Jake muttered.

The group moved again, and after just thirty seconds, they found another party of five wolves. While the girls sighed, Jake smiled viciously… it was so fun to defeat big monsters like that so often. As for the girls, they were used to the grinding already, but they didn't like the repetition. If Jake let one of them get hit a single time, things would probably change from their perspective, but his pride wouldn't allow it.

Since the reward of that mission was some mana potions, Jake felt like it was fine to use the ones he obtained from the last few missions. Just like before, he attacked the head of the creatures, and at the last moment, he added Mana Blade to the power of his swings. Thanks to that, the five monsters died in no time.

"Hey, leave some to Louise," Lana protested.

"I am fine, but I think you should conserve your mana, Jake," Louise said.

Louise was right since Jake never bought potions but used those he gained in the missions. They would be better used against the boss… and considering how powerful the snow wolves were, it was clear that the boss would be several times more difficult than the scorpion king.

In the end, Jake decided to listen to Louise, but he still used Mana Blade once in every battle. His current mana regeneration granted him the chance to do at least that much. Even when Jake ran out of mana, he managed to pull off his job successfully while defeating more wolves that they could spawn.

After doing that for like two hours non-stop, the group finally saw in the distance a hill made of snow, and around it, they could find hundreds of snow wolves. The hill wasn't big enough to be a dungeon in itself, so it seemed that it was just the top of another underground dungeon…

"It seems we found it, what now?" Lana asked. "We still have half of the mission here."

Jake wondered. Their skills and classes were leveling up pretty nice, and they could keep grinding since now they got used to the number of monsters. Still, Jake wasn't someone who would feel satisfied with the same for long. With their final goal on the map so close, there was no way that he wouldn't feel like challenging it if he had the chance.

"First of all, let's clear the area of the monsters, once we do that, we can talk about it," Jake said.

Fortunately, Jake didn't have to expose the party to that whole army of monsters. As they got close, the monsters naturally began to walk toward them, and the bad visibility of the terrain finally helped them some. After another hour, they managed to clean the area from the monsters. Even Jake was a bit surprised with that much progress from one mission to the other. Was it because of their new items and skills, or was it because of their experience and confidence after defeating numerous foes? Jake couldn't answer that question.

"Well, here we are," Lana said while looking at the cave made of crystal buried in the hill of snow.

"It looks like a place that came out of a fairy tale," Louise said while touching the crystal cave. "The walls aren't that cold… although the rest of the map is pretty desolate, the dungeon sure looks like a touristic point."

The group didn't have time to keep looking at the dungeon in awe since a group of ten snow wolves appeared… it was finally time for one of those battles. While it seemed like it would be difficult, the entrance of the dungeon wasn't that big, so the monsters left one after the other, and that gave Jake and the girls the chance to eliminate them before they could try to attack as a group.
