"This was… interesting," Jake said. "Still, the fact that I can't move is a big demerit."
"What did you do?" Lana asked.
"I used Concentrated Strike to propel a single attack. Strength can also increase the speed of things," Jake said. "That was why I managed to pull this off. Still, it will only work on brain-dead targets."
Jake turned around and then looked for the loot, but he only saw the corpses of the monsters. That was a big letdown… Nevertheless, the number of enemies he needs to defeat will probably be enough for him to upgrade his gear. Jake knew that it was necessary to do that since he focused on increasing his strength the most, and his endurance and speed combined didn't even reach that level. Jake noticed earlier that the reptilians' weapons disappeared, but even their armor disappeared after a while… they probably resisted for a while longer since they were closer to their bodies.
"Shall we look for the dungeon?" Louise asked.
"We still have fifty hours to complete the mission," Jake said, and then he sat to meditate. "Let's rest as much as possible for a while and then wait for the monsters to find us. That should give us the chance to grow stronger without taking too many risks."
"You are really being careful all of a sudden," Lana furrowed her eyebrows.
"I have confidence that I can survive some hard fights, but I can't say the same about you two," Jake said.
"Underestimating us again, huh…" Lana said, and then her right eyebrow twitched.
"I am not. I am just stating the fact that you guys don't have a high defense or skills like Lesser Vampirism that can increase your survivability," Jake explained. "You might be able one day to restore thousands of points of health per second, but that will be useless if you have only a few hundred or if you fight a boss that can literally crush you with their weight alone."
"I think that seems… obvious, but what we should do about that?" Louise asked.
"Look for defensive spells that can protect you at all times," Jake said. "Mana Shield is pretty common in games, and since in this reality we can use game-like abilities, finding that one shouldn't be impossible."
"Let's ask Luke the next time we find him," Lana said.
"Him again… even if you want to buy it, it should be pretty expensive," Jake said. "It is a common spell that all magicians want to have."
"Well, there is only one thing we can do to solve that problem then…" Lana said while pointing to another group of Reptilians approaching.
That group had five members as well, but only three dashed, and the other two fired Water Balls. Louise used her power to weaken those, and since the monsters were too far away, she actually managed to drain all the mana from the spells. Thanks to that, she created a Fireball big enough to explore one of the targets and make the other two fly to the distance. Jake finished one off before it could even fall on the ground with Mana Blade and then dashed toward the other. The other one got up as quickly as possible, but not before Jake could approach and pierce its heart with his sword.

Jake soon dashed toward the other two and blocked the Water Balls that they fired. They could use magic, but their power wasn't that high, so the monster assumed their fighting stances with spears. When he got close enough, he used Bash, but the creature blocked the strike and was only pushed back a little. The other tried to stab Jake, but then he made his arrow of dark flames pierce the monster's head, and after a couple of seconds, the beast fell.
"Wow… even though my intelligence isn't high, the power of this magic is truly astonishing," Jake thought.
The remaining monster tried to attack Jake, but three Fireballs exploded on its head, and then the creature fell dead. Jake sighed… he felt a bit stronger than before, and it was probably because of that he didn't feel threatened by the Reptilians. It was a little boring, but since he was going to face an army of them soon enough, he would wait patiently for that time.
"No drops again…" Jake furrowed his eyebrows. "I am starting to think that increasing luck is a waste of time."
"You are increasing luck to gain more drops? That sure sounds stupid," Lana said when Louse and she approached. "Luke said that luck only works when defeating monsters with a critical hit, right?"
"I don't have to accept all things he says at face value," Jake said and then sat down to meditate.
In the end, the girls also copied Jake. While they had some potions, they didn't know when they would obtain more, so they needed to be careful. Nevertheless, thanks to his recent progress and the constant use of Meditation, Jake could use Mana Blade almost two times per minute. That sure was exciting for him… the attack was really cool and powerful, after all. While fighting up-close was fun. Overpowering his enemies while using that skill constantly seemed pretty nice. The only downside was the fact that Jake couldn't see the skill's size increasing. If it could increase, then Jake would be able to take down as many enemies as possible with it. Nevertheless, Jake had to stop thinking about that since a new group of enemies approached. However, before they could attack them, they saw some arrow hitting their heads, alongside a Fire Tornado that appeared in the middle of them and began to burn the Reptilians to a crisp.
After a couple of seconds, Jake, Lana, and Louise saw a group of humans leaving the back of one of the houses in that city, and then they also looked at them in surprise. They also looked like new players who just reached the requirements to reach the second part of the game.
