Chapter 114 Troublesome (5)

Just as Karina said, the group was teleported to an area covered in vegetation. However, things weren't as lively as they had assumed since they were pretty far away from the dungeon. However, they could see a large forest in the distance… that was their destination since they could see many salamanders around it. It wasn't a bad place to hunt, but it was quite intense...

Salamanders were essentially oversized lizards that had a thick and red skin. They were almost three meters long thanks to their tail and were one and a half meters tall. Despite their appearance, they weren't that sturdy, but they sure were fast. Adding that, with their obvious power to breathe fire, they were a troublesome foe. Or so Jake thought at first…

"The weather here sure is nice," Lana said. "There is even a lake in the distance… I wouldn't mind taking a few days off here."

Jake didn't notice that lake, but thanks to Lana, he not only found the lake but also some humanoid monsters around it. They looked like fish and had light blue skin. They kind of looked like the Reptilians since they had spears, but...

"Sahuagin… " Jake rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "It seems we were teleported right in the middle between two territories of those species…"

Jake more or less knew that eventually, he would find worlds with more than one dungeon, but he didn't expect they would be so close to each other. Jake looked around to see why those dungeons were positioned like that. Still, he didn't find anything aside from a destroyed and apparently abandoned village West of their current direction.

"It looks like we won't be attacked here since we are on the border of the territories," Louise said.

"That is awesome!" Lana said. "We will finally have some peace at night, even before completing the mission."

While that was all very well and good, Lana couldn't understand that completely stopping their hunt at night would be the same as letting the monsters increase in number for several hours. That will only increase their work on the next day…

"Let's get going," Jake said.

Although they still had a lot of time to complete the quest, the number of salamanders in the region was weirdly high. So, as soon as they moved toward the forest, four salamanders noticed them and approached. Although the monsters had some speed, they didn't come that fast… before anyone could attack, Louise fired an Ice Arrow toward the head of one of the monsters. Still, the creature reacted fast enough to open its mouth and make the arrow turn into water. Louise got surprised. Even though she drained some mana of Flamethrower, her own attack still didn't accomplish a thing.

"Their range is twenty meters. Make sure to keep your distance," Jake said and then dashed toward the monsters.

Jake imagined that one or two would use Flamethrower, so he was caught off guard when they opened their mouths. Still, Jake also reacted on time to Aim at their mouths and hit them with Mana Blades. The attack wounded the interior of their mouths, and the creature grunted in pain. With that chance, Karina easily pierced the heads of two of the monsters with her dagger and killed them rather quickly. As for the third one, Louise froze its head with an ice arrow. As for the last, Jake attacked its head with Bash. While a single strike of his katana didn't kill it, it made the monster fall unconscious, finishing it rather easily.

"That was… quite easy…" Lana said and then frowned.

"It was also pretty fast, but it is only natural since we went all out," Louise said.

"Don't drop your guard. Even if they are easier than Golems in some moments, this mission should have a higher difficulty level," Karina said. "In one way or the other, we will find why this mission rewards are higher than the other one."

Karina had a point, and Jake could imagine the boss being the cause of that. Facing a creature which its strength should he magic in a confined place sure will be beyond difficult. Even more so for Jake, who couldn't let the enemies' attacks reach the back like.

"Louise, focus on draining their mana and freezing the salamanders again. Once that happens, you go and finish them," Jake said to Karina. "I will focus on blocking their flames."

"That will be painful…" Lana said.

"It is fine. I have a trick up my sleeve," Jake said.

The girls had no idea what Jake was talking about, but in the end, they decided to trust him. So, when the next group of four salamanders appeared, Jake dashed toward them with his shield raised. Soon enough, they opened their mouths and used Flamethrower. As expected, the heat of the flames made him sweat Bullets, and even the temperature of his shield was starting to burn his arm. However, despite that, soon enough, one of the monsters stopped attacking and fell dead, and Louise hadn't even attacked yet…

The girls frowned since Jake didn't have the ability to reflect damage or anything like it. What he did was simple… Jake just made his dark flames pass through the Flamethrower and then enter the monster's mouth and then reach its brain. Truth to be told, he didn't test it before, but he had a feeling that his flames could ignore ordinary ones.
