Chapter 261 Thunderstorm (3)

After fighting the monsters a few times, Jake noticed that they always flew at the same altitude and at a certain angle. That made it easy to predict their attacks, and since they always attacked from the front, Jake could tell that he was heading in the right direction. The only issue was that he could only see the area when the flashes of lightning illuminated things. So, it was hard to tell where or when he could be ambushed by humans and monsters.

"I thought that finding people here would be easy, but…" Jake thought while looking around. "No one sane enough would make camps at such a desolate place where the rain never stops."

Scorching hot deserts, ice-cold snow mountains, now a land of never-ending storm… the worlds that Jake visited sure were crazy. Maybe that was why the monsters were getting so much stronger… the world they lived in required them to be that strong.

"Although their real homes aren't here…" Jake thought while he furrowed his eyebrows. "I have yet to learn why the monsters are using the crystals… for how long will things be like that? They don't use the system, so perhaps the crystals are their way of moving around, but they wouldn't bring their armies without a goal."

Unless they were stupid, the monsters were supposed to make their dungeons appear at special places… to build a foundation for their real goal. Still, until now, Jake had no idea what their goal could be. Nevertheless, Jake's instincts alerted him to danger. That was the first time since the first battle started that he felt that, so he got some shurikens from his magic boxes. When he saw two flashes of light appear in the sky, Jake threw them in those directions. In the end, the two monsters that showed up got bit in the neck by the shurikens and lost a lot of blood since Jake used Concentrated Strike. At the same time, their spells were canceled.

Before the monsters could recover, Jake jumped toward one of them and swung his Blade toward the neck of the beast. Since he hit the wound that he had just opened, he caused critical damage. After using Mana Blades two times, he killed the beast.

Using the fallen monster as a platform, Jake jumped toward the other. Unfortunately, the remaining monster used Thunder Blade faster.

"Don't make me throw my weapon all the damn time!" Jake said as he threw his sword.

The blade hit the projectile and prevented the monster from hitting him. Not only that, but since he used dark flames on the tip of his sword, the weapon passed through the projectile and hit the monster's head, piercing it with ease.

"Now that I think about it, all this shit would be a lot easier if I just combined dark flames with the crossbows," Jake thought. "Their piercing power and speed would go through the roof and easily kill these motherfuckers."

There wouldn't be any fun on that, so Jake wasn't planning to use it. In any case, after moving for a while, Jake realized that perhaps he won't have much of choice. In the distance, he could see a massive mountain where lightning bolts were falling around like rain. At the same time, he could see numerous monsters flying around.

"Well now… I can see how people of the frontlines must have found this a pain in the ass," Jake said.

A proper army would be needed to defeat so many powerful flying enemies. Considering the time that Jake has to complete the mission, things got really weird… the front line knew that things would get out of hand if they left the dungeon alone, and they did it anyway.

"As expected, they are a bunch of morons," Jake thought.

While Jake was standing there for a while, the monsters kept coming at regular intervals. It seemed that they were looking for something around since Jake also could see monsters heading in other directions. If he were to play safe, Jake probably could take the enemies down without taking too many risks, it would take a few days up to a week, and Jake wasn't a fan of that idea, though.

When Jake looked behind, he saw the crystal wolves still eating… they had been doing that for the past hour, and they only stopped to take the feathers of the corpses on the cart, and the cart was now full. In any case, the crystal wolves reached level ten already, and the fact that they were eating was also making the skill level up… perhaps Jake could use that.

"It is annoying that the best solutions are things that annoy me…" Jake said and then sighed. "Following the path of a simple warrior without the bullshit of fairy-like magic sure is troublesome."

Jake shook his head because, deep down, he knew that his hatred for magic had no real explanation, but that was how he felt anyway. In any case, after thinking for a while, Jake realized that he needed to slow down this time. On the previous mission, he got close to death once again, so he had to get stronger slowly for a few days before fighting the boss of the dungeon. He had six days for that…

Jake decided to approach the mountain a bit more, and then he stopped in an area where the flying monsters approached quite often. After leaving some corpses around, the monsters went to check, and Jake ambushed them. Ambushes weren't much of his style either, but it was better than using magic. Now and then, Jake would let the monsters attack him in order to level up his Shock Resistance, but he wasn't seeing much result while doing that. He probably would need Shock Immunity to see some real effects, but it was hard to be sure if he would find such skill in the dungeon shop of that mission.
