Chapter 297 Cold Power (1)

Jake blocked it with his sword, but he was pushed backward for dozens of meters. Even after stopping, his sword was vibrating… such was the power of that fearsome beast. Although the monster touched the dark flames, Jake didn't see any damage there, and only the thick layer of ice on the tip of the tail had cracked a bit.

"That is probable one… of the toughest parts to damage on that thing's… body," Jake said while running to the side to escape more ice spears.

At least the enemy wasn't eager to approach and try to crush Jake with its massive body. That could become a problem, after all.

While running around, Jake began to fire some Mana Blades. Thanks to the dark flames, they managed to destroy the ice spears fired at them and hit the boss. The creature grunted in pain when a wound that wasn't bleeding suddenly appeared on its chest. That was a start, but the start only sealed one hundred points of the enemy's health.

"Unless I keep hitting that thing's head or neck with this combo, this won't work," Jake thought. "I won't have the chance to fire so many of those, after all."

Jake stopped attacking like that and then changed his posture. While he had never used the Ox guard before, he felt really comfortable when he assumed that stance. Since he put his left leg forward with a step and balanced his stance with that position, he decreased the area in which the target could hit him. The ice spears passed a few centimeters away from him and when the enemy fixed his aim, Jake charged using Flash.

The next ice spears missed him, and Jake's sword hit the chest of the monster, but before the weapon could pierce too much, the boss hit his right side with its claws. Jake was sent flying to the distance while spinning in the air. Somehow he landed on his two feet without rolling on the ground by using his sword to keep his balance. Jake confirmed that the monster was pissed after having sealed more than five hundred points of its health.

The Elder Frozen Salamander fixed its posture to be able to run better, and the creature did precisely that while using Ice Breath. As expected, the creature was smart enough to understand that Jake didn't have to take much of that attack to become a statue of ice.

Still, Jake used Flash several times to the side to escape the attack, but the enemy chased him. The area of the dungeon's last room was five hundred meters long and wide, so the monster had plenty of room to move around with its massive body. While Jake was looking at that, he could tell that the area around the monster would freeze him when he approached. He could only furrow his eyebrows while looking at that.

"The dark flames are powerful, but they can only affect things in which they touched directly," Jake thought. "They won't be able to improve the temperature close to the monster."

To fight against a monster that has a powerful tail like that, Jake could only aim at the sides of the beast. However, his window of attack will be short when the boss has that much mobility. In the end, Jake realized that he had to get rid of both, but which should he attack first?

While he was thinking about that, the boss used Dash, and its speed increased tremendously. That forced Jake to make his choice. He ran around and let himself be surrounded in one of the corners of the room. The beast didn't slow down and kept using Ice Breath. Thanks to that, he almost slammed against the wall, but he dodged at the last moment and jumped over the beast.

The beast tried to attack Jake in midair but failed miserably. In the end, Jake landed almost over the tail and swung his sword down to cut it in half. That area seemed particularly thick, but that didn't make him hesitate. Even when he saw the tail moving, he still went and attacked it…

The massive beast grunted in pain while the sword, thanks to the power of the dark flames, managed to cut off the tail. Jake managed to deal with one of the weapons of the monster, but he didn't have much time to celebrate since the beast immediately kicked him.

As expected of a monster of that size, Jake flew until he only stopped when his back collided against the walls on the other side of the room. His health decreased to ten percent of its maximum as he felt his body getting crushed.

Despite the agonizing pain, Jake forced himself to get up because he could tell that the enemy was turning around and was about to use fire some Ice Spears. His gut feeling was right, and even in that situation, he managed to cast Regeneration and then used Flash to the side. A few milliseconds later, the area he had been a moment ago was bombarded by the ice spears.

"It is okay… while I am in a worse condition, I caused more damage than the beast," Jake said, trying to keep his mind in the game.

It was hard to keep his focus when his whole body was screaming like a bitch, so he had to mumble that. Regardless, Jake dealt with one annoying problem at the cost of almost dying in the process. He just had to deal with the others by barely surviving as well. It was better to start with those prospects than to be greedy. Jake had to learn his lesson that way...
