Chapter 306 Closed Eyes

After saying that, Jake resumed his hunt. He was planning to kill the mutated bats for a day before dealing with their boss. Naturally, he wasn't going to let Luke's group get in the way of getting the experience and coins.

"What do you think we should do?" Rose asked.

"We need to report to Frederick that Jake isn't being that violent, at least not yet," Luke said. "We also need to tell about other things…"

"He is dangerous…" Rose said. "Even if he is, we can't kill someone if they haven't committed any crimes yet… That is why we are going to keep a close look at him. Once we determine that he needs to be dealt with, they will cross that bridge."

"It might be too late once we decide that…" Rose said.

"Your brother told you hundreds of times that you are too bloodthirsty… This isn't up to you to decide," Luke said.

"This isn't up to you to decide," Rose said while copying and mocking Luke's attitude.

Luke took a deep breath to calm down and then decided to rest while Rose passed the message to her brother. It was hard to say how things would play out from there, but it would be better to keep wh eye on the core of the issue, and that was Jake. Still, in the end, Luke couldn't deny that they were only paying too much attention to him now because the criminals had gone silent in the last few months.

While trying to ignore the annoying eyes, Jake kept fighting the bats that left the dungeon. That place was really weird due to the nature of the enemies. While the interior was as dark as it could be, he could see things a bit thanks to the wings of the monsters. Not to mention, they were quite noisy, so to be surprised by them was close to impossible.

"Hunting them isn't difficult… But I guess the fact that my dark flames enhance the bolts is one of the main factors," Jake thought.

The interior of the dungeon was pretty large so that the bats could maneuver inside, but they couldn't do that faster than he fired them. Regardless, during that time, Jake realized that perhaps the power of draining mana from the ambient was similar to Master thief… Making the dark flames evolve wasn't something mentioned in the description, but he could do that. So perhaps, Master Thief could become like that as well.

In any case, Jake waited a full day before heading to the interior of the dungeon, and much to his surprise, Luke's group didn't bother him even once. In the end, Jake believed that he didn't have to be an ass to those who were reasonable enough, so he decided to maintain his neutral stance against those guys. He had no idea what would happen in the future, but his hostility could wait until he had a real reason to show it.

With that in mind, Jake entered the dungeon in order to deal with the boss. The last few incidents wore his mind out a bit, but that situation made him calm down a bit. It was only natural that there would be people and people regarding him. He just had to act accordingly and not let the asshole tire him out.

When Jake reached the final room, he noticed that the number of enemies had stopped spawning. So, he couldn't tell anymore where the crystal and the boss were since everything was completely dark. He couldn't just attack randomly and risk damaging the crystal and causing a dungeon break.

"I guess it can't be helped…" Jake thought as he entered the last part of the dungeon.

It didn't take long for Jake to hear the sound of static around, but he didn't see any flashes of light. It was only natural that the boss would use lightning magic as well, but it was rather troublesome that he couldn't see the creature even slightly.

Jake enhanced his sword with the dark flames and then waited for the enemy while raising his senses… when he heard the sound of electricity again. He raised his guard, but before he could react in any way, something hit his back and then made him roll on the ground several times.

That hurt like hell and even paralyzed him upon impact… once again, Jake saw nothing. While getting up, Jake tried to increase his senses again. Even if he couldn't see that, he could tell that the enemy was moving at supersonic speeds by using lightning magic.

He could think of some ways on how to deal with that, but despite the surprise attack on his back, he only lost thirty percent of his health… he couldn't use Appraisal on the enemy since he couldn't see the creature, but it was clear that the monster was being careful.

"It would be better to go all out and surprise the enemy when he does that…" Jake thought.

It didn't take long for Jake to feel the next attack. Once again, he barely heard anything, only small amounts of static, not even he heard the sound of wings flapping… it was the first time he heard a boss that was so good at surprise attacks like that. Still, Jake's senses helped him, and he swung his sword in the right direction, and then it collided against the claws of the enemy. For a second, he saw a massive bat while his body was being pushed backward…

The creature was five meters tall and eight meters wide, it was almost insane that such a monster could move so fast and without making any sound… Regardless, the beast still had enough weight on its body to push Jake backward.

The massive beast suddenly opened its mouth and then screamed. At that distance, Jake felt like he was inside a giant bell, and the bell was trying to smash his head… the monster only used that chance to move away from Jake. Fortunately, he recovered before the enemy could attack again, but his ears were still ringing.

Eventually, Jake stopped moving altogether and increased his focus once again. The boss couldn't feel Jake using any mana, but it was clear that it was a trap. Ignoring that and deciding to use Jake's imprudence against him, the creature flew toward Jake.

Jake blocked the attack again. Still, he began to be pushed backward insanely fast, as if his swing had no power behind it. The monster also felt something off and then felt the danger to its life… unfortunately, the creature couldn't do anything before the power of its charge could be fully unleashed. Jake used that moment to create two giant rings with dark flames and made them spin as they moved toward the wings of the boss.

The giant bat used several Electric Spears to block them, but the distance hadn't been enough to make spells of that level lose power. In the end, the flames reached the wings of the monster and began to grind away its flesh like saws.

"HYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The monster screamed from the depths of its soul.

Jake had planned to cut off the enemy's wings as soon as possible, but electric discharges passed through the enemy's body every second, and those increased its magic resistance by a large margin… it was probably the effects of Electric Aura… Regardless, Jake used that chance to advance and then cut off one of the wings with the help of his sword.

Amidst its pain, the monster screamed again, and since he was closer than before, Jake was stunned by the cream and lost his focus, making the dark flames disappear, and then the beast moved away. However, the monster could no longer fly, so things improved considerably.

This time, Jake could feel something weird with his ears… there was an odd sense of wetness there, and he couldn't hear anything else aside from his own heartbeat. It seemed that the last scream shattered his eardrums… just now when he finally was supposed to hear the footsteps of the enemy.

Jake sighed… in a place where he couldn't rely on his eyes. Even his instincts relied a lot on his ears. So, not being able to hear anything was a recipe for trouble in that kind of situation. While Jake could just chase the monster, there wasn't much that he could do by trying to attack something without seeing the ground around him. Eventually, Jake used Fire Enchantment on his sword to illuminate things in the area. However, that only illuminated an area of half a meter around him.
