After leaving Myrna's group behind, Jake looked for a mission where his melee skills would be challenged. He found one where he had to fight giants invading a world of harpies… the harpies he knew were unbelievably violent, but those were pretty chill and even used weapons. Still, Jake had nothing to do with them, so he just focused on fighting the giants.
At first, he had a hard time winning without using his innate skills, but he had enough time to adapt since they worked alone. Since then, ten days had passed, and Jake only managed to rest between battles in the last five days. So, he took naps for thirty or so seconds…
Right now, he was taking one of those short naps in front of the entrance of the dungeon while sitting cross-legged on the ground. His body felt the ground trembling a little with the footsteps of something big approaching, but he didn't wake up. Jake had a hard time mastering that technique, but he eventually managed to do that: wake up only when his enemy showed some bloodlust.
A five meters tall humanoid creature that didn't have a single strain of hair in his body and had only a piece of cloth covering his waist appeared. It seemed to be a male, and it was unarmed. When the creature thought of smashing Jake's head with its fists, Jake opened his eyes and got up instantly.
The giant charged at him and then used all the momentum and the weight behind its body to increase the power of the punch. Jake raised his sword and blocked the attack with the blade, and while it made the beast lose some blood, it didn't slow it down even a bit. Jake was also pushed backward for several meters before the monster finally stopped.
The giant attempted to use the other fist, but Jake moved to the side in one fluid motion and swung his sword upward, cutting half of the giant's face and destroying its left eye as well.
"Huuuuurrrgggghhhhh…"
The monster groaned in pain but based on the sound. It looked like the creature only got a small wound. The beast used its right arm again, and once again, Jake blocked the attack with the blade of his sword and as if the beast was a broken machine, it tried to attack Jake with another left hook. Once again, Jake moved to the swing to dodge the attack, but he destroyed the other eye of the beast with a sideway cut. After that, Jake had an easy time jumping and silently defeating the beast from above.

Jake kicked the corpse away and then sat down to rest again. He did the exact same things thousands of times in the last few days. Things would have been a lot easier if he had used his innate skills, but instead of that, he wanted to sharpen his sword skills. So, he had been fighting an opponent that was at least two times stronger than him.
Thanks to that, Jake was now able to use the openings that he forced the enemies to show. When he started fighting them, he barely had enough time to defeat one before the next approached, but now he was as efficient as a well-oiled machine.
During those thirty seconds where he slept, Jake looked at his past and his actions. He thought that he would never dwell on it like that, but he couldn't avoid it. In his mind, his actions bad been justified, but Jake also knew that they caused the end of the human species… it was unavoidable, but maybe he made it happen sooner.
"I can no longer run away from my past… I caused all that in one way or the other because she chose to give birth to me, my mother died, and my father's life was ruined," Jake thought. "The name Judas fits me well… despite that, I was given a second chance. Whoever is behind this certainly had the power not to bring me back to life, but they still did it… I need to know why and I need to find who is behind that shadow. After I do this, then my journey will end."
Jake was acting like usual, but his life reached a new low… he couldn't find any other reason for living aside from getting the answer to those two questions… he didn't want to die again without knowing anything. The only thing he could do was to keep getting stronger and stronger and eventually draw the attention of the powerhouses of the universe. Maybe they will know about that shadow and the being or beings that revived the people from the other one.
You received a new quest.
Quest: Fight for Erdaria.
Do you accept the quest? Y/N
"What the hell…" Jake thought. "Why would such a thing happen now? Are my thoughts being read?"
The quest had no reward, so Jake felt really compelled to ignore it. However, his instincts were telling him that ignoring that would be something that he would regret later. Doing the goody-two-shoes quests wasn't something that he wanted to do, even more so when there was no reward for him…
Jake pondered for a while about what he should do… it seemed that the world was on the verge of collapsing. That was a good chance for him to obtain power, so it wasn't like it was going to be a massive waste of time.
"Well, it isn't like I have anything better to do, and since it feels like a quest prepared by someone after hearing my thoughts, maybe it will help me find one of the answers I want…" Jake thought. "Let's see what the one controlling the system has in store for me. You might be thinking that I am walking in the palm of your hands, but don't think that it will be easy to control me."
After that, Jake accepted the quest, and then he was teleported to another world…
