Chapter 338 Special Quest

"I can see how you would benefit from that, but it was a technique that we applied to machines forged with magic that originally belonged to powerful mages," Virgilius explained. "Only them had enough magic to draw and force the enemy in nature to become theirs."

"How strong were they?" Jake asked. "I suspect that you have the exact value of their intelligence. If you survived to tell the tale, then they shouldn't be that amazing."

"We didn't face them. They were members of a group that offered us their assistance in exchange for us losing our individualism to work for the group as a whole," Virgilius explained. "We saw them fighting once and gathered the data to help us with the fuel problem, but even if you say that it was an issue with their magic power, things aren't that simple. They were a group that, over the years, focused only on training their magic. Even their kids are born with two thousand points in their intelligence parameter… you can't hope to match them by just increasing your intelligence."

Jake couldn't disagree more with that. If there is a will, there is a way. Moreover, he just recalled someone that could do that as well… It was Louise.

"I don't know if I can copy what she can do, but there is the only way to know… still, I don't want to leave traces of my actions, and finding them would let that happen," Jake rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I don't think that they would sell me out, but they might be being watched by people that might think that they can find me…"

In any case, Jake has another thing to do, so he will have some time to consider all that. Over the course of the next few days, Jake trained day in and day out. As for his wolves, Virgilius didn't say much aside from the fact that the trolls in the area were busy dealing with them.

"After analyzing the data offered by thousands of your attempts, I conclude that you will have to fill the sword with your mana from the inside out," Virgilius said. "You will have to keep it at a semi-solid state, almost like you did with your dark flames, and you will also need either more magic power or mana."

"I guess that is why I was unable to obtain a result similar to what I did in my previous life," Jake said. "I don't think that I have been neglecting my mana and magic power… even though I hate magic."

After all this time, Jake realized that his hate for magic was something that he obtained in his previous life. When he was ambushed countless times and when he died… all of that had been because of some sort of spell. He hated mages for that reason, even though he didn't feel anything like that toward Lana and Louise.

"Well, I guess I can either use the sinful class and the other skills to increase my parameters faster or use Myrna's technique to try to increase my magic power," Jake thought.

Jake's instincts were telling him to hurry up, but his pride was on the way. Speaking of pride, that sin skill could help him… Just when Jake was considering that. He got another unexpected surprise.

You received a new quest.

Quest: defeat the dark guilds that are about to attack Neirales' world.

Do you accept the quest? Y/N

"Dark guild? Is that how the system calls the criminals that have been attacking several worlds? Why did it call them like that before?" Jake frowned.

"It seems the system decided to make use of your skills at a quite suspicious moment," Virgilius said. "You were planning to use the skills that you didn't want to help with the training, didn't you?"

"I guess so… in any case, I don't give two shits about these guys, and if this shitty system thinks that it can control me like this, then it is deaf wrong," Jake said and then chose no.

"It seems that your auxiliary system doesn't want you to take shortcuts," Virgilius said. "That is curious, considering that you all can gain skills and parameters using weapons."

Jake could only nod since it didn't make sense. He thought that the system wanted to become as strong as possible without any restraints, and if Jake goes against his pride, he would be able to do that…

"In any case, receiving another quest means that the system confirmed that I completed the other, and despite that, it didn't offer me anything," Jake thought. "I already considered such a possibility, but I guess I won't use the system anymore. At least not in the usual way."

That would be a bit troublesome, but it couldn't be helped. Jake had to keep his priorities straight, and those that caused him problems couldn't possibly be his allies or those that tried to manipulate him, for that matter.

Jake began to consider that Virgilius' analysis could also be wrong. Considering what just happened, one would think that his deductive skills have grown rusty. However, the surprises were far from over.

You received a new quest.

Quest: Help your friends defend Neirales world agaisnt the threat of the dark guilds.

Do you accept the quest? Y/N

"What the actual fuck… is this shitty system messing with me?" Jake thought while frowning. "Have you heard of this planet called Neirales?"

"It is the planet that many people like you have visited as of late. They were the reincarnated individuals of another universe," Virgilius explained. "It doesn't have many resources, so we never targeted it. It is a dark and cold planet, so it is a world visited by many criminals as well. It is the perfect place to hide and prepare ambushes"

That made even less sense… if the criminals trying to throw mud at humanity's name were hiding there, it would make sense. However, Lana's group isn't interested in fighting other humans, so their presence there is way too suspicious.
