Three months passed in the blink of an eye, while Leon was practicing Magma Spear like a madman, he noticed it would take years before he could obtain the power to destroy the harvesters' limbs using a single spell. Maybe if Leon could learn something that had more potential than Magma Spear, things could be different, but he had no time for that. So, Leon developed another passive skill that could multiplicate the growing speed of his spells and even increase the amount of damage he could cause at the same time.
Congratulations! You have learned the skill: Multi-Conjuration.
You obtained 01 status points.
The trigger to learn that skill was to create two identical magic projectiles at the same time and fire both of them. The cost of mana duplicated, but just like that, Leon's damage output increased. The stronger the spell, the faster the skill leveled up, so soon, the skill reached level ten, and Leon now could shot three Magma Spears at the same time.
"The speed you learn new skills sometimes scares me…"Darya frowned. "I don't remember seeing anything like that being show in any the footages that were revealed to the public in the battles against the harvesters."
"Really?" Leon rubbed his chin. "I guess I have some talent in learning and discovering ways to increase my powers… that being said, the people of this planet discovered this that I always wanted to learn but had no idea how to replicate. So, you shouldn't feel that impressed."
That made sense, but the thing was, the people of that world had decades and resources to study many things. Meanwhile, Leon discovered a new type of skill just by himself. Still, because he wasn't that creative learning anything aside from offensive magic, he was stuck in that world.
"What type of magic the soldiers of this world exactly use?" Leon asked, wondering if now he could take down a small team of soldiers by himself.
"I guess it is evolved form of the magic you taught me at the very beginning, Darya explained. "People here tend to focus on Pyromancy, Cryomancy, and skills like that. With that kind of skill, the soldiers here can learn new spells almost instantly. However, instead of doing that, they focus on strengthening those skills in order to stop harvesters like the fire titan."
Leon nodded; he could see the logic behind that. That kind of thinking would truly make soldiers specialized in opponents that were also specialized in some types of elemental magic. Although soldiers wouldn't obtain that many status points, they would be able to react and do many things even without using offensive spells. It was the best way to raise an army that could do many things, but it was the most efficient way to stop the growth of some individuals that grow to become much stronger, even using the basic version of that kind of skill.
"Maybe if I learn Pyromancy, my chances to win a duel against the fire titan will increase... but since I have been manipulating fire for years and I didn't learn Pyromancy, then the trigger to learn that is something very complicated. Still, my goal isn't to defeat those harvesters head on..."
Considering that those seven were fake harvesters, they belong to at least to worlds that reached the third stage of assimilation. They had at least a few hundreds of years to grow stronger, even though they chose a world that had opponents that didn't pose much of a threat to them, Leon couldn't hope to defeat them without the surprise element. Instead, trying anything aside from that was close to madness.
"Still... we have grown a lot in the last few months. Maybe it is about time to create and upgrade at the same time the mithril rings of the liches."
Leon created some equipment made of mithril, but all of those only had generic spec. He would have to develop specialized versions to caught the harvesters by surprise and knock them down. Unfortunately, he was fighting against aquatic monsters, and it was stupid to hope that those would give Leon bonuses that would increase his fire and earth magic. That being said, the rings of mithril would continue to be useful against all harvesters and even more before the battles.
"I guess it is about time to create better rings and pay a visit to Anton," Leon said. "We probably are powerful enough to survive any trap that god of death may have prepared for us."
"Shouldn't we learn Zen ourselves instead of creating magic items that have that skill?" Darya asked.
"That would usually be the case... but how do you feel when you have that ring equipped?" Leon asked.
"Calm and relaxed... even while we fight against monsters." Darya furrowed her eyebrows.
"That is because the ring forces you to stay in that state," Leon explained. "You will probably get nervous if you get wounded or if we see an unusually powerful foe, but the effects of the ring won't disappear. However, the same can't be applied if you learn the skill. Because the skill will be under your control."
"Ah... that makes sense." Darya nodded. "But what about the extra status points?"
"Don't worry, we will learn it eventually," Leon answered. "The problem is, to learn that skill, we will have to reach the next stage of meditation... I'm guessing that we will have to truly clear our minds and body to the external world to learn that skill. Meaning, in that state, we won't be able to feel, hear, or notice anything that may approach us... our notion of time will deviate. So, I think we should get more powerful before we try something like that."
"... You keep growing stronger, but you never drop your guard." Darya sighed. "I don't know if you are cautious or just a scaredy-cat."
Leon could only shrug after hearing that both options were probably right, but he would instead think of himself as someone cautious.
