She looked around to see if the old couple followed her before opening the door. She didn't wait for the man to say anything before she shut her door and dragged him away.
"Chen K what do you think you are doing here after I told you last night that our parents were here?" Aunt Lin asked with displeasure in her voice, and a frown etched on her face.
Chen K sighed before saying, "I can't continue to hide for so long. Father and mother will still come to know about me someday. After I spoke with you last night, I made a decision".
"And that decision is to send our old parents to the hospital by suddenly appearing in front of them on a whim?" Aunt Lin asked with a tinge of anger laced in her voice.
Chen K removed his sunglasses before running his hands through his hair. He was totally devastated by the current situation.
Seeing that he had nothing to say, and with his current disposition, Aunt Lin calmed down before saying, "You can come in and announce yourself to them because they had been on my neck for the past twenty-four hours now. And I'm already tired and can't deal with them any longer. But I don't want anyone fainting in my house, so it's either I send them to meet you somewhere, or you take responsibility if anything should happen to them in my house?"
"Whichever way, I will take full responsibility", Chen K declared.
"What about Ju Ju? Have you explained things to her?" Aunt Lin asked curiously.
"Yes. I went to the company today to talk to her". Chen K said, tucking his sunglasses onto his shirt collar.
"How did it go?" Aunt Lin asked expectantly.
"I just briefed her about what happened that year. At least her response was ok. But she said I couldn't come back to the Chen Villa until Lihua is officially married since she still hates me so much". Chen K said.
"That daughter of yours is the most stubborn person I've ever set my eyes on in my entire life. What is wrong with her?" Aunt Lin asked angrily.
"It's not completely her fault. Her reaction is normal. I am to be blamed for treating her mother so poorly even in her presence. I just hope she forgives me", Chen K said with a regretful expression.
"Well, she has to forgive you because all those plights you went through was because of her. You went to look for her, and so encountered a lot. She has to forgive you since you've already paid for your sins in that way", Aunt Lin finished speaking and sighed.
"Don't say it that way, Lihua is not obligated to forgive me. The only reason Ju Ju was willing to see me was because she knew I was going to see our daughter. She hasn't fully accepted me because I left her a widow for five solid years". Chen K said.
Before Aunt Lin could reply, an advanced shaky female voice sounded, "Is that you, Kang?"
Aunt Lin and Chen K both froze in their actions. Even though they were ready to come clean with the old couple, they still weren't prepared to be caught unawares.
Out of reflex action, Aunt Lin blocked Chen K's view from the old couple. But Chen K came out from behind her within seconds after he had readied himself.
"Father, Mother, it's me, Chen Kang". Chen K announced.
Tears gushed out from Old Lady Chen's eyes. She went to touch his arm to be convinced that he was truly the one standing there and that he was still alive.
After she touched him, more tears gushed down her eyes as she turned to Old Master Chen and said, "Old Chen, our son is really alive".
Old Master Chen couldn't believe his eyes. The son he thought he had lost five years ago and had also mourned, was actually alive?
His eyes became slightly reddened, but he was far too strong and emotionally composed to cry.
Twenty minutes later, all of them were sitting in Aunt Lin's living room and talking.
"So that was what happened?" Old Master Chen asked.
"Yes, father", Chen K confirmed.
"Ah! My son, you have gone through a lot", Old Lady Chen exclaimed.
Then Old Master Chen suddenly asked after he thought of something. "Were you the reason Ju Ju fainted the other day?"
"Yes father, and am sorry about it. I just wanted to see you all and explain what happened all these years. But I didn't expect her to faint, so I had to leave", Chen K explained.
The Old Man sighed, not knowing what to say to him. Then he looked at his daughter and asked, "How long have you two been in contact with each other?"
"Almost a year now". Aunt Lin answered not knowing why her father suddenly raised that question.
Old Master Chen then turned to his son and asked, in a stern voice, "So what took you so long to show yourself".
"Old Chen forgets about these questions, they are unnecessary. The good thing is that our son is still alive". Old Lady Chen said.
Then, she clasped Chen K's hands with her own before saying in a teary smile, "It's good that you are back. Even though you missed your daughter's Chinese Wedding, her White wedding is in a few days' time. At that time, we will all attend together as a family".
The three people looked at her in shock.
"No way!" Old Master Chen said in a heavy voice.
"Why?" Old Lady Chen asked in surprise before glancing at her son and daughter.
"You still don't know the situation? Have you forgotten about how our son and granddaughter's relationship is? Do you want to cause trouble?" Old Master Chen asked in a strained tone.
Old Lady Chen didn't dare to mention anything about the wedding anymore as realization dawned on her.
Old Master Chen snorted before turning to warn his son, "You have to be careful not to be seen by the press or anyone who would rant about your identity. You need to remain low key till after Lihua's wedding, then we can announce your return".
Chen K nodded positively in awareness, for he understood the situation reasonably.
Old Lady Chen suddenly became lightheaded after she had physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted herself. Prompting Aunt Lin to call the servants to carry her into one of the rooms so she could have a good rest.
