Hearing her son's voice which she hadn't heard for the past few days, the old lady became more emotional as she cried on while explaining the situation to him.
"Alright mother, stop crying. I will be there before you know it," he consoled his mother before preparing to rush down to the hospital.
If it were any other day, he would have neither listened to his mother, not believed her, because he knew her too well.
She was capable of coming up with tons of excuses, just to get what she wants.
But from his mother's voice, he could tell that there was sincerity in it. So he has to hurry down to the hospital.
At the very least, the person that was being hospitalized is his son. So if it's for anything, it was because he is his own flesh and blood, and he truly cared about him.
"Mother, what did he say?" the woman asked her mother-in-law a little enthusiastically.
"He is on his way," the old lady answered as she wiped her tears.
"Nurse, what next, when will we be allowed to see my grandson?" the old lady asked the nurse that was currently pressing cotton wool to stop the blood from oozing out of her arm.
"After the surgery is over, you can all see him," the nurse replied kindly.
So the two women, both old and young, sat down on the corridor, waiting for the result of their blood test to come out.
Within minutes, the doctor they met earlier, and the nurse that drew out their blood walked towards them.
"Doctor, how is my grandson?" the old lady asked while standing to her feet.
"Doctor, how is my son?" the woman asked, getting to her feet as well.
"He is losing a lot of blood, so we have to hurry up with the blood transfusion immediately," the doctor replied.
"Then what is keeping you waiting, hurry up and save my son! We have drawn our blood for the test," the woman said in a hurry, as the tears came rolling down her cheeks once again.
"We are doing our best ma'am. But the problem lies with the blood test," The doctor said, leaving them in suspense.
"What about the blood test?" the old lady asked in a panic. She was getting really worried about her grandson.
"Am sorry to say this, but none of the blood samples matched," the doctor replied with a serious expression on his face.
"What did you just say, none of the blood samples matched?!" the woman asked in a harsh tone, with a shocked filled face.
"Ah! Then what do we do?" the old lady asked in a panic.
"If there is any other family member, please hurry up and call them here while we try to find the patient's blood match here," the doctor said.
"But why is difficult to find his blood match, we are his family members too," the old lady asked worriedly.
"That's because he has a rare blood group, O Rhesus negative. Ma'am, you can please call up any other child of yours, or your husband since your blood group didn't match with your son, definitely, his will match. And please do that quickly, we don't have a lot of time on our side," the doctor reminded them.
"I've already called my son, he will be here in a minute, please hold on," the old lady pleaded with the doctor as a tear dropped from her eye.
"Mother, do you know my husband's blood group?" the woman asked with a fearful look on her face.
"I can't remember that at all. Don't worry, his blood group will surely match with his son since yours didn't. After all, they are father and son," the old lady answered as she sat back down and patted her daughter-in-law's hands, with her eyes focused on the doctor and nurse that we're talking by the side.
The woman's heart skipped a bit. It was at this juncture that something dawned on her. But she hurriedly stopped thinking about, as she refused to dwell on the 'What ifs' she just didn't want her thoughts to go right there.
Just as the woman was lost in thoughts, her husband arrived at the hospital and walked towards them in quick steps.
"Mother, what happened? Where is my son?" the man asked in a worried tone as soon as he came to his mother's side.
"Son, you are here? No more questions, there are more important matters to attend to. We need your blood sample to check if your son's blood group matches with yours. Your son needs blood for transfusion. Your wife and I have done the test, but it didn't match," the old explained while rising to her feet.
The woman also rose to her feet when she saw her husband, so she became more emotional and cried harder, hoping to get her husband's sympathy and for him to console her, but none of that happened, as it was just her wishful thinking.
The man she wished to get these love and concern from, hadn't even looked her way, talk more of looking into her eyes.
She was just daydreaming.
"Ok, a mother that is not a problem, our blood group will definitely match. Where is the doctor, so that I can get my blood tested?" the man asked in all seriousness, while at the same time, consoling his mother.
"The doctor went that way with the nurse," the old lady answered as she wiped her tears while pointing towards the direction the doctor and the nurse walked off to.
The man followed the direction his mother was pointing at and saw the doctor and the nurse walking away, so he hurriedly went after them.
The old lady and her daughter-in-law sat back down on the chair.
"Don't worry, he is here, and everything will be alright," the old lady said as she consoled her daughter-in-law.
The woman wiped her tears as she asked worriedly, "mother, my husband didn't even look at my face just now. Am sure he didn't even notice my existence, it seems like he is still adamant about us getting a divorce. Mother, what should I do?"
