Chapter 533 HE STILL LOVED HER
Knox couldn't believe this, he wouldn't have believed it if he didn't see it with his own eyes. He had a daughter. A daughter that looked exactly like him. This was the child that July wanted, something that she really desired, but he couldn't give.
However, she managed to get pregnant and now the little girl had the same fate as Knox. She couldn't live.
Knox's purpose in this life was to help Chaos gather all of his shattered souls and then disappear from this realm. He had lived long enough, until the beauty of all the things in this world faded in his eyes, there was nothing that could excite him anymore, there was nothing that could make him want to do something, or feel desire for someone, until he met July and everything around him began to have a meaning.
However, that didn't eradicate the fact that she was a human and as a human, she wouldn't live forever. She would die eventually and Knox was ready to die with her.
He would take care of her, until she grew old and couldn't do anything, because that was the cycle of human life. He accepted that.
Yet, despite that initial plan, nothing had gone as he wished and here he was, hugging his own flesh and blood.
"Put me down!" Rhea was struggling to get out of Knox's grip, but he only tightened it. There was no way in hell that he would let his own daughter go straight into the arms of the devil.
But, because of this commotion, someone came out of the house that was not too far from where they were standing, calling Rhea's name.
"Rhea, where are you?!" There was panic in her voice, but that same exact voice made Knox's heart skip a beat. n-)o./v-)e((1).b/)I.-n
It had been six years since the last time he saw her and heard her voice. It had been six fucking years where he lived in agony, trying his hardest to forget her touch and give up every desire to run to her and beg her to take him back.
Knox succeeded to shoot down any desire for doing such a thing, but right now, the woman was the one, who was running toward him to check on their daughter, whether she was fine or not, since Rhea was crying right now.
"Rhea, where..." July stopped in her steps abruptly. She covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming in surprise, she gasped loudly to see Knox with their daughter.
Rhea was right in his arms.
There was a mix of emotions in her eyes. She was stunned into silence, not knowing what to do, until Rhea's cries finally reached her ears and pulled her forcefully from her reverie.
"Mama...! Mama!" Rhea flapped her limbs in Knox's grip, as she tried to get away from him, which made July think Knox was here to get her daughter and give her to Chaos. Let that monster take her soul.
"Knox, please... don't do that..." July fell to her knees. She couldn't fight him. No matter how strong she was, even if she had a gun with her, she would never stand a chance fighting him or taking Rhea back if Knox had decided to take her away. "Don't take her... I will live in silence, I will not appear before you and I will live as if I am dead, so please... don't take my baby away."
Knox stared at July, his eyes darkened, as his jaw hardened with this misunderstanding and when he glanced at Aaron, he saw a triumphant smile curled on the corners of his lips.
His woman misunderstood him, his daughter was scared of him and both of them relied on his enemy for protection. How could this situation go so wrong?
"Knox, please... don't do this to our daughter..." July pleaded with him, but when she saw how desperate Rhea was to reach her, while Knox didn't budge, as he held her so tight, it made her panic and turn her attention toward Aaron. "Save my daughter, please... save my daughter..."
This was the first time for them to meet with each other after six years and the first thing that July did was begging him not to hurt their daughter, but then she turned to his enemy, asking for his help instead.
Knox didn't know what was going on with his life right now. Nothing seemed right.
What did he actually get himself into?
His mind went spiraling to see how July begged Aaron for help and everything came crashing down on him right at that moment.
"You asked for his help." Knox shook his head and then all of a sudden Rhea stopped struggling and went limp in his arms. She lost her consciousness, which made July freak out. She stood up hastily and was about to rush toward her daughter, but then Knox spoke icily, which made her stop dead in her tracks. "You asked for the devil's help."
July fell silent. She looked at her little girl intensely. The girl didn't die. She was still alive, she could see how she was breathing regularly and how her small chest moved up and down in a peaceful rhythm.
July should have known that Knox wouldn't kill Rhea because they needed her alive. They couldn't kill her and it was only Chaos that could take his soul back from Rhea.
She knew about all of that, but seeing how her daughter lost her consciousness just like that in the hands of her own father, July couldn't help but feel panicked.
"I..." she stuttered, trying to find the right words to explain herself. "You didn't give any reaction... I thought... I thought you would kill our daughter."
If there was a little bit of love that Knox had for her, she would be so willing to trade it with her daughter's life. Knox could hate her and kill her if he wanted, but she only wanted her daughter to have a normal life.
However, when she decided to have Knox's baby, she should have known that there was nothing normal about the baby. She conceived a supernatural creature's baby, thus there wouldn't be anything normal about it.
"Do you know that you asked the devil for his favor?" Knox had told her about having a deal with the devil, but right now she was trying to do it right in front of him, which made him realize something.
"I thought you would kill our baby..." July tried to explain herself, but Knox cut her off icily.
"You have a deal with the devil even before this, haven't you?" Knox narrowed his eyes, he stared deeply into July's eyes, which made him know immediately that his guess was right. "You made a deal with the devil, even after all the warnings that I gave to you." That was not a question, but a statement.
Because there was no way July could get pregnant all by herself. She wouldn't be able to conceive if it was not for the devil's intervention.
"You fell pregnant because of the devil." There was an accusation in his voice when Knox said that. He stared straight into July's eyes.
This was a betrayal.
On the other hand, July fell silent, she blanched and tried to avoid Knox's eyes. Her whole body was trembling and she felt his eyes would bore a hole in her head.
"July, answer me." Knox had never thought that their first meeting would be like this. Six years, they had been apart for six years and he had never known that he had become a father.
The little girl stayed limp in his arms, her body was so warm and soft, she was so fragile and small, but she was enough to make Knox's life turn upside down.
"Knox, please... don't take her away from me..." July pleaded with Knox again, she took tentative steps toward Knox, her eyes fell on her unconscious daughter and her heart was undeniably hurt. She couldn't imagine what would happen to her if they took her daughter away. "Don't do this to our daughter. If you are angry with me, kill me. I will gladly accept that, but please don't hurt her. She is our daughter."
July knew Knox, but even so, she was still unsure whether or not Knox would do it. He took his responsibility seriously.
"Please... Knox... she is our daughter." July always imagined how beautiful it was to have Knox as her daughter's father.
Even though it was almost impossible, July imagined that Knox would regret his decision to be so stubborn about not having his own child, albeit July wouldn't dare to bet on it, but imagining wouldn't harm anyone.
And yet, here they were, July was scared to death to see Knox with Rhea.
"How could you do that to me?" Knox narrowed his eyes, he felt the betrayal for what July had done.
"Give me back my daughter, Knox." July took another step closer and now they were only two steps apart, the closest distance between them after these six years, but then, it was their hearts that were growing apart. "I will live with her as if we are dead. You can forget about us."
That was impossible to happen, because...
"You know that will never happen, she is Chaos's shattered soul." Knox felt his heart shatter to see the pain in her eyes.
Even after all this time, he still loved her, just like the moment they met for the first time more than twenty years ago.
