C1 – A Drop of Divine Blood
“Lan Xiaodie, you scored 150 points,” a middle-aged woman with black-framed glasses handed over the math test paper to the cheerful and beautiful girl.
Lan Xiaodie accepted the test paper with both hands.
“You must keep working hard,” Hsu Lee said while looking at Lan Xiaodie.
Hsu Lee had a strong fondness for Lan Xiaodie. She was intelligent, beautiful, and well-mannered—qualities not often found in young girls these days.
As Hsu Lee glanced at the score on the next test paper, her expression immediately turned grim.
“Ye Hao, your score is 38 points.”
All the students present immediately burst into laughter.
“Ye Hao only got 38 points.”
“Ye Hao is really a weirdo.”
“This time, Ye Hao will probably be the last in the Key Class again.”
“Is there any suspense about this?”
Amidst the students’ mockery, a red-faced young man approached Hsu Lee with a nervous expression.
Hsu Lee glared at Ye Hao and snatched the exam paper from him, tapping it against his face.
“Take the exam paper and stand by the door.”
Just as Ye Hao was reaching for the exam paper, Hsu Lee casually tossed it away.
Ye Hao had no choice but to squat down, pick up the exam paper, and quietly walk out of the classroom.
Standing by the wall, Ye Hao appeared visibly dejected.
Youth of this age always carried a sense of pride.
At that moment, Hsu Lee’s voice echoed, “Everyone performed admirably this time. If it weren’t for Ye Hao dragging down our class’s average score, Key Class 2 might have had a chance to surpass Class 1.”
Ye Hao suddenly felt a sharp pang in his chest.
Hsu Lee’s words were like a thorn stabbing into his heart.
He staggered towards the school’s small pond.
Standing before the small pond, Ye Hao found it hard to calm down. His fists clenched tightly, and he had an urge to shout.
But he didn’t dare.
He was worried that his shout would attract the attention of the school’s security team.
Ye Hao felt aggrieved for no reason.
Ye Hao’s father had put in a lot of effort to send him to the Key Class in the hope that he would be able to get into a university. However, Ye Hao did not have the talent, so he was repeatedly mocked by his classmates.
“What are you doing?” the middle-aged man scolded.
“Didn’t you tell me to drink this drop of blood?” Ye Hao exclaimed, his face covered in shock.
With a flick of his finger, the middle-aged man separated the drop of blood from his finger.
Ye Hao gazed at the blood drop floating in the air and realized his foolishness.
Swiftly, he opened his mouth and swallowed the drop of blood.
As soon as the blood entered Ye Hao’s body, he felt an intense warmth spreading throughout him.
“What’s going on?” Ye Hao asked.
“The divine blood is gradually transforming your body. However, in the initial stages, you may experience pain for a while,” the middle-aged man explained before quietly vanishing.
Ye Hao was no longer concerned about the man’s departure, as the pain had become unbearable, leading him to lose consciousness.
Ye Hao couldn’t recall how many times he had fainted due to the pain.
He only had a vague recollection of being taken to the hospital, but what occurred afterward remained a blur.
“Zhiguo, Hao’s doctor has been pressuring us to pay for his medical expenses these past few days,” Guo Xiu sighed as she gazed at the middle-aged man who had brought food.
The middle-aged man bore a resemblance to Ye Hao. After hesitating for a moment, he replied, “I’ll go to the Zhou family and ask for a loan.”
“We already borrowed fifty thousand yuan from the Zhou family. We can’t ask for more money from them,” Guo Xiu said, looking at Ye Zhiguo. “Doesn’t our father have a lot of money?”
Ye Zhiguo smiled bitterly, “If I could borrow money from him, I would have done so a long time ago.”
“Hao is his own grandson. Do you think he’d just watch him die?” Guo Xiu’s anger flared up.
Ye Zhiguo fell silent.
Witnessing her husband’s expression, Guo Xiu couldn’t help but burst into tears.
Her tears didn’t stem from her husband’s incompetence, but rather from the anguish of a mother unable to save her son.
If they couldn’t pay Ye Hao’s medical expenses soon, he wouldn’t be able to continue staying in the hospital.
“Don’t cry. Take good care of Hao. I’ll find a way to handle the money,” Ye Zhiguo assured before turning away and leaving.
Guo Xiu continued to cry in despair.
Originally, Ye Hao’s family had been quite well-off.
However, after six months in the ICU, the staggering medical expenses completely depleted the once-affluent family’s resources.
Guo Xiu and Ye Zhiguo had borrowed a significant amount of money from friends and relatives over the past few days.
Still, Ye Hao showed no signs of waking up.
Unaware that two tears silently slid down the corners of Ye Hao’s eyes, Guo Xiu wept in sorrow.
Though incapacitated, Ye Hao overheard his parents’ conversation clearly.
He couldn’t wake up yet due to his ongoing body transformation, but thankfully, the process was nearing its completion.
