Chapter 86 - Unforgettable Memory
“How could that be?” Wang Hao feigned a look of utter disbelief.
“Come on, cut it out,” Ye Hao interjected, “It's common knowledge. There's no need for you to act like you've been duped.”
Wang Hao was mortified.
“Miss Leng, this meal is on me,” Ye Hao offered, turning to Leng Xue with a smile.
“Well, I won't hold back then,” Leng Xue responded, proceeding to order two more dishes.
Wang Hao squirmed uncomfortably in his seat.
Yet, if he left at this moment, any chance of a relationship with Leng Xue would be lost.
So, Wang Hao had no choice but to stay put.
“Ye Hao, when do you plan on going back to school?”
“Tomorrow.”
“You know, if you keep skipping classes, you might fail.”
Ye Hao shook his head gently, “Not going to happen.”
“That confident, huh?”
“I never forget what I read.”
“Is that so?” Leng Xue gave Ye Hao a skeptical glance.
“I've memorized all four volumes of the Encyclopedia of Herbs,” Ye Hao claimed, grinning.
“Don't be ridiculous.” The Encyclopedia of Herbs was notoriously difficult to commit to memory.
Even Leng Xue, with her years of teaching experience, wouldn't claim to have memorized all four volumes.
“Why don't you quiz me then?”
“Fine, tell me about the effects of herbaceous peony.”
After a brief pause, Ye Hao replied, “Herbaceous peony can treat a variety of symptoms, such as abdominal pain, bone pain, swelling from beriberi, thirst, unstoppable nosebleeds, coughing up blood, continuous menstrual bleeding, persistent leukorrhea, cuts, swollen tongue, and throat obstructions.”
“And if a patient is suffering from bleeding in the lower abdomen, how would a doctor treat it?”
“Take one or two taels of herbaceous peony and six taels of cypress leaves, lightly fry them, then add a liter of water and boil it down to make a medicine. Alternatively, grind the two aforementioned herbs into a fine powder and drink it twice daily.”
Surprise flickered in Leng Xue's eyes before she asked another question, “What are the other names for licorice?”
“Sweet grass, Ural licorice, and sweet root.”
“And how would you prepare Ligusticum wallichii as a medicine?”
“First, remove any dirt and sand, then sun-dry and roast it until dry, and finally remove the fine roots.”
“Which patients should avoid taking herbaceous peony?”
“Those who are frail and anemic should avoid it. Pregnant women should use it with caution.”
The bank card Tang Pianpian gave to Ye Hao had a million yuan in it.
The dinner had cost 610,000 yuan.
To Ye Hao, it was no big deal.
After all, money was meant to be spent.
Of the two bottles of red wine, only one was opened; Tang Pianpian took the other home.
“Miss Leng, where are you headed?” Ye Hao inquired, much to Wang Hao's chagrin, who thought he should be the one to ask.
“I have two movie tickets,” Wang Hao started, but Leng Xue turned to Ye Hao and asked, “Where are you going?”
“I'm off to Emerald Garden.”
“Why would you go to Emerald Garden so late at night?”
“That's none of your concern.”
“No, as your teacher, I'm responsible for your safety,” Leng Xue insisted with feigned concern.
“How about you join me?” Ye Hao suggested, picking up on the subtext of Leng Xue's words.
She was intentionally clinging to him, likely to escape Wang Hao's company.
“Let's go,” Leng Xue agreed, then turned to Wang Hao and apologized, “I'm sorry, but I need to make a trip to Emerald Garden.”
Emerald Garden was just a small grove. What could they possibly do there?
Wang Hao, concerned, quickly interjected, “Emerald Garden isn't safe at night. I'll accompany you.”
“No need.”
“I'm not busy anyway.” Wang Hao was determined to win over Leng Xue, which meant he couldn't allow Ye Hao and Leng Xue any time alone.
But once they stepped outside, Wang Hao realized he might have been overthinking things.
Ye Hao had gotten into Tang Pianpian's BMW MINI.
This meant that Ye Hao was heading to Emerald Garden with Tang Pianpian.
However, since Wang Hao had resolved to follow them, there was no way he would back down now.
Leng Xue had turned down Wang Hao's offer and chose to ride with Tang Pianpian instead.
“Pianpian, when did you get this car?”
“I just bought it.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Leng Xue's eyes.
She had taken an interest in Tang Pianpian before.
Leng Xue recalled that Tang Pianpian came from a modest background, one that wouldn't typically afford such a car.
Could it be that Tang Pianpian was being supported by Ye Hao?
With this thought, Leng Xue's gaze shifted to Ye Hao.
