Chapter 124 - Pianpian

Ye Zhiguo's mind had certainly become sharper.

Previously, he might not have come to such a realization.

As Ye Zhiguo was about to speak, a car pulled up to the curb. To his astonishment, he saw Ye Hao, Guo Xiu, and a strikingly beautiful woman step out.

“Who is she?” Ye Zhiguo inquired, though he already had his suspicions.

Tang Pianpian was walking close to Ye Hao.

Unless they were a couple, why would they be so close?

“Ye Hao's girlfriend,” Guo Xiu interjected before Ye Hao had a chance to introduce her.

Tang Pianpian blushed at the mention.

“Hello, Uncle,” she greeted Ye Zhiguo in a gentle voice.

“Don't mention it,” replied Ye Zhiguo, somewhat awkwardly.

Tang Pianpian's beauty had taken him by surprise.

He had never imagined Ye Hao would have such a stunning girlfriend.

Ye Zhimin and Xu Wenming exchanged glances, envy apparent in their eyes.

How had Ye Hao captured the heart of such a beautiful woman?

“How is the Master doing?” Ye Hao inquired.

“He's still in a coma,” Ye Zhiguo sighed. “The doctor warned that if he doesn't wake up within 24 hours, he could slip into a vegetative state.”

“Is he in the ICU?” Ye Hao pressed.

“Pianpian, go ahead. You have your professional physician's license, if I recall correctly.”

“Hao, what are you suggesting?” Ye Zhiguo asked, taken aback.

“Pianpian is an exceptional healer. She can revive the Master,” Ye Hao explained softly.

“Are you certain?”

“We're students at Riverdale College.”

“Very well.”

The family made their way to the ICU.

Initially, the nurse on duty was reluctant to allow them entry, but after Tang Pianpian presented her professional physician's certificate, the nurse begrudgingly let her through.

Tang Pianpian channeled a thread of vital spirit into Ye Dongzhi's body and, within moments, he stirred back to consciousness.

Just then, a duty nurse handed a medical bill to Ye Zhiguo, “You're Ye Dongzhi's relative, correct?”

“Yes, I am.”

“Please proceed with the payment.”

Ye Zhiguo was taken aback, wondering, “Why am I being asked to pay the bill?”

Guo Xiu abruptly rose to her feet, declaring, “We shouldn't be the ones to pay this fee, should we?”

“Sister-in-law, what are you saying?” Xu Wenming's face clouded over with displeasure as she asked, “Why shouldn't my Second Brother pay the fee?”

“Ye Zhiguo, don't forget the incident at our last dinner.” Guo Xiu's voice was icy. “I understand you want to visit your father, but if you even think about contributing a penny, I'll divorce you.”

Ye Zhiguo was taken aback.

Throughout their tumultuous years together, Guo Xiu had never once mentioned divorce, no matter how heated their arguments became. Yet now, she spoke of it with a gravity that Ye Zhiguo had not anticipated.

“Sister-in-law, you're being unreasonable,” Ye Zhimin said sternly.

Tears welling in her eyes, Guo Xiu retorted, “When Hao was in the ICU needing money, what were you doing? What was your father doing? Did either of you contribute anything?”

“If you can disregard my son's life and death, then why should I care about yours?”

Ye Zhiguo stood there, stunned.

Memories of the Master and Ye Zhimin flooded his thoughts. The more he dwelled on it, the more he realized the indignity of his own actions.

He thought to himself, “If the Master has never been concerned with mine or Ye Hao's well-being, why should I grovel for such meager familial affection?”

“Let's go home,” Ye Zhiguo said to Guo Xiu, his tone earnest.

“Pianpian has saved the Master's life. As of now, we owe nothing more to each other.” With that, Ye Zhiguo strode off.

“Ye Zhiguo,” Ye Zhimin called out, surprised by his brother's abrupt departure. He yelled after the retreating figure, “If you refuse to pay the medical bills, be prepared for a court summons.”

A smile crept onto Ye Zhiguo's face.

He had finally grasped Ye Zhimin's earlier display of goodwill—it was all to coax him into settling the medical expenses.

Once back at home, Ye Zhiguo and Guo Xiu slowly found their equilibrium.

But then, another issue arose.

The house had just two rooms, which raised the question: where would Tang Pianpian stay?

“Pianpian, would you like to share the bed with me?” Guo Xiu asked gently.

“There's no need for that. We can share the bed,” Ye Hao interjected.

Guo Xiu, noticing that Tang Pianpian didn't object, dropped the subject.

Tang Pianpian took a seat on Ye Hao's bed and suddenly seemed bashful.

“What's the matter?” Ye Hao, hanging his jacket on the rack, inquired with a smile.
