C176 – Ghost Child

The Ghost Child, as the term implies, was once a living child.

Yet, he bore no resemblance to a Ghost Child.

“To become a Ghost Child, not only must you have been a virtuous person for three lifetimes, but you also need to have died at the ages of three, six, and nine,” Xiao Ming explained, pointing at the youth. “This boy met his end under the wheels of a sedan at nine. For the past three years, he’s been adrift in the mortal realm.”

“He’s likely committed many sins, though,” Ye Hao observed, scrutinizing the youth.

“Maybe that’s just their destiny,” Xiao Ming mused.

“Who are you trying to fool?” Ye Hao shot Xiao Ming a skeptical look. “I can scatter his soul to the winds right now.”

“I believe this kid is nothing but trouble,” Ye Hao declared earnestly.

“The Ghost Child will be purified after undergoing the magic arts of the Keepers of Forbidden Lore. Any lingering resentment will vanish,” Xiao Ming reassured with a smile. “You needn’t worry about that.”

“However, the resentment within this Ghost Child is overwhelming. Help me subdue him.”

Ye Hao’s Divine Sense emanated forth, forcefully subduing the Ghost Child in the midst of the arena.

A look of terror flashed in the Ghost Child’s eyes as he gazed at Ye Hao.

Clearly, he recognized the formidable power of the Divine Sense.

Xiao Ming watched as the rune paper before him spontaneously combusted. It transformed into a sacred, divine golden light.

Enshrouded in this light, the Ghost Child let out a harrowing scream.

Simultaneously, the resentment that clung to him began to fade rapidly.

Within two minutes, the Ghost Child was free of all resentment, and a holy light enveloped him.

As the final gleam of gold faded, a golden rune emerged on the Ghost Child’s forehead.

“Sparky greets the Archon,” the Ghost Child intoned, bowing before Xiao Ming.

With a gentle smile, Xiao Ming responded, “This is the Solacewood tablet I’ve prepared for you.”

Upon seeing the tablet in Xiao Ming’s hand, Sparky transformed into a shadow and merged with it.

“Solacewood,” Ye Hao remarked with a chuckle. “You do have a taste for luxury.”

“Sparky is crucial to my future aspirations for higher status. No matter the cost, I will not hesitate.”

“I want nothing,” Ye Hao replied with a smile. “I just wanted to greet you.”

With that, Ye Hao handed the phone to the captive young man, saying, “You can continue talking to your boss.”

Ye Hao then proceeded down the street toward the villa district.

He hadn’t gone far when he heard the sound of a young girl crying.

Glancing over, he noticed a girl with an attractive figure squatting on the ground, surrounded by seven or eight empty beer cans.

She was drinking and crying simultaneously, likely heartbroken.

As Ye Hao was about to walk away, he spotted two young men nearby eyeing the girl with ill intent.

After a brief contemplation, he approached the girl.

“Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”

Through her tears, the girl looked at Ye Hao and said, “Take me home? Are you just trying to sleep with me?”

Ye Hao furrowed his brow and responded, “I have no interest in sleeping with you.”

“Playing hard to get, are you?” she laughed bitterly. Her laughter soon turned back into tears as she pointed at Ye Hao and accused, “You men are all the same.”

“You’re drunk,” Ye Hao stated gently.

“I am not drunk,” she insisted, continuing to down her beer.

After chugging half a bottle, she attempted to pour more, only to find it empty and carelessly toss it aside.

She stumbled as she tried to pick up another bottle from the ground, only to realize they were all empty.

“If you buy me a drink, I’ll stay with you all night,” she slurred, burping and swaying as she looked at Ye Hao.

Ye Hao simply shook his head and said, “You’re drunk.”

The girl sneered at him, “You’re so cheap. You want to sleep with me but don’t want to pay.”

“If you’re so fond of drinking, I’ll take you for a drink,” Ye Hao offered, as he gently took the girl by the arm.

“Don’t help me,” the young girl said, shrugging off Ye Hao’s assistance as she staggered toward the bar.
