“Dr. Brown, do you really think our experiment, Angel, can handle him?”
Kyle Odysseus sat in the warm control room, shielded from psychic interference, his legs icy cold, spreading a chill up his arms. Faced with a psychic monster whom even the empire couldn’t handle and who shared a blood connection with him, Kyle felt the curses that had befallen the Odysseus royal family were proving true.
The founding history of Odysseus, enshrined in dust, did not match the glorious and magnificent image portrayed in the history books. They had driven away the Federation and the Zerg, expanding the vast territories of the Odysseus Empire.
In reality, the first king of the Odysseus Empire was nothing more than a treacherous betrayer, with a mouth full of lies, untrustworthy, and a heart as ruthless as a wolf’s. He would betray even his allies after using them.
The true masters of this land, the Odysseus Empire, the Federation, and the Zerg, were originally a group of Omegas who possessed the power of the gods, now known as psychic power.
Psychic power was often awakened only by higher-level Omegas, who became the ancient children of the gods and occupied the top rank of society, controlling other races as psychic slaves, including the highly esteemed Alphas, ordinary betas, and even the Zerg.
The ancient Alphas were akin to the peaks of a beehive, and superior Alphas bred superior offspring for higher-level Omegas.
Betas had been producers since ancient times, diligently working for the collective.
The Zerg were kept as pets by the Omegas. Under psychic control, one Omega could command a dozen or so Zerg, while the legendary Omega ancestors could control thousands of Zerg in battle.
Due to the handsome and strong appearance of the Alpha members of the ancient Odysseus family, their descendants were mostly high-level Omegas. Thus, they were highly favored among the slave population ruled by the Omega elite.
However, the Odysseus family later used sinister means, colluding with other slaves unwilling to submit to Omega rule, and slaughtered the unsuspecting Omega population.
The history books vaguely mentioned the methods used by the Odysseus family.
In the ancient times when there were no advanced technological weapons, psychic power was the most powerful force. In people’s understanding at the time, only psychics could confront other psychics.
The Odysseus family secretly collected Omega infants and began to tame them. These Omega infants were mostly connected by bloodline to the Odysseus family, possibly their own children, nephews, nieces, siblings, or even uncles.
During ancient times, medical capabilities were limited, and the mortality rate of infants was relatively high. Typically, infants did not differentiate into Omegas, Alphas, or Betas at birth, there was a period of youth and development.
Whenever these children showed signs of Omega differentiation, the Odysseus family would falsely claim to the Omega parent that the child had died, but in reality, they would bring them to a hidden location within the family for brainwashing and conditioning, turning them into secret weapons to counter the Omega population in the future.
These Omega children were mostly mute and incapable of independent thought, docile like domesticated livestock. After using them to counter the Omega ruling class, the Odysseus family and those who conspired against them feared that these Omegas would turn their psychic powers against them, so they disposed of them.
The Odysseus family established a new empire, and the allies who wanted to share the empire’s power with him were rewarded with noble titles according to their merits, becoming the aristocracy. However, a group of people who opposed the rule of the Odysseus family were driven out of the empire’s territory and began wandering, gradually forming a nation known as the Federation.
The number of Omegas became increasingly scarce, resulting in a decreasing number of Alphas.
The group of Alphas who were privy to the insider information began to breed and raise Omegas, cultivating them to appear harmless, meek, and weak.
However, S-Class Omegas naturally awakened psychic power. Whenever an S-Class Omega was detected, the empire’s hidden organizations would take them away, announcing their deaths to the outside world. In reality, they were kept as experimental subjects, studying the use of psychic power and how to bestow it upon Alphas.
This was the dark secret the Odysseus Empire concealed.
Kyle’ face grew ominously gloomy.
The ancient Omegas cursed the Odysseus family with their dying breath, proclaiming that betrayers would be tainted by the blood of guilt and descend into a mad death. It seemed as though their curse had come true.
Members of the Odysseus family who carried the bloodline, especially those directly related to the royal lineage, suffered from mental issues, perishing one by one in the grip of mental illnesses. The previous king, who happened to be his grandfather and blood relative, was tormented by bipolar disorder and met his end in an accident. His uncle, Prince Bohnert, also suffered a breakdown during a mental treatment, injuring medical staff and fleeing the main planet, his whereabouts still unknown.
Due to these circumstances, members of the royal family, unless necessary, refrained from exposing themselves to the gaze of the imperial media and the public. They feared that the empire’s citizens would discover that their king, prince, and princess were a group of mentally unstable lunatics. And now, there was someone even crazier in front of him.
Kyle caught a glimpse of Si Huaixi’s figure in his eyes. The psychological shadow, wrapped in fear, triggered an involuntary response in him. His fingers scraped against the intact skin on his arm until blood splashed forth, as if the pain could soothe his unease.
“Dr. Brown, why haven’t you awakened the test subject, Angel, yet?! If it takes too long, we’re done for if he finds us here!”
“No need to rush. I plan to release other test subjects to collect his data,” Dr. Brown calmly replied.
Kyle wanted to voice his opposition, fearing that prolonging the situation would lead to complications. Si Huaixi was not someone easily dealt with. However, the present Kyle was no longer the dignified second prince of the empire, and Dr. Brown would not heed his words. It was only because of Kyle’s interest in Si Huaixi, a unique psychic, that he agreed to secretly scheme with him.
Escaping this time, Kyle refused to spend his entire life hiding in exile, enduring suffering. But he also feared that if the faked death were discovered, Si Huaixi would personally kill him. Princess Katie also had the same concerns, but she found a solution— the test subject named Angel.
This grand spacecraft was named Angelina, after the test subject herself. To avoid suspicion, the Odysseus royal family purchased the ship under the guise of the Grand Duke Basalom. The Angelina Cruise ship traveled through space for extended periods, collecting more materials for experimentation.
The idea of a slave trading post was proposed by Grand Duke Basalom, serving as a means for the Odysseus royal family to handle certain unsavory matters. Meanwhile, he treated Angelina as his hunting ground for amusement, secretly purchasing prohibited drugs through the Bai family’s channels and causing the deaths of at least a dozen commoners and slaves.
Originally, Bai Huaiyu was supposed to meet with this sadistic Grand Duke Basalom due to the Bai family’s demands, but after the hijacking incident, Bai Huaiyu unexpectedly received favor from Prince Kyle, the second prince.
The Bai family would never miss such an opportunity. If Bai Huaiyu could become the second prince’s consort, the Bai family would ascend to great heights. Thus, the matter of meeting Grand Duke Basalom was quietly abandoned.
Among them, the most crucial test subject, codenamed Angel, had already lived for 427 years, frozen in time since her capture as a young girl. Angel was an everlasting Sleeping Beauty, stimulated by electricity to release a special psychic power referred to by researchers as ‘Heaven.’
When Angel was stimulated by electric current, she would emit a unique spiritual power, providing eternal tranquility to people’s souls—free from pain, burdens, and all sorrowful emotions. It allowed individuals to immerse themselves in a realm of ease and joy, gradually forgetting everything from the past, as if their souls were cleansed and transported to paradise.
Once upon a time, researchers who had personally tested Angel’s abilities claimed that they experienced hallucinations, entering a beautiful place that resembled heaven, free from worries and troubles. In this paradise, they encountered a pure and kind-hearted girl who resembled Angel herself. This girl invited them to stay there forever, away from all sorrows and anguish.
However, when the experiments came to an end, other researchers discovered a disturbing finding. The longer they stayed in Angel’s ‘paradise,’ the more their human memories began to fade away. When the researcher who had personally experienced Angel’s abilities finally regained consciousness, he realized that he had forgotten most of his painful memories, including the passing of his mother several years ago.
At first glance, having only joyful memories seemed desirable. However, the truth was that the longer one stayed in the paradise, they would lose all human memories, leaving behind a blank slate without any recollections of pain or sadness.
The Odysseus Royal Family recognized the potential of this ability. They utilized Angel’s ‘paradise’ to erase the memories of other test subjects. With their memories wiped clean, these subjects obediently followed commands and became participants in various psychic experiments.
Not only that, but the Odysseus Royal Family also exploited this ability to create a group of deadly soldiers. Many of these soldiers were captured enemies, outlaws, and star bandits. Though they had lost their memories, with some training, they transformed into qualified soldiers who possessed natural combat instincts, undying loyalty, and unwavering obedience.
Similarly, Kyle saw the value in Angel’s ability and hoped to erase Si Huaixi’s memories. By doing so, he believed Si Huaixi would no longer harbor thoughts of killing him to avenge Pei Zhaozhou. As for the idea of taking advantage of this opportunity to eliminate Si Huaixi once and for all, Kyle neither wanted nor dared to do so, fearing the resurgence of this monster.
Hence, when Dr. Brown suggested using other psychic individuals to test Si Huaixi’s abilities, Kyle boldly disagreed. He simply wanted Angel, the test subject, to be released quickly. He wanted Si Huaixi’s memories associated with him to be destroyed, freeing himself from the constant fear of being hunted down and killed by Si Huaixi.
Regardless of whether Kyle agreed or not, Dr. Brown possessed the authority to control all the test subjects.
At that moment, Si Huaixi shattered the glass container, rescuing Irin, who had been trapped inside for a prolonged period. Due to her prolonged isolation, Irin struggled to regain full control of her body. Closing her eyes, she could still feel the residue of the container’s liquid in her nasal cavity. After some time, her breathing rhythm became smooth again, and her lungs were filled with the long-lost sensation of oxygen.
Overwhelmed with excitement, Irin’s emotions nearly brought her to tears. Once again, she experienced the vibrant vitality of being alive. Si Huaixi placed Irin aside and patiently waited for her body to adjust.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man’s voice resonated from above the ceiling. “It’s pointless. The test subject you saved is a brain-dead reject. Releasing her is akin to sending her to her death.” Dr. Brown, engrossed in his monitoring, failed to notice Irin’s previous awakening and arrogantly believed that Si Huaixi’s efforts were in vain. He eagerly anticipated the upcoming experiment.
“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Dr. Brown, specializing in psychic research. I have watched your video hundreds of times and have never witnessed such a powerful psychic, especially one who is physically disabled due to the absence of glands. I suspect some kind of mutation has occurred in your body…” Dr. Brown boasted, full of confidence in the precious test subjects he had meticulously cultivated.
There’s a ‘little’ surprise in the next chapter.
