Chapter 163: If Only You Knew

Chapter 163: If Only You Knew

Almost immediately after his duel with Alex, Chad was arrested yet again, with the additional charges of attempted murder, unlawful trespassing, and breaking and entering added to his ongoing trial. Why were these last two charges added? Because Alex testified that Chad had broken into his casino, while carrying the swords, and demanding a duel to the death with Alex.

As the actual owner of the Excalibur Casino, among many other casino/resorts. Alex’s word was practically as good as the law itself. He had even bribed the security of the casino to corroborate his story, and edit the security footage to show that Alex had not actually entered the Casino with the bag that was used to carry the swords.

Alex insisted that he was only defending himself with the only tool he had available to him. He made sure that the right officials were properly bribed so that the law considered this a valid act of self-defense. Especially since Chad was still alive, and had only suffered minor injuries.

Chad was now facing over 50 years in prison as a result of his crimes, and due to the fact that he immediately violated his bond by attempting to murder another person. He was now held without bond, and was likely not to receive parole when convicted.

This was a cause of celebration for Alex, who had successfully gotten rid of a main character, and his former childhood bully once and for all. And at least two of his women would sleep easier knowing that Chad was safely behind bars.

But if there was one person who was upset with this whole ordeal. It was none other than the man who had posted the one million dollar bond for Chad. Inside one of Vegas’ lesser known casinos, a man by the name of Victor Johnson sat at a craps table, while cursing underneath his breath. Not only had his attempt to murder Alex via proxy failed, but he was now losing money at his own casino.

Victor was Richard’s younger brother and was a bit of a casino mogul himself. He and Richard initially went into business together, before eventually parting ways, where Victor made his own company that owned a few of the smaller casinos outside of the infamous strip.

He was one of the members of Richard’s family who had attempted to swindle Diana and her daughters out of their rightful fortune. Next to Victor was a mature beauty. She was none other than his older sister, who was born in between himself and Richard. She had a far less intense expression on her face as she spoke about the little thorn in their side.

“A duel to the death? How quaint. Still, I would think the man would have had a better chance if he had chosen pistols rather than swords... But alas, we have bigger problems now... That boy has usen Richard’s wealth wisely, and has begun buying the loyalty of powerful figures not only in Vegas but on a national level. He’s using his mother to broker these alliances on his behalf. After all, she was Richard’s little ambassador while they were married.

Something needs to be done, and we can no longer trust the boy’s downfall in the hands of an amateur... I would suggest hiring a professional to get the job done...”

Despite the fact that the woman said this, her brother Victor did not seem to be convinced as he cursed loudly once more after losing another game of craps. He then turned to look at the woman and was quick to scold her for her foolishness.

“Nicole... Richard already tried that, and look where he ended up! That boy is more connected than we first thought... I don’t know what kind of madman he hired to pull that off, but if he can do that to our dearest brother, then imagine what he will do to us when he finds out that we are also trying to take care of him. No... I think we are better off digging up some dirt on the kid that will make him bend to our will...”

“I never thought Chad would go so far as to try to murder someone... Let alone you... You really opened my eyes Alex... Perhaps I knew all along that Chad was an asshole, but I just didn’t want to admit it... Urggh it makes me so mad!”

With a conceited smirk on his handsome face, Alex leaned back in his chair with an expression that said I told you so. This, of course, irritated Emily to no end as she quickly pointed her finger in Alex’s face and dared him to say the words.

“Don’t you dare say a thing! I know exactly what you’re thinking!”

Alex continued to wear a smug grin on his face as she playfully pretended like he had no idea what the girl was talking about.

“I have no idea what you are referring to... What could I possibly say in this moment of triumph?”

Emily was beyond flustered by Alex’s shamelessness as she immediately insulted the man for his words.

“You are such a prick!”

Yet Alex did not deny the charges, as he nodded his head in agreement with the girl’s words before expressing the sentiment.

“When have I ever claimed I was anything but? See, that’s the difference between me and Chad. I admit to who I am, and don’t put on any false pretenses. Meanwhile, Chad always tried to hide behind the façade that he was a saint, when in reality he was just as bad as me.”

Emily, however, disagreed with Alex on this point, particularly out of ignorance, as she complimented Alex by assuring him that he was better than Chad.

“No! Chad is worse than you! You may be an asshole, but you’re not a murderer. Sure you have killed before.... But that was in self-defense. And you clearly showed restraint with Chad despite the fact that he just tried to kill you! That is something that piece of shit is not capable of!”

Though Alex wore a smug grin on his face and nodded his head in agreement with Emily’s assessment. His true thoughts were far more sinister, as he spoke the words within his own mind that if Emily had heard them, would have caused her to shudder in fear.

“If only you knew...”
